TITANIC (EunHae Version)

-TITANIC-

“You jump, I jump. Remember?”

___

Lee Hyukjae was the young and only son of the Lee family. And with the first and only son’s stage came a place full of endless responsibility. His dead father’s name was very well known in England as the International responsible of the Korean companies in negotiations with the country. The exportations and importations between the two countries were indeed successful and with success came money and prestige.

Or at least that was what people thought.

Lee Hyukjae was going to make the year’s most talked translating trip in head to America, to marry a fine family’s beautiful youngest daughter. And as fine, the first social class did meant rich enough to hold three or four palaces just in the city.

Rich families married between each others, that was the rule so there was nothing unusual in this engagement, but – in fact – only the two families knew the real reasons to make such decision.

The marriage was motive enough to gossip in the high class and soon the reports that the fortunate, young and handsome Lee heir was going aboard “R.M.S. Titanic” to marry in New York was in the people’s mouths and had left the young single ladies dying in jealousy and their mothers talking with one anothers about the matter in their luxurious tea parties covered in overseas tea flavors and over decorated cookies.

"The boy will marry the Bouquet's daughter. Everything is more than settled." They talked with a composed but annoying voice.

“That young lady? Is she even at age to marry?” a younger woman with a tracery beautiful beige dress asked, taking a sip of her hot drink.

“She’s seventeen, I believe?” the previous shared uncertain, composing her fat body in the expensive Asian chair.

“What about her older brother? Shouldn’t they be more worried to marry the boy?” the younger asked.

“A fine boy for my older one… He’s what? 25? 26?” a third one with curly black hair stuck in an elegant hat, sighed.

“I believe so. He was good indeed for your older one. He’s as beautiful as his sister.” The first commented.

“It’s strange how he’s not married yet. I heard he refuses every fiancée.”

“It’s quite peculiar. But I heard he takes the company with his father. Apparently the boy is more interested in money. And he’s great doing it.” The third smiled.

“What can we ask more? Perfect husband!” one of the women laughed making the others follow her.

“But I thought he was very interested in the sister’s marriage.” The first curved an eyebrow.

“It looks like he really cares about his sister… And the young Lee. They are like siblings! Unusual, isn’t it?”

“Not at all! Like you don’t know men! They only need to appreciate the same cigarette’s label and stock’s investment to become best of friends.”

“Looks like he is as gentlemen as the young Lee. Perfect for your daughter indeed.” A quieter one shared for the first time.

“I should appoint some teas with his mother… Get them to know each other. It’s so hard to find a fine husband in actual times…”

“And Hyukjae Lee may now be scratched from the list.” The younger grabbed her tea.

“One more fine husband stolen away…” the first sighed and took one more cookie from the plates.

And the days were spent like this; between teas for the elite and marriage preparations and appointments for the Lee and Bouquet’s families.

The entire event made some of the rich families to hold one more motive to buy a ticket to the famous Titanic and travel the maiden voyage along the successfully unsinkable ship as it was told around Europe by “White Star Line” itself:  Some of them also had one more memorable marriage to be part of in New York.

Of course that even without a marriage or a motive to travel to the United States, they will embark in the first trip of the biggest, most luxurious and secure passengers transatlantic ship ever built.

Of course that such an incredible “White Star Line” construction needed to dawn a huge amount of interest.

When the ship landed on the seaport of Southampton - in April 10th, 1912, as it was noted in the ship’s diary - bringing already passengers from Ireland and a professional and experienced crew, the confusion was huge; the streets full of different classes, different dreams and intentions. Everyone holding the same conclusion: Leaving Europe and heading to America.

The port was crowded with the incredible mix of luxurious cars or horses and queues of citizens to check lice and diseases before entering the third class door. The first and second class doors were also different from one another, the floors filling with families waving “goodbye” to their loving departing ones.

The beautiful Royal Mail Ship Titanic was bigger than everything ever seen in water by those people, more breathtaking than any of his previous brothers or opponent ships and more imposing than most of European constructions. Everything that could be seen in Southampton was “Titanic”.

The fresh paint could be smelled and all the utensils and furniture where waiting to be first used. The sheets never changed and the porcelain never touched.

Titanic was called the ship of dreams…

And it was. It really was.

Chapter 1

A luxurious Cadillac was stopped right next to the first class entrance, where various maids and officials worried about carrying the never ending number of bags and suitcases between quick talk of “excuse me”; “this way please”; “Those bags are fragile” and “That way for medical inspection”.

