Wipe the Creases

When I Was Your Man

A/N: I've changed the last chapter so there's no word of 'flashback' anymore because (((I think)))) it won't be that good if I write it in flashback-present-flashback kind. Hehehe I hope you don't mind and I hope you guys don't get confused and uh, fluffy chapter here. I guess. And lame title. /facepalms

It was one day around April.

Jongin kept his head inside his wardrobe. Damn, he cursed mentally. Just where those money he got every month from his parents had flown away? Different t-shirts, sweaters, snapbacks, and well, finally he got what he had been searching. Pulling it outside, he placed a red plaid shirt in front of his body. Facing the mirror, he scolded himself for lacking in confidence, that much.

"Is this... okay? Won't it be too neat for me or something..? " He mumbled to himself.

He was about to reach his phone to call Lu Han for any suggestion when a message popped up his screen. Krys. He blinked for several seconds before hurriedly reached for the nearest t-shirt.

"KAAAAI-"

Soojung cursed in her mind. Did she just burst in when he was changing? Bad timing, Jung Soojung, bad timing.

Jongin, too, stayed still on his place, covering his chest with a shabby tee. Yet, she still could perfectly see those packs down there. She gulped down the word 'chocolate abs' down to . The temperature felt like rising rapidly, and her face flushed crimson. She endlessly scolded herself mentally.

"I- I'M SORRY!" Soojung yelled and instantly closed the door, leaving Jongin with a thumping heart and blushing cheeks.

"You could've knocked."

They were on the bus, heading somewhere that only Soojung knew. Jongin, finally used a proper long striped blue tee after seeing Soojung was wearing the same pattern. Only, she was wearing the white one. They were using long sleeves, it was quite windy outside afterall. They looked like a real couple, finally, he thought. He wasn't the type to fuss over about couple bracelets, couple necklaces, or some other things that wasted his money that could be used better for foods. That was Kim Jongin's economical thoughts. But that time, maybe he could call it as an oppurtunity? He chuckled to himself. He had become the guy he once woved would never be.

"I didn't know you were changing! I already asked your mom and she shooed me up to your room," Soojung defended herself the turned her head to the window, not facing him.

Jongin blankly stared at her then smiled. Maybe if for this one girl, I could be that guy I vowed would never be. Willingly, even.

From his point of view, he could see her puckering her lips and her perfectly furrowed forehead. He softened at the sight. Just for this once and for this girl.

"Hey." Jongin called. Soojung listened but still, not looking back to face him.

Jongin called again and finally Soojung turned her head, only to met Jongin's face in front of her face. She widened her eyes.

Smirking, Jongin softly spoke, "This is our first year anniversary date. Don't wreck it up and scowl just because you weren't ready for my perfect abs, dear."

Soojung was lost for a moment but quickly regained herself back. When Jongin finished, he didn't notice the growing smirk on her lips too. "Oh, really?"

Soojung eyed him mischiviously and leaned in, challenging him. Jongin, too, didn't back off easily. He will lose eventually, Soojung thought as she came closer. On the other hand, Jongin himself thought she would give up. Closer and closer until they were separated by few centimeters. They stopped and stared at each other. Soojung didn't know Jongin's eyes were that beautiful from up close. She gulped and widened her eyes and gulped once again when she felt Jongin's breath on her left cheek. He closed his eyes as he pecked her on the cheek.

Jongin leaned back and smiled. "Happy anniversary, Soojung."

Then again, Jongin always did things out of the ordinary. Unlike what Soojung had thought before. But he knew, his girlfriend loved surprises. And he wouldn't want her to be disappointed. He wouldn't let her down.

There was a party hosted by Chanyeol that night.

Everyone was excited as hell. Seniors, classmates, juniors. Afterall, who could deny the charming multi-talented boy called Park Chanyeol? Not to mention the numerous yet never once failed parties he had thrown. It was a salvation party or something and that was his third party that year, already. And it was just summer. Heaven knows how many party he would've thrown by the end of the year.. if he wasn't planning to get his off of Seoul the day after.

"Krys."

