Wol Ryung (Choi Jin Hyuk)

Wol Ryung, a gumiho, was living life quietly as a devine creature in a hidden area in Joseon. His quiet life was interrupted after falling

in love with a human, Kwon Soo-young. He protected and sincerely loved her, but was betrayed by her. He never told her he was a gumiho, why?

 Because he was in the midst of becomming a human. To become a human he'd have to not tell anyone of his identity, help people when they

needed it, and was not allowed to eat meat. When she found out she was surprised. She ended up telling people of his whereabouts, and he

was killed right before her eyes. One of the effects of not becomming a human after trying the 100-day process, is returning as a thousand

year demon. Wol Ryung, who was once a considerate devine creature, is now a cold-hearted killing machine. 

Lee Mi Do (Song Hye Kyo)

Lee Mi Do... A young, intelligent, beautiful girl. Never judge a book by its cover though, despite her beautiful face and righteous

up-bringing, Mi-Do is actually pretty tough. Growing up as the only child of the most powerful Military General, Lee Tae-Joon, Mi-Do was

taught to fight whenever she or someone else is wronged. Everyone in Gyeryong knows not to mess with this chick. Mi Do is known as

the most beautiful woman in Gyeryong, and the fiercest. Although she always has an "I don't give a " look on her face, she is very compassionate and shows her feminine and motherly side to only the people closest to her. She doesn't believe in love, and knows for a fact that she'd never want to be loved.

Young (Lee Min Ho)

Young is the best warrior in all of Joseon, he is admired by all women, and envied and feared by all men. Young has been a warrior since the young age of 13. Since he was abandoned by his parents he lived with Mi-Do and her family since then. When not at war, Tae-Joon, Mi-Do's father, assigned him to keep watch over her. Young falls in love with Mi-Do over the years, but will never do anything about it. Watching her from afar is enough and hating all of her suitors requires too much of his energy.

*A kumiho is a creature that appears in the oral tales and legends of Korea, and are akin to European fairies. According to those tales, a fox that lives a thousand years turns into a kumiho, like its Japanese and Chinese counterparts. Wikipedia