A handsome young man with milky white skin and cherry colored beautiful lips stepped outside the car, offering his hand to help his mother; a beautiful Korean in her fifties, with a large lady hat and carrying an extremely expensive dress from the French haute couture in black and white, covering a corset that made her skinnier than she was. She was not as thin and beautiful as her son though and certainly not as tall. Hyukjae - as he was called when not by mister, boy, young man or young master – was wearing a black,  nailed coat with elegant sleeves and tail and a tall collar, covering his elegant neck who marked beautifully his light red hair, over a white pure Japanese cotton dress-shirt that covered his defined and graceful muscles. It was April and despite the sun, the weather wasn’t that comfortable for light clothes.

“So, this is Titanic.” The boy hummed with disinterest. He was beautiful even with that oblivious and expressionless face of his. “I don’t get what the big excitement is about. It doesn’t look any bigger than the “Mauritania”…”

A young taller, also beautiful and slightly older man left the same car with a young lady grabbing his arm: His sister.

The Bouquet brothers were different and equal in many ways. Both had British features, white skin, light blonde hair and mesmerizing blue eyes with a touch of green that remembered the Caribbean Sea shoals.

Still, Emily was very small, very elegant and very delicate, like a little flower. She looked like an angel with heart shaped lips and big water colored eyes; her long hair hold in simple hairstyles. Andrew, on his hand, was tall and strong, short hair and with an elegant but worked body. Very charming and with a breathtaking appearance, he was strong and fast in every move.

They both had also conflicting personalities that fitted their appearance more than well.

They only looked the most similar when they smiled, they both had their mother’s smile.

The man laughed, holding his sister hand that was rested around his right arm.

“Your son certainly is hard to impress, Misses Lee.” He shared and took a quick look at the great shade that Titanic was above them. “You may be blasé about many things but not about Titanic. He’s way bigger than the previous Olympics and far more luxurious. Not even “Mauretania” can fight against this one.” He shared with knowledge.

“It looks impressive. Don’t mind Hyukjae, he’s just too used to luxury, fortunately.” the old woman shared with a smile and also gave a quick look at the ship. “So this is the one they call unsinkable.”

“It is unsinkable! God himself couldn’t sink this one.” He shared with excitement before an official started trying to steal his attention to ask about the car.

“Hmm.” The Asian boy only snorted and made his way to the entrance with his mother, not missing the look that Andrew gave him, only shared between the two. He didn’t share any opinion since he didn’t want to answer back but he knew how this rich people loved to speak without knowledge. He knew a lot about ships and something he knew was that no ship was unsinkable.

The Bouquets followed right next to the other family, Emily not sharing a word the whole time and just making sure that her maid brought her coat with her.

The young girl’s parents were already in America, taking care of the marriage in the other side of the Atlantic, and so she was in Hyukjae’s and her brother’s hands for now.

She didn’t care much about the ship in fact.

She was scared. Really scared and she knew Hyukjae was too. He was never this quiet.

They knew each other for years since their parents had business together for a long time and they lived next to each other. They had a good relation and the family had common interests so since forever that they were expecting to be hooked up together. It didn’t mean it was a good thing.

They were not lovers and will never be.

Besides, she was just seventeen and full of dreams. She knew Hyukjae was way better than any uncertain husband but she wasn’t worrying for herself. The boy cared too much about her and he couldn’t give her the princess tales she hunted in her dreams.

She knew he was about to explode and she was worried about him.

And she was right. They both were almost like brothers. Although she was very shy, Hyukjae was the brother Andrew wasn’t always travelling and working and he knew all her dreams as she knew his secrets. It was not like a marriage between the two was in the list.

They were very well aware that this marriage wasn’t because they wanted it and it was terrifying and demolisher how their families used them without any problems or weight of consciousness to save their asses and keep their great business and luxuries.

Everything should be done to keep the family’s name. Even destroy their children’s dreams.

Hyukjae had only agreed and been quiet the entire time, sulking and contradiction his mother all chance he got just as the annoying rich kid he wanted to be. But he kept his posture, not desiring to alarm his beautiful fiancée or annoy his mother too much, since he knew his father’s death was way too recent.

Outside he was the gentleman everyone appreciated him to be. But inside… Inside he was raging, flaming and screaming.

His own life was being decided by others and he couldn’t do anything about it even as a man.

