12. I Can't Make You Love Me
Melody of LoveSunhwa’s head was full with thoughts. The vein on her head would not stop pulsating, despite her effort to relax herself. To say she was nervous was an understatement. She had gone beyond that.
Sunhwa knew, there was no turn back when she did what she had planned. All that would wait her was loneliness. Once she was done with her plan, she would curl up like a fetus as she cried herself to sleep.
Her heavy breath was such a reminder of how pathetic she was. Not even once in her life, she ever felt like this. There was a heavy weight that had been on her shoulders for some time now. Her heart kept asking her if she was ready to do this. Meanwhile, her brain had been telling her to calm down and being an adult for once.
Her thoughts were interrupted when the chair in front of her moved. A tall, tanned, black haired man smiled warmly when their eyes met. Sunhwa swore her heart stopped for a second. His look was on point, as usual.
Sunhwa smiled nervously. This was the man who was going to be her ex. A man whose life had been turned upside down when he dated her. Or maybe not. Maybe, it was her life instead of his.
“Wow, what a surprise!” Sunhwa heard herself talking.
She noticed how her voice trembled. The next second, she realized how sarcastic she sounded. Deep inside, she cursed herself. This man in front of her, despite his status as her boyfriend for six months, had always been someone she wanted to impress. Not even a single second she let herself to be at ease whenever they were together.
Sunhwa watched as he raised his eyebrow upon her question. The corner of his lips curled up, revealing his hidden dimple. The dimple she had always adored.
“How was your day?” He casually asked as he opened the menu in front of him.
A pang of pain hit her. The question was thrown so casually. He didn’t even try to look at her when he asked the question. Her head was noisy with questions being shouted all together. She shook her head, trying to shut those voices out.
They were not even that long in the relationship for him to act like a bored boyfriend he was. Or was it just her who was being overreacted?
“Nothing much,” Sunhwa answered.
She waved her hand, calling the waiter on the corner who had been waiting for her order since half an hour ago.
“This restaurant doesn’t really have much,” He muttered as he closed the menu, waiting for the waiter to approach them.
“We’ll have the usual,” Changmin said—quite impatiently to the waiter.
Sunhwa smiled apologetically to the waiter. Once the waiter was gone, her eyes tried to capture his handsome look today. His short black hair suited him so much. Sunhwa knew he had a love-hate relationship with his fringe. And today, he seemed to like it as he put it down, covering half of his forehead. Most of the time, when he hated them, he would put some wax or gel to shape them, telling her that he was done with them.
Her eyes moved to his eyes. The unique eyes she had been in love with. They looked tired, as usual. There were bags and dark circles under them, too. He had never said anything about them, although she knew how much effort he had put to reduce the obviousness. Then, there was his nose. His perfect nose. The long nose that would always give them problems whenever they wanted to kiss.
Kiss. The word itself was enough to make her lowering her gaze to his lips. The curve of his lips—she had explored them once. The way his corner of lips turned downward. Oh, how beautiful! Then, there was his skin color to perfect everything. He was perfectly tanned. It made his look ripped.
Sunhwa sighed. There was nothing lacking from him. He was everyone’s dream. Who wouldn’t want to have him on their sides? Sunhwa knew, when he was with the right lover, he would be the best lover they ever had.
She wouldn’t lie to herself, not anymore. It had been a while since she accepted the truth. It did hurt and she had cried her eyes out on lonely nights in her room. But, as time passed, she learnt to live with the truth.
He didn’t love her. And she knew it more than anyone else. Even more than Changmin.
This man in front of her, he was lost. And he accidentally found her when he was limping around. He was skeptical about himself and then, she was there. She admired whatever he did, cheered for even the stupidest thing he did. Somehow, she had built his confidence back.
Both of them were blinded. Or, he was. She knew she wanted him. There was nothing more important than him in her life. She was more than assured he was the perfect man she had been longing for. And not even by a second she wanted to lose him.
Although he did reply her feelings, Sunhwa had come to realization. This man, had never been clear about their relationship. He wasn’t as willing as he thought to put his heart in this relationship. He might think she was his savior, but he didn’t think of her more than that. He did not have the same burning desire like she had.
Sunhwa realized this when they had their first kiss. He went rigid after a few seconds, his eyes fluttered open and stared sharply on her. Ever since then, there was no following kisses. She had become suspicious on him at that time, wondering if he thought of her as someone weird or something like that.
Then, she realized how he never had any interest in whatever they were talking. She felt forced to be the one who led the relationship. She wasn’t naïve. She knew he had dated around when they hadn’t met. So, when he suddenly became the passive one, making their role switched, Sunhwa became tired and puzzled.
She knew she was aggressive. Who didn’t? Even he knew that. But at the end of the day, she wanted to be the one who being led. Not someone wh
