"Eomma, when is appa coming home?" The child tugged onto my collar as we waited for his dad to return home from work to celebrate our son's two-year-old birthday.

"He'll be here very soon, baby. Just be patient, yeah?" I cooed, my heart melting as he pouted before nestling his tiny head into the crook of my neck.

Running my fingers through his soft hair and pressing small kisses onto his head, I paced around the living room with a sulky baby in my arms.

Staring at the clock in disappointment, I sighed to myself, afraid that my husband is not going to make it back on time.

It's half an hour until the end of our baby's birthday and Kim Joonmyun is still working. 

*Kim Joonmyun, you better make it back for your son's birthday this year. You've already missed his birthday last year. I know you're busy, but you have to remember that you're a dad now. And Joonki will always be our first priority.*

Slowly and carefully placing the sleeping child onto the couch, I impatiently reached for my phone.

Tapping onto the speed dial, I moved to stand by the window as I held the device to my ear and waited for my husband to pick it up.

"Hello?" Hearing the familiar voice of Suho would usually bring me comfort but at this moment, I could only take a deep breath in an attempt to compose myself and resist the urge to yell, "Oppa, you promised you'd make it in time this year. Joonki has already fallen asleep waiting for you." 

"I'm on my way, honey. There is still 15 minutes left. I'll be there in time, trust me." He sounded so certain, that I had to sigh in defeat, "Fine, I'll trust you this time. Please don't let us down, oppa."

"I won't, love you." With that, he hung up. I did my best to remain hopeful despite the fact that he had already missed our son's birthday once the previous year, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to me if he did again this time.

As much as I loved Suho, I sometimes could not love just how dedicated he can be to his job. Don't get me wrong, I do find a man passionate about what he does absolutely attractive, that was why I fell for him in the first place. But a woman can only take so much when her husband starts to show symptoms of prioritising work over family.

Chewing onto my bottom lip, I glared at the clock and noted that there was only five minutes left until the end of Joonki's second birthday. 

Letting out a deep shaky breath in disappointment, I settled down beside the sleeping child to plant a soft kiss on the side of his head. Gently sweeping the hair out of his adorable little face, I thought to myself hopelessly, *I knew it, your dad is not going to make it. Guess it's just you and me again this year, little buddy.*

Suddenly, the sound of the front door unlocking made my head snap up as I straightened up and waited with anticipation. I couldn't help the smile breaking out on my face at the sight of my husband finally back from work, "I'm back, honey." He called out as I beamed and ran up to him, "You made it, oppa." I whispered, touched that he actually made it.