Not to mention the very dangerous side effects of this marriage with Andrew’s sister.

As he climbed the wood board of crossing to the imposing ship, he could feel the countdown to his cage. One more step to the enclosure: Titanic.

***

The constant noise and the strong essence of tobacco filled the cheap pub as the commoners kept their interest in beer and disinfectant drinks; usual talks about losing or finding a job or women and what about them making part of the laughs and cries of the morning.

But the biggest sound was the one from the enormous ship, painting the window’s view.

In contrast, one of the round tables, right next to the window was quiet as summer’s night sea, only the men’s breaths and sound of cards making part of the equation.

A beautiful young man in his twenties with Asian features and slightly tanned skin kept his gaze locked in the both East Europeans.

“Donghae, you’re pazzo. You bet everything we have…” a second one whispered in his friend’s ear. The Asian smiled.

“When you got nothing… You got nothing to lose.” He shared confidently and the game made his turn, every guy betting on a new hand and taking a new card.

“I can’t believe you bet the tickets.” One of the East Europeans bragged in his own language to the other. Donghae ignored them

“This is it, guys. Someone’s life is about to change. One of us is going aboard. The others will not. Moment of truth.” He smirked and made a movement with his chin in direction of his friend.

“Fabrizio.”

The owner of the name showed his cards with an apologetic look and frustrated sigh. The first boy made a face, sighing and stared at his friend.

“Niente.”

“Niente.” The guy repeated in frustration.

“Olaf?”

The next guy at his left looked at his cards and shared them in the table, grunting unsatisfied. The guy named Donghae made a face, not really suffering for the guy’s lack of game.

“Nothing… Sven?”

The final one shared his cards with a confident smile. The boy hissed in frustration.

“Two pairs…”

“Two pairs. What do you got?” he invited.

The boy ruffed his shoulder length light brown hair and sighed.

“I’m sorry, Fabrizio…”

“Come stai tu sorry, ma vaffanculo? You bet all our money!” the Italian guy with dark short hair and dark eyebrows above his expressive eyes settled up, demanding an explanation.

“I’m sorry, Fabrizio!” The Donghae guy interrupted with an amused smile grabbing his shoulder and slightly shaking the guy. “I’m sorry that you’re not going to see your family again in a long time… Because we’re going to America!” The guy laughed excitedly and throw the cards to the table.

“Full House, boys!”

“Ahah, Dio mio, grazie!” Fabrizio was screaming in over joy, hugging his friend and grabbing his bag. But then the Olaf guy was grabbing the Asian boy, ready to punch him. Donghae closed his eyes waiting for the punch. If he was going to America it would be worth it anyway.

Still, instead, the punch didn’t end on his face but on Sven’s face. The taller blonde was now arguing with the Sven one and demanding an explanation for the lost game. They had lost the tickets that were theirs previously. Donghae laughed and received an excited hug from Fabrizio again.

“I’m going home!”

“Fligio di puttana!” Fabrizio laughed in excitement and they hugged once more in contrast to the loser couple that was now cursing and arguing with one another in pure frustration.

“We’re going to America, Fabrizio!” Donghae exclaimed but was interrupted by the old barman that looked at the clock, the ship’s loud honk distorting his words.

“No, mate. Titanic is going to America in 5 minutes! But you’re staying in here if you don’t move your asses!” he warned laughing and the boys stared at the window in panic.

“Oh, !” was everything heard before they were throwing the money to a bag, holding their tickets as it was their life and running down the street in the 3rd class entrance’s direction.

“This is it! We’re traveling in high style now!” Donghae laughed running between crowds of people and merchandise filling the streets. “We’re a couple of regular swells! We’re practically goddamn royalty already, ragazzo mio!”

“See, it’s my destino! Como te tolde I’m going to America to be milionario!” the Italian guy screamed right after his friend. Donghae laughed passing right down a horse’s face that almost hit Frabizio, making him hiss a “bastardo!” before running after his friend.

“You’re crazy!”

“Yeah, but I got the tickets! Move your , I thought you were a fast one!” Donghae screamed running as fast as he could.

When they reached the entrance, the wood board of crossing was starting to get extracted.

“Wait! Wait!” Donghae screamed stepping the board and running to the entrance. “We’re passengers!” he claimed waving the tickets. The official stopped them and looked inquisitively at the two boys.

“Have you been trough the inspection already?”