Soojung didn't budge, only fiddling with her phone even more.

"Krys," she called a bit louder.

Still, no movement of response. Jinri blew a raspberry and threw her scowling friend an object she could barely see before she flied it across the room. When it hit Soojung's face, she immediately seated up. Her glare wasn't even intimidating for Jinri, which was rare. Her eyes traveled to the phone Soojung was holding.

"What." Soojung answered, exasperation showed on her face.

Jinri hummed before she ran to the bed, sitting next to her.

"You're coming right?" She asked her.

Soojung only stared blankly to the wall in front of her. She shrugged and sighed, thinking the 'if's and 'if-not's. She looked at her bestfriend and let out a small smile, "Yes.. Of course. It's Krystal Jung we're talking here. Besides, it's your boy's party tonight." She winked at her and the latter sighed in relief.

Besides, Chanyeol would leave tomorrow. She wouldn't want to miss any chance to bid him goodbye and, she couldn't bear to see Jinri nags and pouts and even cries if she turned her down.

Later on, they were in the middle of the crowd-- chattering, laughing, and dancing. Chanyeol was squeezed between Baekhyun and Jinri, who were trying to get his attention the most. Though, in the end Jinri won the case. In dimmed lights, they were sitting on that one bench, away from the crowd. Soojung, though, could see them clearly and smiled at the sight. How the tears flowed down out of Jinri's eyes from one by one, until she couldn't hold it anymore and let out a sob, freely. Chanyeol, in the other hand, had tears in his eyes too. Together, they cried in each other's arms and wasn't bothered, not in the slightest, by the loud music from inside his house. Soojung sighed, what if-

Her phone buzzed. She looked down and and sighed.

Sooyeon. She ignored the message and continued her interrupted reveries.

She didn't really complain though. It was his thing, and she perfectly understood. Or at least, she gotta understood. She put her phone inside her purse and leaned back on the couch, looking at the view of two people dancing stupidly while laughing loudly in the middle of the garden when just minutes ago, they were bawling their eyes out.

Her phone buzzed once again, and that time, she rolled her eyes. Yet, a smile appeared on her lips. Slowly, the smile turned into more like a grin before she scoffed. People who don't know her well enough might think there's something wrong with her changing expressions just in a mere second.

"Stupid." She said and typed something on her phone then sent the message.

The boy, on the other side, was frantic as hell. But when his phone screen lit up, he sighed out loud. Contemplating wheter to call or not to call, he finally had the courage. Nervously, he said hello and I'm sorry and it wa- was kinda, well, really fun that I was carried away by the time and a lot of don't be mad at me which Soojung just replied by being silent.

Little did he know that Soojung was really disappointed. Little did he know that Soojung had been really anticipating for that night. Little did he know that Soojung wanted to be in Jinri's place at that moment-- dancing.

Feeling that he got no response from the other line, Jongin kept on calling her name. Krystal.. Krystal? Krys..? Soojung....

"It's okay, Jongin." She said to the other line.

Jongin stopped, and waited for her to continue.

"I understand. It's just.." she sighed, "I'm just.. disappointed that you didn't tell me beforehand. Not even a message. Or simply reject my calls. I could've known that you're not coming. I know, you already told me that you were carried away. But still.."

Guilt all over his body.

"You see, I don't get mad at you. I often get pissed, but not feeling angry. And as long as I know you, never once, I've got mad at you. Now is not an exception. So you don't have to worry and keep saying sorry, okay? I'll head home after Jinri's done taking her time with Chanyeol and I'll let you know once I'm home--safe and sound," she sighed, as quite as possible.

"I'm sorry." As much as a careless--or pretends to be one--boyfriend he was, Jongin knew that tone of voice and the inaudible sigh from the other line.

The tone that she once used when he didn't tell her that his ankle had sprained at one dance practice, that he waved the whole thing off by 'I'm fine now. Don't fuss about it' when she found out. The tone that she once used when he didn't tell her that he got a low score in Math, that he said 'I didn't write note about that lesson. That's why. It has nothing to do with our date yesterday' when she blamed herself like a frustrated woman. The tone she once used when he was caught missing the routine of everyday lunch with her because he got too carried away with at a conversation with the new transfer girl-- which happened to be his first love at junior high back then.

