Prologue
“I’m sorry.”
He heard his words echo in the darkness as tears slid down his cheeks.
“I can hardly remember now…”
Suddenly he felt warm hands wipe his tears away.
“It’s okay, Kevin,” she whispered. “I forgive you.”
BRINNGGG!
Kevin groaned as the alarm rang and whipped him out of his dream. Immediately tears ran to his eyes again, which he quickly wiped away. What was he, a neophyte? It had been two years since he had last gotten sentimental over the loss.
He picked up his phone and fumbled at the buttons.
“Hello?”
“Hey Eli. It’s Kevin.”
“Well, what’s up? You can’t come to work?”
“No, I’m going. But just wondering…how does a trip to San Francisco sound to you?”
