Fourteen

 

Lu Han   Light streamed into the building through the doorway that was now clear but no one celebrated.    “Min!” I yelled, running towards her.    Baekhyun was already by her side, pulling her out from under all the rubble. He checked under her nose for breathing and felt her neck for a pulse.    “She’s alive,” Baekhyun let out a sigh of relief. “Just unconscious. We need to get her to Yixing before she loses any more blood.”   I took a closer look at the gash on Min’s forehead that was leaking blood and tried not to get squeamish. “Let’s hurry,” I agreed, I picked her up quickly, hooking one arm around under her knees and the other around her waist. Baekhyun used his hands to support her neck and together, we hurried out across the lobby and out of the building. Moonkyu was already sprinting towards us, a look of pure panic on his face.    “What happened?” he yelled, eyes wide. “I just lost contact and - what happened to Min? Yixing! Yixing get over here!”   “She was hit in the head,” Baekhyun explained, moving aside so Yixing could take his place next to Min. “It happened so fast and we couldn’t - she couldn’t - ”   Face white with worry, Yixing let his fingers linger over the bloody gash before pressing his palm to it gently. A few tense seconds later, the bleeding stop.    “We need to get her back to Dr. Lee’s at once,” Yixing said grimly. “Jongin just took the others back but we need him now. Tell Kris.”   I turned to the direction he was pointing at and saw Kris with his back to us, talking into a cell phone. I took off at a sprint, yelling Kris’ name until he turned around.    “Han, you guys got out,” he said, letting out a sigh of relief.    I almost wanted to cry, but managed to choke back a sob as I collapsed at his feet. “Get Jongin back right now,” I panted, exhausted. “It’s Min; she’s hurt.”   Kris took one look at where Moonkyu, Baekhyun, and Yixing were huddled around Min and the smile dropped from his face. He relayed the message tersely over the phone to who I assumed to be Joonmyun before hurrying to join the others.    I don’t know much about medicine, but Yixing had been a med school student before this had all happened. I could tell by his face that this was not good. Not at all.            Minseok   Joonmyun’s face paled as he listened quietly to Kris on the other side of the line, and I was momentarily confused. Didn’t he just say that Lu Han had gotten everyone out of the building? Why did Joonmyun suddenly look sick to his stomach?   “I understand. He’s on his way. I’ll contact Dr. Lee right away and have the others prepare around here.”    “What’s going on?” Jongin asked, standing up. “Where am I on my way to?”   “Min’s hurt.”   There was a beat of silence during which we all just stared at him horrified. Min? Min was hurt?   “Go get her,” Joonmyun finally snapped, giving Jongin a shove in the shoulder. “She’s seriously hurt. Go now!”   The look on Jongin’s face was completely heartbreaking. Although none of us knew exactly what had happened between Jongin and Min, it was obvious that they weren’t getting along all that well these days. However, I could see fear in Jongin’s eyes as he turned away and disappeared into a black cloud of smoke. He was worried about her; hell, we all were.   “Kyungsoo, strip the bedding from her room,” Joonmyun commanded at once, picking out the members with the least bodily damage. “Tao, bring a few extra pillows. Jongdae, Minseok, get a bucket of water and towels. Sehun...” He paused for a moment to glance at Sehun, whose nose was still bleeding from a fist to the face he had taken from a guard in the fight. “Chanyeol, held Sehun stop the bleeding and bring a garbage bag and the first aid kit to Min’s room.”    I immediately got up and followed Jongdae into the bathroom. Wordless, we started filling a bucket with lukewarm water and I gathered clean towels.   “Do you think it’s serious?” Jongdae asked, voice subdued.   “I don’t know,” I replied truthfully. “Joonmyun seems worried enough.”   When we got to Min’s room, Jongin had already returned with the rest of the group. Joonmyun accepted the water and towels with a soft thank you and I was able to sneak a peek at Min. She had dried blood caked onto her face as well as a cut lip and swollen ankle.    “I need everyone except Yixing to leave this room,” Kris said, raising his voice. “We need to give Min some space. Baekhyun, Lu Han, go take showers and change clothes; you two are covered in dirt and grim and god knows what else. Kyungsoo, prepare some food with Minseok. The rest of you, wash up and rest.”   “I’m not going anywhere,” Moonkyu argued, glaring at Kris. “That’s my sister right there, okay?”   “Fine,” Kris replied through gritted teeth. “Moonkyu can stay. Everyone else - out!”   Jongin opened his mouth for a split second, as if about to insist to stay as well, but closed it after a few seconds. Slowly, unwillingly, the other guys started filtering out of the room, leaving words of encouragement and well wishes to Moonkyu and Yixing. Jongin stood rooted to the spot, staring at Min’s unmoving body.    “Come on, Jongin,” I muttered, grabbing onto his arm. I tugged softly, and he followed me out of the room. We shut the door after us, leaving Min with Moonkyu, Yixing, Joonmyun and Kris.    “I should be in there with her,” Jongin said suddenly, voice low. He was glaring at the closed door, fists clenched.    I just shook my head and headed after Kyungsoo for the kit
