Shall we say... food fight?

Trouble

The house was unbelievable when I walked inside. It was two stories, and as soon as you walked in, you were met with a hallway that led three different ways. I could only see that one of them led to a hall of rooms, but I was too far away from the rest to tell the others. You couldn’t even see a staircase yet, that’s how big this place was. To the right was a large living room, equipped with a huge HD tv and game system, a karaoke machine, and a giant L-shaped sofa that looked new. Although the house was two stories, the ceiling on the bottom floor was pretty high. The walls were painted a warm shade of brown and beige, matching the color of the furniture around, and miscellaneous paintings and decorations adorned the area, giving it a homey feel.

From here, that was all I could see. I looked around me to see that Kyungsoo was no longer beside me. When I glanced over by the sofa, I saw he was peeking out the window. Walking over to him, I took a peek as well and saw that rain was starting to fall.

“Thank you….” he murmured under his breath and looked away, avoiding eye contact.

It was starting to bother me how he had barely said a word in so long. And how he hadn’t looked at me either.

“Kyungsoo, don’t be ashamed. Being afraid of thunder is a common fear. Besides, we’re safe here.” He was still turned away and I couldn’t resist the urge to make him look at me.

I gently gripped his shoulders and physically turned him towards me. Glistening tears were running down his soft cheeks.

“My parents were killed in a car accident during a thunderstorm…” He trailed off and it seemed as if he was speaking to the floor. Those saddening drops falling from his eyes twisted my heart. I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to hold him again, but I had to do something. I couldn’t just stand here as he so freely exhibited his anxieties.

Pulling him forward into my embrace, I made it known that I was someone he could trust. Not just a random person wanting to know him; I wanted to be able to comfort him. And with his sudden confession, I couldn’t help but feel he was beginning to trust me a little as well.

I needed to do something, to get his mind off of things. I gently released my hold upon him and glanced around the entertainment system. My eyes landed on a white box with bright red letters.

“Twister…” I read to myself. “Do you wanna play?” I turned to the elder with a smirk.

He let out a light laugh. “Play Twister? Don’t we need more people?”

My shoulders lifted up nonchalantly. “We could always just place the board near the mat.” A smile crept upon my lips- this would be fun.

Kyungsoo locked eyes with me. “Bring it on.”

I playfully scoffed. The mat was easy to spread out on the floor. All of the colors stood out brightly against the warm shades of the room. From the corner of my eye, I saw Kyungsoo taking off his socks.

What…

What in the world.

“What are you doing?” I questioned, eyebrows scrunched together with curiosity.

“Socks make it slippery. I’ll have a better chance of staying on the mat if I use my bare feet.” He answered matter-of-factly.

Hmm… Good idea.

I knew I should have asked for permission to take off my socks too, but I did it anyways. We decided that I would be the one to call his turn, and he would call my turn. And if one of us were too far away from the arrow turner, then the other would do it.

We both stood at the end of the mat, sockless and determined to win.

I picked up the board and spun. “Left foot… Green!”

And so Kyungsoo placed his left foot on top of the green circle.

He took the board from me.

“Left hand… Yellow!”

I had to squat down to place my hand on the yellow. With my right hand I reached out and flicked the arrow.

“…Left hand… yellow!”

With this, Kyungsoo had to squat down and reach over for the circle next to my hand. He was only bending forward, so it hadn’t become difficult.

Yet.

Five moves later my left leg was in between both of Kyungsoo’s hands, and his left foot was next to a spot by my kneecap, causing his leg to hook over mine. Neither of us could reach the spin board anymore so we decided that whoever held their positions the longest wins. Since I was facing up and Kyungsoo was facing down, I could watch the peculiar expressions he was making. He seemed set on winning, but I could see his right arm start to shake a little. He was getting tired. I secretly watched, with ease I might add because I wasn’t tired at all yet, as he stuck his tongue out in concentration and creased his forehead with utter focus. The man kept his eyes on the mat the whole time, having no idea my eyes were on him. But… I couldn’t take them off. The sight of him sticking his tongue out like a child focusing on drawing inside of the lines- it was the most adorable thing that I have ever seen.

It bothered me none that people at that age shouldn’t really be doing that. I wouldn’t mind if he did that everyday. The sight was just so… priceless. The more seconds that passed, the more his body shook and I was starting to wonder if I should just… ‘slip’.

I mean no one likes it when someone else lets them win, but…

“OOF!” I dropped an inch and landed on the floor, ‘losing balance’ and making Kyungsoo the victor. I watched his face light up before his body promptly went limp and lay against the mat.

“So… tired…” He mumbled to himself, now giving his limbs rest. Even though this wasn’t physical exercise, his chest rose and fell noticeably while his breathing evened out. This cute bugger was really straining himself.

