Prologue

At the park near the children’s home shelter.


“Yah! Mara-sshi why are you so happy today? Wae~” a 13 year old boy in blue shirt and khaki shorts asks.


“Carrot boy my parents are coming home and you see they said they are staying for good,” a 12 year old girl answered with that sweet carefree smile.


“Jinjja?” the boy asked the girl wearing a red dress with little roses patterned on its hem.


“Uh-huh” the girl answered


“Then they will be there at your birthday party tomorrow?”


“Uh-huh”


“Yah! Can’t you answer anything else except uh-huh, and why are you calling me carrot boy again, you should call me oppa, I’m older than you.” The girl just gave him a pout.


“Mara, Jungmin come now, we have to head home”


“Oppa, are you done with your business at the home shelter?”


“De”


“Lee-hyung, can we stop by to get some ice cream before you drop me off my house?”


“Jungmin ah ice cream again? Arasso, I’ll buy ice cream for you two before I go back to work”


“Wae~ you still have work oppa?” Mara was pouting.


“Mianhe baby, but oppa has to work”


“Hyung, aren’t you too young to work yet, you’re just 5 years older than me” This time Jungmin was pouting.


“Aissshh you two stop pouting. Kaja’

“Yah! Pali pali, we are so late, manager hyung will kill us this time.” A man waiting outside a white van shouted to his other four friends


“Hyun Joong-hyung, why are you shouting at me, it’s this Mal’s fault that we are running late.” The youngest of them said while rushing inside the van with the others.


“Yeah, somebody was dreaming of something, smiling at his sleep and woke up late.” A man with a charismatic smile and teasing eyes said.


“Yah! Who are you calling Mal? And Kyu jong-ssi I wasn’t smiling stop making up stories” the Mal said while pouting.


“Arasso, would you all keep it down, it’s too early in the morning for you to bicker, and Jungmin-ah you really were smiling.” A man with an angelic smile and cute dimples said.


Jungmin just pouted and look out at the window while recalling the dream he had, the scene at the park 10 years ago. The last day wherein he saw his childhood friend smile, the week before Lee-hyung decided to take her to California for good.
