Foreword
“Hi.”
She said as she put down a lily bouquet and knelt in front of a tombstone of someone she really loves.
“It’s been 8 years since you left.” She took a deep breath. “It was so hard without you. I didn’t know what to do these past 8 years.”
She looked at the tombstone with very sad eyes. Her hand raised, her fingertips touched the tombstone very lightly—as if the tombstone would crushed if she touch it harder. “I miss you so much. These years I have lived a living hell. When you were here, it was hell, but without you…” tears started to brim in her eyes. “It was even harder.”
She caressed the tombstone over and over. “I was alone all these years. You were my greatest spirit, the only source to my will to live. You know… being an intelligence agent isn’t easy. But you did encourage me to do my passion—being an agent. But now…”
Tears rolled down her cheeks slowly. She didn’t mind it and kept caressing the tombstone. Never once she left this graveyard without puffy eyes, by the way. “I’ve stopped being an agent 2 years ago. I lived a lonely life after you left, you know? But now…”
Suddenly, a man knelt down next to her and grasped her shoulder. “But now, she has me.”
She turned her head and saw him. The man who rescued her from the grief, the sadness, and the darkness she had been for years. “Seunghyun…” she said with teary eyes.
“Hi,” Seunghyun said. He wrapped her hand around her shoulder tighter—giving a bigger support for her. “How are you? I hope you’re fine up there.”
She stared at him with shock. She had asked him to wait in the car, while she was going to have some private time. But being the stubborn man he is, he didn’t do what she asked him to do.
“We’re… fine.” Seunghyun shrugged his shoulder as if he was talking to someone who stood in front of him, not talking to a tombstone. She just stared at him with teary eyes. “Better than ever, I guess. Since 7 months ago, when I knew the woman next to me is carrying our baby, I became the happiest man alive.”
Seunghyun chuckled with his deep voice and moved his free hand to her swollen belly. He caressed it so gently, earning a soft smile from her. “Doctor said the baby is girl. What do you think? Will she grow up like a boy like her mother, or will she grow up like a delicate woman like you? Both are fine, but I think having one strong woman in the household is more than enough.”
Slight smiles spread on their faces. They knew that person up there would spread a smile at Seunghyun’s joke.
“Thank you so much for left her with me. She's the last yet the greatest gift from you. If it didn’t for you, I wouldn’t be this happy with a woman I married and a baby on its way.” Seunghyun spread a bigger smile. “You have to know that we always love you. Your sacrifices, your love, and our memories, are will be forever remembered in our hearts.”
