Chapter Seven

We Weren't Ready

“I’m gonna miss you,” muttered Jongin as his lips hovered over his boyfriend’s.

Kyungsoo smiled; his head leaning against the brick school building whilst Jongin lifted the former’s chin with his thumb. “It’s only for the weekend, Jongin-ah. And I promise to call you whenever I can.”

Satisfied with Kyungsoo’s response, Jongin leaned in and firmly pressed his lips onto his partner’s. Placing a hand on the nape of the latter’s neck, Kyungsoo deepened the kiss; their lips moving against each other in a simultaneous rhythm. An electrifying sensation shot up Kyungsoo’s spine when Jongin gently nibbled his lower lip. It was a spark; one similar to the one Kyungsoo felt during their first kiss, but much more passionate. No longer was it a feeling of lust; it was an emotion of longing.

Ignoring all of the boisterous students exiting the school building, the older of the two willingly opened his mouth for the other. Without delay, Jongin slide his tongue inside Kyungsoo’s mouth; inspecting every single area of the latter’s cavern with delight. The amorous exchange continued; their lips touching oh so passionately. However, a slight cough made both Juniors halt their semi-scandalous actions before they got out of hand.

“Sorry for ruining your, uh, little moment here, but are you ready to go Kyungsoo-yah?”

Said Junior sheepishly rubbed the back of his head in slight embarrassment when he recognized the owner of the voice as none other than Baekhyun. “Y-Yeah, just give me a minute.”

Kyungsoo focused his attention back on his boyfriend before giving the latter a peck on the lips. Friday had arrived sooner than expected, which meant Kyungsoo was spending the remainder of his weekend over at Baekhyun’s house. In all honesty, Kyungsoo didn’t want to go; he’d rather spend the following two days fondling with Jongin. But be that as it may, the former felt that helping Baekhyun was the least he could do. When Kyungsoo was dealing with his bitter infatuation towards Jongin his Sophomore year, Baekhyun was always there to comfort him. Seeing how the latter was going through a somewhat similar situation, Kyungsoo felt the need to help as compensation.

“I’ll text you later, alright?” Kyungsoo reassured his partner as they gazed into each other’s eyes.

Jongin nodded, pressing his lips against Kyungsoo’s left cheek. Observing the couple in his view, Baekhyun couldn’t help but put on a happy expression. Kyungsoo, in the former’s opinion, deserved these moments of bliss. After two agonizing years, the two younger Juniors were finally able to reveal their true feelings for one another, leading both males into a healthy relationship.

On the other hand, Baekhyun also felt a sense envy towards the other two. Seeing Kyungsoo content made the eldest Junior think about Chanyeol. No matter how hard he tried to conceal his fondness for the latter, Baekhyun couldn’t deny that he had a strong infatuation towards him. Now that Kyungsoo and Jongin were a couple, Baekhyun couldn’t help but visualize how it would be to have Chanyeol as a boyfriend; kissing the other, hugging him, et cetera. But he’d never be able to do things like that, and it seriously pained him.

“… bus? Baekhyun hyung? Hyung!”

Baekhyun snapped out of his thoughts and glanced at Kyungsoo. “Huh?”

“I asked if we were walking or taking the bus,” Kyungsoo replied in a statement as he looked at the older Junior with a look of worry plastered on his face. “Are you ok? You seemed to be spaced out for awhile.”

The male being spoken to nodded, flashing the other a weak smile. “I’m fine. Let’s… let’s just go before the bus leaves us.

Kyungsoo’s eyes lingered on his hyung while they walked. Baekhyun was lying, and Kyungsoo knew that the former was thinking of someone. But the Junior let it go; knowing that Baekhyun will tell him about it sooner or later.

Baekhyun laid face up on his queen-sized bed, firmly hugging a pillow close to his chest. Fixing his eyes onto his extremely pale ceiling, the male tried to find the right words to say. However, doing so seemed quite difficult at the moment. What was he supposed to say? Baekhyun wasn’t the type of person who’d simply express his feelings without a care in the world. Plus, he didn’t want to sound like some irritating adolescent female.