“Of course!” Donghae lied with no hesitation. “Anyway, we don’t have any lice! We’re Americans. Both of us!” he explained, looking completely serious and certain of his lie. Well, he was not lying about himself despite the Asian looks. His perfect American accent spoke for himself. The man nodded not wanting to waste any more time.

“Right! Get in!” he instructed, letting the boys pass and commanding the extract of the board right after.

The two young men ran along the ship corridors between laughs and shoulder’s hugs, unable to avoid expressing their happiness.

“We’re the luckiest son of es on earth!” Donghae exclaimed almost aggressively in total excitement with a high tone, tousling Fabrizio’s dark fuzz. His dark eyes usually full of spark were glittering more than ever.

They climbed until the deck’s port side, looking at the masses of small people in the port, waving goodbye to the leaving passengers.

“Goodbye! I’ll miss you!” Donghae said with a broken voice. Fabrizio gave him a confused glance.

“Do you know someone there?”

“No, but that’s not the point! Just get in the mood!” The young boy laughed and waved for the strangers, sharing words like “goodbye” and “I won’t forget you.”

Fabrizio laughed and followed his friend, waving in excitement.

“Goodbye! Don’t forget me!”

“This is a new begin in our lives.” Donghae smiled looking at the masses of people while the enormous ship honked, making their voices disappear completely. Soon the huge chimneys were starting to leave small amounts of dark smoke and the sea was being broken with moving iron.

People were smiling and crying, waving goodbye as down there, away from excited screams and fuss, propellers started to move in a fast pace, moving the dark water and bringing the sand up and all around them.

Titanic was leaving, starting a journey that would not have a return.

***

“G-60... G-60…”

Donghae was muttering endlessly, walking the long white corridors from the third class with his bag on his shoulder; Fabrizio right after him. Everything looked the same and wasn’t that easy to find a room in such a huge ship.

“G-60… Excuse me. I’m sorry.” He said after bonking against a small woman carrying his bags. “G-60. Ah! Here it is!” he exclaimed with a smile, turning to the white door with a small placard written with a golden «G-60».

They walked inside the small room with two bunks; two tall men with German looks already unpacking his things in one of the beds.

Donghae promptly grabbed the strangers’ hands.

“Hi. Nice to meet you. I’m Donghae… Hi. Donghae Lee.” He said with a smile before turning to Fabrizio who was already climbing on the top bed and grabbing a pillow.

“Hei! Who said you get top on?” he teased hitting the laughing Italian and jumping to his own bed below.

The two strangers stared at them, completely confused.

“Where’s Sven?” one of them asked to himself, not getting the picture at all, while a constant noise of the ship’s engines a few meters below them broke the tranquility.  It was the quality of third class.

***

Three levels up in first class, The Bouquet and Lee’s families were opening his bags in the suite chosen for them. Well, to tell the truth they were not unpacking. The maids were. And they were just controlling like every rich person loves to.

They had four luxurious rooms for the trip with just the sound of ocean.

“This is your private promenade deck, sir.” An employee of the ship shared with Andrew. “Would you be requiring anything?”

“No.” Andrew answered looking at the window’s view.

“Excuse me then.” The man bowed and left, leaving the families with their affairs.

Emily was in the couch, quietly looking like a girl should stay and giving up on trying to help the maids; they will not accept the help anyway to tell the truth.

Hyukjae was the only exception, unpacking his art and appreciating it.

“Is the mister using all those paintings? You want them all out?” One of the workers asked with a smile. Hyukjae caressed his chin and grabbed one more painting.

“Yes. This room needs art.”

Andrew snorted looking at the strange draws.

“Art… I don’t understand why you take all these things with you. It’s a waste of money.”

“You don’t like the art, brother?” Emily smiled. She wasn’t very good in art so she didn’t have an opinion. Hyukjae was the addicted one.

“The difference between Andrew and me when it comes to taste in art is that I do have some.” Hyukjae shared still focused on the paintings. “This is exceptional. It’s like being inside a dream... There’s truth but no logic.”

“Who’s the author’s name?” Emily asked, curious.

“He’s not well known… Something Picasso…” Hyukjae shared not really giving attention to the blonde, while taking more paintings.

“Pff. Something Picasso.” Andrew joked. “He won’t ever be a thing, I’m telling you.” He shared with knowledge making the redhead roll his eyes.

“He won’t, trust me.”

Yes, Andrew Bouquet, Hyukjae thought to himself, you know best…
