Love Me

The next morning, Myungsoo woke up, feeling the same as he did each day. Restless.

He wasn’t ready for the day, but he couldn’t do anything about it. He groaned and proceeded to wake up Woohyun for school. After successfully awakening the younger boy, he went to the bathroom and washed up.

He brushed his teeth, and as he was doing so, he looked into his own reflection in the mirror. He made eye contact with himself.

Ugly shade of yellow, as usual, he thought.

Then he remembered.

   Eyes!

With that simple image in his head, thoughts of Suzy poured into his brain, filling him with the excitement and wonder that had consumed him the previous night.

Myungsoo exited the bathroom with a spring in his step, and smiled as he got ready for school. He had something to look forward to. He excitedly put on his school uniform.

For the first time in a very long while, he looked at his profile in the mirror. A frown appeared on his lips as he realized how disheveled he looked.

Suzy wouldn’t like that. There wasn’t enough time left before school to groom his hair or clothes, though. He felt so sloppy.

He groaned and gathered his things. He took Woohyun’s hand in his own, stepped out of the house and made his way to school.

--

For the first time of his 3 years of attending high school, Myungsoo was finally early to class. It was because of Suzy. He laughed to himself as he walked in, because of how cheesy he was acting.

This is how stereotypical teenagers act, isn’t it?

As soon as he entered, he scanned the classroom for any sign of Suzy. There weren’t any yellow eyes in sight, but he did see a thick mop of hair sprawled over the desk next to his.

He felt exhilarated as he walked down to his seat. He wanted to wake her up and talk to her. He wanted to question her about all the things that were spinning around in his head. He wanted to know everything about her, and more.

He wanted a new friend, he realized.

He knew that it would be strange if he woke her up.

They weren’t even friends. Yet.

Myungsoo sat on his familiar rickety chair, and kept an eye on Suzy.

The bell rang, and Suzy woke up with a sudden jolt. The bell had woken her up. Suzy looked around in confusion, momentarily unaware of her surroundings. Her eyelids were thick with the remainings of sleep. Strands of her black hair were strewn across her face, and drool had accumulated on her cheek. She sluggishly wiped it away, and attempted to fix her hair.

Suzy finally realized that she was in class, but she couldn’t spot her school supplies. She looked around the classroom in bewilderment.

She finally found them messily spread about on the floor. Her sudden movement from earlier had knocked off all the things on her desk. She slowly, clumsily, and drowsily picked them up, one by one.

Myungsoo watched her do so, and couldn’t help but think about how cute she looked. He liked the way her eyes looked when they were drowsy. They didn’t have the sharp, malicious, glaring look that he had received from her the previous day.

   Yellow, he thought.

He normally hated anything that had to do with this eye color, but now it gave him a sense of familiarity.

He smiled.

Suzy turned to look at him, because she finally noticed the attention she was receiving. She still looked drowsy, but now she looked irritated again, like she had the day before.

“Instead of staring, you should have helped me pick these things up!” she scolded.

Myungsoo was surprised. He didn’t understand how she could yell at him so easily, when she didn’t even know him. He was also surprised that she hadn’t been disturbed by his staring.

   She doesn’t mind? he wondered.

He thought about the sound of her voice. He decided that he liked it. It was so girly and sweet. He wondered what it would sound like if she sang. Myungsoo felt as if he could listen to her voice all day.

--

Since Suzy wasn’t acting cold or awkward towards him, like one normally would when you meet them for the first time, Myungsoo did the same.

Myungsoo gave her a smile and teased, “I don’t know you!”

Suzy grimaced as recognition of yesterday’s events came to her.

He’s using my excuse on me.

“Alright. Sorry, Mr. Hyungsoo? Hyunsik? Um… I forgot. Yeah, whatever. Sorry.” she mumbled.

She extended out her arm and waved nonchalantly.

“I’m Suzy. You already know that. Let’s be friends.”

She him offered her hand.

Myungsoo gingerly took it in his own. He felt his fingers ignite with excitement as they touched hers. He couldn’t believe his luck.

“Hi, Suzy. My name is Myungsoo, not Hyungsoo. Or Hyunsik… We can be friends, but I don’t feel like picking up your papers.”

He smirked, and his smirk widened as he saw her reaction to his comment. An angry pout.

“Priss,” muttered Suzy. She picked up her things and started to take notes.

Instead of doing the same, Myungsoo twirled his own pencil around in his fingers and observed her. He couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she looked. Her long, black hair cascaded down her back, in wavy curls. She kept pushing it back behind her ear.

A habit, he realized. Happiness spread like a virus throughout his body as he realized that he was finally finding out more about her.

She is a goddess, he mused, and I am nothing compared to her.

She was wearing bright-blue denim overalls, with a cream colored sweater underneath. She looked like a child, he thought. An irritated child that was half-asleep.