Taking a deep breath, Baekhyun admitted, “I like Chanyeol.”

Kyungsoo, who was texting Jongin while also lying on the bed, nonchalantly replied, “Pfft, everyone but Chanyeol himself knows that.”

Baekhyun’s mouth went agape as he changed his posture. Sitting up straight, the male questioned, “How’d they figure it out?”

The younger of the two kept his eyes glued onto the screen of his cellular phone while he sarcastically remarked, “You mean besides that fact that your crush on him is mildly obvious? Because, you’re really obvious.”

Baekhyun glared at the other before groaning in frustration. “Well, what should I do?”

“Uh… tell him how you feel?” Kyungsoo advised; his tone suggesting that it was the only logical thing to do.

“That’s the thing,” exclaimed Baekhyun as he leaned his head back against his headboard, “I don’t know how to do that. That’s why I need your advice; I’m just not sure how I should approach him about this.”

If there was one thing Baekhyun was good at; it’s dating. Not to say that the Junior has had several boyfriends before, but he was certainly confident about his dating skills. Yet, when it came to Chanyeol, all of the dating experience he had seemed to have vanished. Baekhyun was always the one being approached; he was never the one to make the first move. So not knowing how to confess his feelings to the social butterfly frustrated him.

Kyungsoo opened his mouth to speak, but a raucous vibration stopped him from doing so. Acknowledging the fact that he received a text message, the younger Junior tapped the flashing envelope on his cell phone screen whilst Baekhyun dwelled in his own thoughts. Almost instantaneously the name Kris  appeared, and curiosity soon flowed through Kyungsoo’s body.

To: Kyungsoo

From: Kris

Wanna play a few rounds of basketball? Me and Chanyeol are already at the court, so invite whoever you want *wink wink*

The receiver read the message in confusion; why did Kris ask him out of all people? Kyungsoo was starting to believe that Kris texted the wrong person. He probably meant to send this to Sehun, or Tao even. However, rereading the text message, Kyungsoo was able to piece everything together; like a jigsaw puzzle. When Kris texted ‘invite whoever you want’ and then added ‘wink wink’  at the end, he realized that the former wanted Kyungsoo to invite Baekhyun over for Chanyeol.

With an idea forming in his mind, Kyungsoo averted his attention towards Baekhyun, who went back to staring at his ceiling. “Hyung, can we go to the park and play some basketball?”

Basketball?” Baekhyun emphasized, looking at his friend as if the latter wasn’t in the right state of mind. “You know how much I dislike playing basketball.”

“Come on,” urged Kyungsoo as he nudged the other with his foot. “Kris invited us, and it’d help get your mind off of things for awhile.”

The eldest Junior puffed out his cheeks in contemplation before letting out a sigh. “Fine, but we’re not staying for long.”

Kyungsoo contently exhaled when he and Baekhyun stepped foot on the basketball court. Wasting no time, both males walked through the open gate in their path and carelessly placed their belongings on the grass. Spotting Kris and Chanyeol, Kyungsoo sent them a small wave. Baekhyun, on the contrary, halted his movements when he saw his crush frantically waving at him. While the other two Juniors strolled towards them, Baekhyun grasped the hem of Kyungsoo’s shirt and pulled him aside with his heart beating wildly in his chest.

“You didn’t tell me Chanyeol was coming!” Baekhyun whispered harshly.

“I know,” was all Kyungsoo said, a grin playing on his lips.

Baekhyun sharply exhaled, and it took everything he had not to scream out his frustrations. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to feel happy that Chanyeol was here, or be upset that he was tricked to come here because of the first reason. Greetings between the males were short, and consisted of Baekhyun biting the inside of his cheek to prevent any type of blush from showing when Chanyeol warmly smiled. Soon after, all four Juniors found themselves at the center of the basketball court, determining the teams.

