Bride To Be

I Stole Her Lips

Just like that, your eyes flickered open to be greeted by the faint rays of sunshine streaming through your window. Placing the side of your fingers on your delicate eyelids, you rubbed them slightly to readjust your vision to the light. With a deep sigh, you sat up from your bed and turned towards the nightstand to look at your alarm clock.

The hands indicated that it was exactly 2 minutes before it was supposed to ring. On usual days, you would just snuggle back into the warmth of your comfy blankets and treasure every minute of sleep. But today, it was not just any usual day. It was the only day where you were the star dressed in white - it was your once-in-a-lifetime wedding day.

Being an excited bride-to-be, you kicked off your blanket and slipped your feet into your house slippers. You grabbed your hair tie from the nightstand and bunched your bed hair into a messy ponytail.

With a few steps into the bathroom, a beautiful sight made of light chiffon and lace was right before your eyes, the beautiful creation of the well-known Vera Wang. You've always felt something magical about that dress whenever your eyes land on it, feeling like those Disney princesses in beautiful gowns who would live happily ever after with their Prince Charming.

With your fingers reaching out, your skin lightly grazed the fabric with a dreamy smile, imaging the look of your handsome husband-to-be at the end of the aisle. At just the mere thought of him, your heart fluttered in complete bliss.

DING DING DING!

Your alarm clock snapped you out of your trance, bringing you back to reality. Scuttling back to your room, you pressed the snooze button to stop the annoying ringing sound. At that exact moment, your mobile phone emitted a light tinkling noise, noting the arrival of a new text message. You picked it up and unlocked your phone to see a new text from the man that made your heart skip a beat. Eyes scanning the short text he sent, the corner of your lips curved into a sweet smile.

Good morning, beautiful! I'll see you real soon! I love you! <3

A few knocks came from the door of your bedroom. "Minyeon-ah, are you awake?" Your mother questioned from the other side of the door. "I just woke up. I'm going to the bathroom to wash up." You replied while putting your phone away.

"The hairdresser and makeup artist will be here in an hour, so get ready!" Your mother anxiously leaned closer towards the door, making sure you heard her. You assured her before striding back to the bathroom. As usual, you took your toothbrush and squeezed some toothpaste onto it before stuffing it into your mouth.

~~~
An hour and a half later, your hair and makeup was all done. All that's left was the most vital thing a bride should have - the wedding dress.
You took a few seconds to admire it before taking the hanger off as that magical feeling started to bubble in your heart again. With a smile on your face, you changed out of your dress robe and stepped into the centre of your dress. Pulling that beautiful dress upwards, you attempted to zip yourself up, but it was kind of hard to zip it all the way up.
As if your mother read your mind, she knocked on the door and asked, "Do you need any help, Minyeon?"
"I'm having trouble with the zip." You answered while dragging your dress to unlock the door. Your mother directed you back to the mirror and zipped you up with ease. A motherly smile was seen on her face as she smoothed the back of your dress with the palm of her hands. "You look beautiful, my baby maknae. Appa would have been very proud of you, I'm sure of it." She patted your back lightly as the smile remained on her lips.
Unknowingly, tears started to brim at your mother's eyes. You saw them slip down her cheeks from her reflection in the mirror. In attempt to comfort her, you spun around and wrapped your arms around her. "I'm sure appa is proud of me, too. I miss him, umma. But I don't think appa would be happy with you crying on my wedding day." You whispered into her ear.
Your mother lifted her arms and embraced you in her familiar warmth. She started to sniffle a bit before nodding her head to agree with you. It felt mellow to be in her arms, almost nostalgic when her scent wafted through your nose. Flashbacks of snuggling into her arms as a little child came across your mind.
Then, your mind started to wander deeper, bringing out memories of your deceased father. He was a jovial man who loved his family to the very core. Unfortunately, his time came when you were just a child. He was diagnosed with cancer, leaving his wife and 4 children behind. Though times without him were tough, you and your family were eventually able to work it out by growing stronger everyday, step by step.
Moisture started to trail down your cheeks. Slightly shocked by the tears, you pulled back and delicately dabbed your face with your fingers. "Now look what you've done, umma." You softly chuckled as you searched for a tissue. She grabbed a tissue and handed it to you with a chortle. "Sorry about that, Minyeon. Thank goodness it's waterproof makeup." Your mother tittered again as she wiped her own tears. You giggled and accepted the tissue before doing the same.
"Are you ready yet?" The door opened abruptly as your second elder brother popped his head in; interrupting the moment you were having with your mother. It was an annoying habit of his, he doesn't like to knock and you really despised that, but you forgave him just this once. "Yeah, I'm about to." You nodded with a smile.
Your brother pursed his lips, "Noona is waiting for you, and she has the heels you wanted. And a message from hyung for you to not be late for your own wedding, hurry up! Hyung says there might be traffic, so you'd better step on it if you don't want to be labeled as the 'Unpunctual Bride'."
You couldn't help but roll your eyes; it was typical of your eldest brother to say that. He always liked to arrive earlier at events and stuff. "Tell oppa that there's still a lot of time. As for unnie, can you ask her to come up? I need her help. Lastly, the bride is never late; everyone else is just, simply early." You cheekily winked.
Your brother chuckled as he shook his head, "Just come down soon, okay? And by the way, you look really pretty, Minyeon." He ended his compliment with an endearing smile. Blushing slightly, you just said, "I'll be right down. Now all you have to do is calm oppa down or keep him busy so that he doesn't keep staring at his watch every second."
With a nod, your brother shut the door behind him. You could hear his rapid footsteps down the stairs as he rushed off to fetch your elder sister and tend to your eldest brother.
You put your hands on your hips and huffed while your mother smiled. "Now let's get that veil on before your eldest brother goes crazy, right?" She said as she held that white, semi-translucent fabric in her hands. Placing yourself on the seat before your vanity, your mother busied herself with the veil. *Today is going to be a really special day.* You smiled to yourself.
Just in case you're still blur or confused, you have 3 siblings and you're the maknae of the family (;
You have a brother as the eldest, a sister in the second spot and another elder brother before you =)
