Hurricane of Emotions
Cold RainJay intertwined his fingers around my hand. He looked at me and gave me a small smile. I smiled back. He pulled me closer and gently kissed my forehead. The butterflies in my stomach started to flutter. This man could melt me to the ground with every little thing that he did.
The rain had stopped now. The heavy rain clouds had cleared away from the sky; a light sprinkle of evening stars replaced them. The cold air, though, still remained and hung over the atmosphere, blowing at our faces as we continued to walk uphill. Lights which illuminated from the city beneath us seemed to grow smaller as Jay and I approached our last destination for that night – a restaurant which was cradled on a mountain top, giving us a spectacular view of the city.
We had spent the day driving around town despite the heavy rain. I showed him around, just as I had promised.
“Smile!” he told me as he took out his phone to take a selca of us.
“You look beautiful,” he said, staring at the picture he just took.
“I look nothing compared to you,” I commented. His handsome features just shined through the picture. His eyes, his nose, his lips, they were just so damn perfect.
He pouted. “Jagiyah, don’t say that. You’re really pretty. You should know that.” His aegyo was beyond adorable. I couldn’t help but squeal at his cuteness.
He laughed. My whole world just brightened up when he did. He was a charmer, and I was falling helplessly under his spell.
“Though I must admit,” he said, his eyes glistening mischief, “I am undeniably handsome.”
I playfully slapped his arm, but I didn’t argue with what he said. “Let’s take another picture,” I suggested. We posed; his arm wrapped around my shoulder while I leaned on him. Just as he pressed the button “capture,” I turned to kiss his cheek.
“Sneaky little girl,” he said smiling as he looked at the picture. His shocked expression was perfectly saved by the photo.
We continued walking hand-in-hand to the restaurant. He seemed to notice that I was growing tired from all the walking we’ve done. He let go of my hand and crouched in front of me. “Get on my back. I’ll carry you,” he said.
“What!? No, I’m fine. I can still walk,” I protested.
“If you don’t let me carry you, I’m lying down on the floor,” he joked.
“Okay, if that’s what you want. You can lie down on the floor.”
His face turned serious, “Arasseo.” He started to position himself to lie down.
“Aniyo! Fine, I’ll let you carry me,” I quickly said.
He smiled triumphantly. I rolled my eyes as I climbed on his back. He said my name. “You know that I love you, right?” he asked.
“Of course, I do, Jay-oppa.” I couldn’t stop myself from taking in his scent as he carried me. His tantalizing smell was addicting.
I realized that he knew what I was doing, so I stopped smelling him. I blushed in embarrassment as Jay’s melodious laugh echoed in my ears. “It’s okay. You can continue what you were doing,” he told me. I could tell that he was smirking in pride even though I couldn’t see his face.
“Yah! Don’t start to think that you’re so perfect,” I said in defense.
“But don’t you think so too? I can’t help it if I’m handsome. And I can’t help it either if I smell so good,” he said proudly as he gently put me down. We were in front of the restaurant now.
I feigned anger. Jay kissed me on the cheek. I turned red again, my fake anger disappearing from my face. Jay looked at me in the eye and said, “You’re perfect, too, you know. Even if other people think that you aren’t, to me, you’re the most perfect girl in the world.”
I couldn’t hide my smile as we walked into the restaurant and ordered our food.

It was already an hour past midnight. I parked the car in front of the hotel that Jay was staying in. Beside me, Jay had fallen asleep in the passengers’ seat. He snored lightly in his slumber.
“Jay,” I said to him gently as I woke him up, “we’re here already. Wake up, oppa.”
He opened his eyes, and rubbed them, only to close them again and fall back asleep. I laughed. Jay was too cute.
“Oppa, come on,” I insisted. “You can’t sleep in my car for the rest of the night.”
Jay stirred awake, and suddenly pulled me closer till I was off the driver’s seat and sitting on his lap. He wrapped his arms around my waist and hugged me. “But I want to sleep with you tonight,” he said cutely.
I shook my head. He pleaded again, “Please, jagiyah?”
“But, Jay, we just met and – “
“I promise I won’t do anything to you,” Jay said leaning his chin on my shoulder. “Please?” he was begging me like a child.
“Alright, alright,” I finally conceded.
“Yey!” he cheered happily as he opened the door. “Let’s just sleep in my room. Is that okay with you?”
I nodded nervously. I didn’t want to go to bed with someone I just met, even though I’ve loved him and known him for years.
Jay took my hand and reassured me that he wouldn’t make me do anything I didn’t want to.
Half an hour later, I found myself wearing clothes which were Jay’s and lying beside him. He was a perfect gentleman. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched him sleep. I pulled the blanket higher above his shoulder so he wouldn’t be cold. Just as I was dozing off, I felt him snuggle closer to me and hug me.
“Neomu meolgeman wabeorin geolkka,” he started singing TRAX’s song ‘Jagiyah’ as he caressed my hair.
“Neomu ppareuge da gan geolkka
Ije dasin, dasin mot bureul
Jagiyah~”
“I love you,” I whispered to him after he finished the song.
“I love you too,” he replied as he kissed my forehead, and finally both of us fell into a deep slumber till early in the morning.

The airport buzzed with activity. Passengers checking in their luggages, airport marshals shouting out instructions, flight attendants in matching neat uniforms sashayed into terminals. Sunlight poured from the glass walls of the airport. To my right, I could see the airplane of Korean Air – that was the plane that Jay would be taking.
Seven thirty. I only had half an hour left with the man I loved, Jay. In thirty minutes, he’d fly back to Korea. I wouldn’t see him for the next two years – or perhaps, I might not see him again forever. The mere thought of that made me want to cling to him and never let go. We were at the waiting area of the international airport. He sat beside me, and I leaned my head on his shoulder. Even though his dark-tinted shades obscured his eyes, I could tell that they were filled with sadness.
“Oppa,” I said, snapping him back to reality, “what are you thinking about?”
He sighed. “You,” he answered. “I haven’t even left yet, but I already miss you.” He held my hand tighter, pulled it to his lips and kissed it.
“I can’t make you stay, can I?,” I said softly.
He shook his head, “You know I can’t stay. It’s my duty to go back to my country and finish my years of public service.”
He took of his shades and looked at me with pleading eyes, “I know it’s a lot to ask, but will you come after me to Korea?”
It was heartbreaking. How could I say no to this man, the only guy who ever made me feel this way, this happy, and this complete? Yet how could I just leave everything behind – my parents, my job, and my friends – for a guy I just spent one day with?
“Passengers of Korean Air flight SJ15213 bound for Seoul, Korea it is now time for boarding,” the system announced. Jay had to leave now.
Tears welled in my eyes as I shook my head, “I can’t, Jay.”
“It’s okay, jagiyah. Don’t cry. I understand,” he said standing up and walking away slowly.
“Jay,” I called out his name one last time. He turned around and ran back to me, pulling me into his embrace. He pulled a heart-shaped jade necklace out of his pocket and placed it around my neck.
“I’ll be thinking of you,” he said. “I love you.” He tilted my chin up, and kissed me before he disappeared into the terminal, leaving me regretting my decision of not going with him.