Kris spun the ball around on his finger before suggesting. “How about me and Chanyeol go against the two of you?”

“That’s not fair!” Baekhyun voiced, catching the attention of the other boys. “I mean, you two are tall and me and Kyungsoo are short. That’s a disadvantage!”

“Then you can pair up with Chanyeol while I team up with Kyungsoo. Better?” Kris asked, a smirk visible on his face.

Before Baekhyun was able to object, the game had commenced. Dribbling the ball  Kris lifted his arms and threw the ball over to Kyungsoo. The latter ran with the ball, curving around Chanyeol while as he let go of the basketball in a parabola-like motion towards the hoop. Unfortunately, the ball bounced off the rim and made its way into Chanyeol’s hands.

The game continued in that manner, with Kris and Kyungsoo’s team scoring more than the others. Baekhyun, who currently had the ball, dribbled it for a few seconds before flinging it over Kyungsoo’s head. Chanyeol instantly caught the ball, and tried his utmost best to get past Kris’s blocking so that he could shoot the basketball through the hoop. Kris, however, was putting on a competitive fight, leaving Chanyeol with no other choice but to pass the ball back over to Baekhyun.

Chanyeol’s pass went unsuccessfully, and Kyungsoo soon found himself trying to dodge various tackles while keeping his central focus on the ball. When the latter gathered enough momentum, he flung the ball in the direction of the basketball hoop. Seeing this, Baekhyun ran backwards to catch the ball. Unluckily, the Junior tripped on his own shoelaces, causing him to fall back onto his shoulder.

Baekhyun winced at the collision; heavily inhaling as pain coursed through his body. The male brought a hand towards his right shoulder, situating it over the newly received wound. Ball forgotten, the remaining players rushed to Baekhyun’s side, placing him on his good side so that they could take a look at his injuries. Luckily for all of them, the latter only obtained minor cuts and scrapes.

“We must have bad luck,” Kyungsoo directed towards Kris after telling Baekhyun to sit this one out. “Every time we play two on two, someone from the other team always gets injured.”

Kris shrugged as he saw Chanyeol help Baekhyun. “Both times were for the best.”

“Both?” interrogated Kyungsoo, trying to figure out what Kris meant by that.

The other male merely shrugged once again, turning his head in Chanyeol’s direction. “Watch over Baekhyun for us, ok? Kyungsoo and I are going to play one on one for a little while.”

Chanyeol nodded as he sat down beside Baekhyun on the grass. “You ok?”

“Oh, no, I’m perfectly fine,” Baekhyun told him, not meaning to sound as sarcastic as he did. But he couldn’t help it; he was hurt, and had practically embarrassed himself in front of Chanyeol. “I ing hate basketball. A lot.”

The younger of the two stood silent; he didn’t know what to say. Chanyeol had told Kris to invite Baekhyun because he wanted to confess his feelings to the other. However, his plan seemed to have gone wrong, seeing how Baekhyun had gotten hurt and hated basketball to begin with. Yet, there was still something Chanyeol couldn’t quite grasp after Baekhyun’s little piece of information.

“If you hate basketball so much,” began Chanyeol while he raised an eyebrow, “why’d you come?”

Baekhyun’s eyes widened at the other’s question, and he truly didn’t want to answer. Silence consumed them for a moment, until the older of the two softly whispered, “I came here for you.”

Chanyeol’s head snapped in Baekhyun’s direction, not catching the other’s words. “What’d you say?”

“I said that I came here for you,” rephrased Baekhyun much louder than before. The older Junior felt his face go warm at the admittance; his eyes staring intently at the grass as he picked at it.

The younger male felt his heart skip a beat, but he wanted to know more. “Why would you do that?”

Baekhyun took a deep breath before turning his head. Gazing into Chanyeol’s eyes, Baekhyun gained enough courage to mutter, “B-Because I… I like you, Chanyeol-ah. A lot.”