Suzy gave him a side-glance.

“I know I’m pretty, but you gotta stop staring, man! You’re so obvious.” she said, in a hushed voice.

“Sorry. You’re more interesting than the lesson, Suzy.” he replied, with a smile.

She thought about his comment for a moment.

“Hmm. So you’re not only rude and prissy. You’re also creepy.” she declared.

“I guess that’s still not the weirdest kind of person I’ve seen,” she concluded.

Myungsoo was shocked at her blunt words. They cut through his heart like a finely sharpened blade. He didn’t want her to think that he was a ert. He was being so straightforward. But that was because he was so excited about the fact that someone was like him.

“If you’re going to stare at me… I can be prettier for you. Would you like that?” she asked, before Myungsoo could say anything.

Myungsoo was shocked at her words. What kind of absurd talk was that? He didn’t give her a reply, and instead just gave her a scrutinizing stare, filled with curiosity.

“Go ahead! Look at me all you want!” she remarked.

Myungsoo didn’t say a word.

“You’ll have to take my notes for me though.”

“This looks like the start of a good relationship to me!” she said, after he gave no reply. She pushed her pencil and notebook onto Myungsoo’s desk forcefully.

Myungsoo obeyed her and attempted to take notes. Her notebook was filled with very small, neat handwriting, he noticed. It was on-topic; he heard the professor mention words that were underlined in the book.

He tried to make out the contents of the chalkboard upfront but all of it appeared blurry to him, as usual. The board was filled with what seemed like white streaks to him.

My eyesight is tier than usual today.

He couldn’t see a thing.

“Sorry. I can’t see up there. I can’t take notes for you.”, Myungsoo said, apologetically. He gave her a weak smile.

“Why can’t you just copy your own notes anyways?” he asked.

Suzy flashed him a toothy grin. Myungsoo’s faint smile became even fainter as he absorbed what he was looking at.

He was overwhelmed by her beauty. He noticed that when she smiled, stretched out unevenly, the left side going out a bit more than the right. Her teeth also protruded onto her bottom lip when she smiled. Buck teeth. He liked the way that her eyes curled into two half crescents when she smiled.

Myungsoo felt as if his heart was going to jump into his throat. He liked her so much.

“I can’t see the board either. I’ve been copying notes off the kid sitting next to me.” Suzy admitted, bringing Myungsoo out of his stupor.

Indeed, the student sitting next to her had identical notes to hers.

“So it’s okay. You’re so obedient. What happened to the guy who refused to help me, from a few minutes ago?” said Suzy, with a giggle, causing the professor to give her a glare from across the room.

The un-even smile drained from her face. She lowered her gaze down to her paper and a frown formed on .

Myungsoo couldn’t help but chuckle to himself once he saw what had happened.

   Cute, he thought.

Suzy had attempted to take notes after being scolded by the teacher. Myungsoo, having nothing to do, fell asleep.

--

Myungsoo walked slowly, as if in a trance, across the shore of a sandy beach. He stretched out his arms and gazed into the sea. The waves of the sea continuously beat against his feet, and the constant push and pull created a sense of tranquility. He glanced to his side, and saw the silhouette of a tall girl.

   Suzy, he realized.

Suzy also extended her arms out into the air, while walking alongside him.

Suzy had turned to him, and given him a weak smile.

Myungsoo's eyes widened at the sight.

He looked at her face, and he felt as if he wanted to die. Her lips were chapped, and covered in dried blood. She looked pained. She looked so battered.

   What happened?

Her smile widened, showing several dagger-like teeth. The blood on her teeth was not dried, however. The blood from her teeth looked fresh. It looked like a blood red shade of paint.

Of course it would look blood-red.

  It was blood.

Although Suzy’s beauty was still apparent through her bloody image, Myungsoo was frightened. She opened further to speak. widened and the ringing sound of a bell erupted from . It was a deafening sound, and he staggered backwards and lost his balance. He fell into an endless abyss.

He was swallowed by the darkness.

--

Myungsoo was startled awake. He fell out of his seat and bumped his head against the floor. That was only a dream, he realized.

And the weird bell sound wasn't Suzy... It was just the school bell.

He got up from the floor. He noticed that the class was starting to clear out. There was no sign of Suzy anywhere.

Hopefully, the next time I see her, she won’t be covered in blood, he thought.

He thought about all the things that had happened during just one period. He had been struck with so much luck! He and Suzy were friends, and she was even talking to him in a friendly way now.

He felt really glad about becoming friends with her, even though she had a rude way of doing things. He knew she was kidding around though. He liked her, he decided.

He remembered what his brother had questioned him about the previous night. He had proven Woohyun wrong! He liked Suzy for things other than her eyes.

Then the realization hit him! He had completely forgotten to ask her about her eyes.

Well, I’ll ask her soon, he thought with a smile, since we’re friends now.