“Good job Kyungsoo-sshi,” I congratulated him on his easy win and sat back up from laying on the carpet. A large piece of lint on the hem of Kyungsoo’s shirt caught my attention. It was at about where his belly button was, so I reached up to pick it off.

“EEEEP!! ALS DFKJAHAHA” Kyungsoo shrieked as I took hold of the fuzz. I looked at him strangely as he rolled from side to side on the ground, twitching.

“…Are you okay…” I mumbled to myself more than to the elder.  Why had he made that nois-

HE’S TICKLISH!!

How could I not have realized this before? I just had to reach down and attack his belly.

“EEEEEEEEEEPA;DSLFKJSAD;LFAHAHSTOPSTOPSTOPITOMGKAISTOPITEEEEEPTHISISNTFUNNYTHISISTORTUREA;SLKJFAAAAHAHASTOPSTOPSTOPITOMG” I’m sure he was yelling for me to stop but I couldn’t hear anything over the sound of our combined laughter. He kept on trying to reach up and grab my arms but I was too fast, causing him to just attempt to roll and dodge.

When he got out of breath, I finally let up and stopped.

He instantly half rolled over, his back facing the ceiling and cheek resting on the floor, and tried to catch his breath.

“Oh, the tortuuuuuure,” he complained into the carpet and it took everything I had in me to not break out into a laughing fit.

“Imlsfkjgettingldkjyouslkgjbacklskgjforsldkgjthis,” I heard him mumble something into the carpet, and I think it had something to do with revenge.

Whatever. Like a charmer like him could really do damage.

I watched as Kyungsoo composed himself and sat upwards like me.

“…well… what now?” He looked to me with curiosity. It was getting late and I didn’t have work tomorrow, but I also didn’t want to overstay my welcome.

“Are you tired?” If he was sleepy then he could rest through the storm. But that doesn’t guarantee another thread of thunder wouldn’t wake him up.

He stuck his tongue out and contemplated, much as he was before while he was trying to stay on the twister mat.

“Not really.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Are you hungry? I can cook something.” He suggested and I was about to decline until a loud rumble sounded from my stomach.

A knowing smile crept upon his opulent lips and I knew I was caught.

“C’mon, Kai. What type of food do you like?” Kyungsoo propped himself upwards and held a hand out for me to take. I put my hand in his and quietly noticed how small his hands were compared to mine. When I was standing he gently let go of my hand and skipped ahead to what I assumed to be the kitchen.

There was a tiny, perhaps insignificant twinge of sadness when he separated our hands.

Stop thinking that way you weirdo. He’s just being friendly. Don’t blow up such small things and get your hopes up.

I sighed. I really shouldn’t be thinking this way. I’m sure this is the way many girls get their hearts broken- their crush says hi to them and they began thinking they have a chance. Yet the guy is as dense as steel and doesn’t realize that he shouldn’t let the girl fall for something fictional.

“So what is it?” Kyungsoo interrupted my scattered thoughts and I focused to see that his kitchen looked to be from a restaurant or a home and garden magazine. There were spotless dishes stacked in glass cabinets, a glass chandelier hung from the tall ceiling and a table for ten was tucked in a corner near indoor foliage. It all looked so elegant and put together.

And expensive.

“Kai, are you okay? You’ve been zoning out and you still haven’t answered my question.” An awkward smile appeared and that was all I needed to bring my focus back to him.

“Yeah, sorry. I like any food and I was just admiring how extravagant your kitchen was. It’s beautiful. Just like yo-” I slapped my hand over my mouth and pleaded he wasn’t paying close attention to what I was saying. My widened eyes stared at the elder as he didn’t even appear to hear me; his eyes were attached to a piece of fuzz that was making its way through the air, trying to land in his hair. He stared at it until he realized that I was staring at him.

“Crap! I was totally listening! I swear!” He stumbled and I assumed he was trying to remember what I said but it was no use.

Thank god.

If he had heard me call him beautiful I’m sure I would be kicked out on the spot.

To recover from his space session he hurriedly headed over to the fridge and began taking out ingredients. I offered my help and he accepted, telling me to mix and mince a few things.

One of the items he had was an open container of dippable whipped cream. I couldn’t help but have some fun with this. I took a giant spoonful of it and quickly spread it across his cheek.

“Y-yah! Y-you goofball!” He instantly stuck his finger into the bin and reached forward to smudge some cream on my nose. I’m pretty sure he was yelling some other things but I couldn’t hear him over how hard I was laughing.

When I finally realized that he had gotten me back I took a scoop of peanut butter and got his chin.

“Hah!” I smiled in accomplishment and stepped back with my arms crossed.

Bad idea.

Within a half second did Kyungsoo’s arm fly up and throw a piece of bread at my face, making me stumble back in slow motion.

Oh, it’s on.