Chanyeol beamed at the semi-shy confession, shooting the other a big smile. “I like you too, hyung. A lot.”

With those words said. Chanyeol inched closer to Baekhyun and pressed gently pressed his lips onto the latter’s. Baekhyun’s eyes grew wide at the action, and quickly felt a strange sensation shoot up his spine. Giving in, Baekhyun closed his eyes peacefully and kissed back. It was a sweet kiss, one filled with emotions that only they could understand. Chanyeol felt at bliss; he had waited so long for this moment to happen, and the feeling was mutual. Their lips molded together perfectly; and it was as if their clay hearts had been combined. They had survived the fiery kiln and were now ready to be glazed.

Not a word was uttered when they pulled away from the kiss, both of them choosing to just bask in each other’s company. Baekhyun laid his head on top of Chanyeol’s shoulder and contently sighed. The latter took a hold of Baekhyun’s hand; intertwining them as he brushed his thumb over Baekhyun’s. They were in their own little world, not paying mind to the other two Juniors that had stopped playing in order to observe them.

Kris leaned against the basketball pole and smirked. “I told you it was for the best.”

“That you did,” agreed Kyungsoo as he held onto the ball. “But you still haven’t told me about the first time. Tao got hurt the first time; how was that for the best?”

The Chinese male said nothing, grabbing the ball from Kyungsoo before running off with it. Kyungsoo wasn’t sure if he was seeing things, or if there was really a smile on Kris’s face. The young Junior chose the former as he made his way towards Kris and the basketball.

A/N: I really hate this chapter. I don't know why, it just seems like a fail to me. Well, we have a lot of Baekyeol in this chapter. I had to write this in order for the plot to proceed, so sorry for the lack of Kaisoo. And there's a hint of Taoris if you can spot that out. If you didn't understand what Kris and Kyungsoo were talking about, reread chapter 4. And... that's all I have to say regarding this chapter. Like I said, I wasn't a fan of it. Maybe because it's three in the morning over here and I can't think straight.

Also, I'm writing a new Taoris centered fic called Risqué. It's a teacherxstudent type fic, so if you're not into that stuff you don't have to read it. If you are, or don't mind that theme, subscribing is always welcomed ♥ I'd really appreciate it.

To all my other commenters and subscribers:

@allmycommentersandsubscribers: I love you guys all, and I'm happy you enjoyed the previous chapter! Keep commenting and I hoped you liked this chapter just as much!

Bye ♥

Chapter 13: Why do you always say that you hate what you publish? Are you rushing? DON'T!!!! Slow down if you are not happy; we'll wait!!!!! I am afraid to comment if you feel unhappy with your work. I view it as really good and I will leave it at that. Just slow down and only publish what you can honestly say that you like, my friend.

Chapter 12: FIRST, and most importantly, please write at YOUR leisure and convenience. No one, especially yourself, should make you feel guilty for living your life and doing things other than writing here. You have a life outside of AFF and we should COLLETIVELY acknowledge and appreciate that. After all, WE all have lives beyond this app. I do appreciate when authors DO remember that we are here and come back as soon as they an to write. There are other stories that I have waited for YEARS to be updated, so I understand. I see both sides. Now to the story:

Nope, sorry, right now Suho IS on my list. We should NEVER transfer the harsh realities in our own lives to those who have no part in it. Yes, crying on friend's shoulders is very important, but to get upset for their misfortunes........especially ones that they can't help??? Suho was WRONG!!! I always try to place someone's pain "on the table" and try to look at it in 360 view and place myself in it.

Mama is stepping up to the plate in high fashion, so to speak. I am glad for her resolution and Baekhyun's unwavering support. Even if Suho comes back, Baekhyun was the better friend by NOT trying to qualify if Kyungsoo's situation was worthy of support. Kyung is his FRIEND, which means that Baek didn't have to think it over o support him; it was already in the cards for him to be a supportive friend. I would like to think that the talk that they had in "Baekhyun's Jeju" was a big part of Kyungsoo's decision.