Crestfallen.

Soojung stayed silent, phone still warming up her ear.

"Wait there for fifteen minutes then. I'm coming," Jongin said.

She widened her eyes, "NO!" She quickly put a hand in front of her lips, regretting the seeking attention action she just did, "No! Just- don't. Okay? I'll be home soon. You're gonna just waste your time."

"Who said I'm going there to meet you?"

She rolled her eyes, urgh.

"I'm stopping by because I haven't seen Chanyeol and I'm afraid I can't take him to the airport tomorrow." He said, stiffling the laugh.

Soojung rolled her eyes, "Fine then. I'm not responsible if you're looking for the nonexistent dance partner later." Jongin couldn't help but chuckle.

"I'm done waiting, Jongin." She added in a low voice, more like mumbling.

He softened by that and smiled, "Then what if I'm already there?"

"What? No- you said fifteen minutes and this phone call is barely two min-" she trailed off when she spotted the boy few meters from her-- smirking. Soojung had to hold the urge from running there where he stood and tackle him to the ground and give him a not so gentle pat in the face so that annoying smirk would washed away.

"Jerk." She mouthed as he came closer.

He sat down and tilted his head to see her, "Waiting for someone?"

"Babo," she said as she pushed his head.

Chuckling, he leaned in closer, "But you love me."

"Psh," she rolled her eyes, "don't get your hopes that high, Mister."

He laughed, "Stop rolling your eyes, will you? I can almost hear the sound of your eyeballs ther-"

Soojung narrowed her eyes and punched him on the arm.

"Forehead too," he called, "aren't you afraid of wrinkles? You'll get them even before you reach-"

Again, he got interrupted and his arm just met her knuckles for the second time that night. Jongin flinched at the pain-- Soojung's power indeed.

"So."

Jongin hummed, a signal that he was listening. He was playing with the zipper of his jacket.

"Never mind," she said and went back slurping the mocktail.

He smiled and stared at her.

"Quit staring."

Jongin chuckled, "Fine. But dance with me?"

"I thought you came here for Chanyeol." Soojung side glanced him.

He rolled his eyes and pulled her to the center of the garden, where everyone was enjoying the slow beat music-- tired from all the upbeat ones.

Soojung was blushing madly and she was nervous as hell. Although they had danced before, Soojung still couldn't make the first move when it comes to dancing, as much as she loved it.

Jongin knew, though, as he came to her and took both her hands, so they ended up circling his neck. He gazed at her softly and hugged her waist. Gently, he rocked the both of them from side to side, following the music.

"Soojung-ah."

Slowly, she looked up and her knees turned jelly when a smile appeared on his lips.

"I'm sorry for today, okay? I messed up again.." He started. Soojung stayed silent and just stared back at him.

He sighed, "The practice today, as I said before, was really fun. Since my exam is coming up soon, I had to practice new moves and- well, you know the rest."

"So who did win?" Soojung chuckled knowingly.

He scoffed, "Me, of course. Lu Han-hyung's skill is nothing compared to mine."

Again, she rolled her eyes again, "Stop bragging."

"I'm stating the fact, though. Anyway," he said, "aren't you planning on coming back?"

She didn't say anything in return, peeling her eyes from his face. Jongin didn't want to ruin the mood, once was enough for that day.

"It's alright," he voiced out, breaking Soojung's trail of thoughts, "you still dance on the same level as mine, though. You don't have to shed sweat like me."

Soojung couldn't help but laugh, "Right. Speaking of sweat, you really do smell, you know?"

In return, he just hugged her tighter which earned her laugh again, "Really? Then prove it."

They spent the night bickering and dancing. Jongin sometimes buried his face in her hair as they danced closer to each other, inhaling her scent-- his favorite scent. Soojung, too, sometimes placed her head on his chest, listening to her favorite beat-- his steady heartbeat.

"Once again, I thought you said that came for Chanyeol."

"Five more minutes."

This guy, really.