Poor Baekhyun. At first I thought it was Chanyeol who had died and I was so hurt. When I read that it was Baekbeom, I was devastated!!!! It took my back to being by my brother Ron's side as he breathed his last. It was earth shattering and your writing pulled it all out of me. I cried and stepped deeper into my feelz. That is what good writers do to their readers. I honestly felt you saying "it's okay to cry.....again" Absolutely riveting!!!

And now Jongin knows something is afoot. I feel the awkwardness of the staring contest that the two are having. I wish Baek was there.

Chapter 11: Mama Kyungsoo has my forgiveness, but her timing still STINKS!!!!! As mama, you should have been "quicker on the draw" on showing your support and telling your kid that you hate them for even a second is unforgiveable. That second an turn into forever in their heart. Kids tend to personalize comments like that and make them grow like tall tales. He should have never known that, but it is part of the story that pulls readers in and makes us "emotional participants" and I love it.

Congrats on your school accomplishments. I know that you have done so much more by now. Keep us in the loop!

Suho is gonna read Soo the riot act for lying!!!! Baekhyun will do the same while crying. Really Kyungsoo really SHOULD come clean and tell them what is happening. He needs as much support as he can get, no matter which way the test go!!

My query is.....when is he gonna be brave enough to tell Jongin??? If it's cancer, then it's his boyfriend that is in danger. If Kyungsoo is pregnant, then it's his baby and he deserves to know.

Chapter 11: I have only read up to the part where Kyungsoo's mom walked out of the boardroom and left a devastated boy behind to deal with the terror and sadness of a possible too early parenthood at best and death at worst that is MORE crippled by the guilt that she has heaped on him and I HAAAAD to go to the comments!!! I am SOOOOO FREAKING MAD at her!!! How DARE she leave the son that she SAYS that she loves to deal with all of this alone! SHE IS A RETARDED !! Parents that walk away from their troubled children deserve NOTHING good because the good that God gave them (ie the baby Kyungsoo) they threw away!!! She should go back to him, apologize and BE THERE FOR HIM!!!!

And before you say it, I am a mom myself with a pregnant granddaughter. She was a bit apprehensive about telling me, but when I got the all and I told HER that I already knew and was exited about becoming a GREAT grandmother, she felt relieved! I do understand her shock. No, I DO NOT understand her "disappointment". Kids are going to do things we don't like; testing the boundaries of everything about their lives.

Also, I lost my brother to pancreatic, testicular and lymphomic cancers. I know the pain that he felt telling us and I watched him take his last breath in my home.

This is the emotional chaos that she is allowing him to bear .............. at age 16??????? I just want to beat the ever loving F OUT OF HER!!!!!

I like the fact that this story is just pulling me in and live every moment and emotion with the characters!! You write so well!!! It's really very compelling!!!

Chapter 10: Hi. It's about 3AM here as I read. This story is very intriguing and I love it. I am "late to the party" for reading this but thanks for the update. Poor Kyungsoo. He is taking this better than I would. Know that I will never press you for an update, but I will TOTALLY chat my head off about how exciting it WOULD be if you updated! I believe that greatness takes time and would never rush you to create something that you are not happy with just to have an update. Life DOES have to be dealt with and as an educator. I understand the critical all of schoolwork.

Chapter 8: Taorisulay sounds like a french dish! LOL I loved this chapter even better and I am willing to wait for more greatness! As an educator, I understand that life gets in the way of living and having to make a living sometimes doesn't help you enjoy the life that you're trying to make. I wish you could read your wonderful story through the eyes and emotions of your readers and understand how we really long for your literary masterpieces

Chapter 6: I know that if Luhan knew the truth he would be so upset. I wonder if he would use martial arts to kick their asses? Something tells me that HE will be Sehunnie's protector
