The Year I Met You

WOW. GUYS. I made so many mistakes in my previous chapter that I had to rewrite some stuff LOL. EMBARASSING. :( You+Kris  part II. This is the last of the flashbacks. I swear.

---   As the visits from Mr. Li became more frequent, the closer Kris and you became. In front of  your Dad, the two of you acted as if you were nothing but strangers and looked as though you'd have more fun playing with a common fly than with each other. However once the door closed for his meetings, the two of you would run off into your backyard, and sit by your pond. You would hand over the fish treats to Kris and he would feed Wu and Fan. The two of you talked for hours on end about nothing. Because nothing, can be something sometimes too, right?    You'd talk, while he'd listen. He wasn't much of a talker, but he listened well. He enjoyed hearing you speak of your days, and he enjoyed how passionate and full of life you were. He hasn't met any girl who spoke so openly of her dreams with such commitment before and he found it rather enjoyable to sit here and just listen; to take it all in and let the words sink themselves into his brain like an imprint.    He also liked the sound of your voice, though he would never admit to it due to that boyish ego of his. Your voice, no matter how long he listened, always soothed his ears, and calmed his nerves. It was high pitch, a bit squeaky, but that was only because you were growing into a woman. When he first laid eyes on you, you had a disturbing beauty that shrouded around you. However, slowly as he got to know you, he realized it wasn't disturbing. It was a unique shuddering beauty that causes male to stumble upon your unique features. You had plump lips and small eyes, but they were beautiful, and were full of depth and questions.    As you talked, he would steal glimpses here and there, and at times he found himself getting lost in those dark, wondrous orbs of yours. It was like a mysterious forest to him, he could seach around endlessly for a way out, but he knew in his heart that eyes like these were unescapable.    Most of the times, you urged him to talk. Though he never knew how to start, you were always ready to attack him with questions. You were a curious child, ever since you could remember. A boy like him must have so many hidden stories behind eyes like his. He barely smiled, and hardly laughed. He almost, always had a scowl on his face. You didn't know what intrigued you so much about him; he was awkward and shy, and you were outgoing and full of life. Perhaps it was in the long drag of silence after his sentences, or the way he would look up at the sky with pinched eyebrows, or his graceful steps. You didn't know.    You were just a girl back then.    Time went on, and the years passed. Your friendship with Kris increased, as he became more involved with your Father. Apparently, he was the prodigy of your Father, undergoing serious training. He had gain his black belt from his father. Kris never told you much, and you never pressed on. What he did with your Father was his business. As long as your father did no wrong and stir no harm upon him, you were happy.   Eventually, you saw less of Mr. Li and more of Kris.   Your Father acknowledged the fact that you and Kris were close, but he didn't realize that the two of you were THIS close. It never crossed his mind that his little girl was growing up, and it definitely didn't cross his mind for you to take such interest in a boy like Kris. He had no special qualities that made him stand out, he had nothing, he came form a family that was full of debt and all in all, he was worthless in your Father's eyes. But as luck would have it, however, Kris was intellectually talented and a skilled fighter, and that was exactly your Father needed for his team.    When Kris fought, he was full of agility and immense power. As quick as the night, they would say. He was next up in the line of best fighters in China, earning his skills from his own father, of course.   Mr. Li was growing old, while Kris was young and full of energy. With that being said, Kris replaced his Father, and though your father was a bit doubtful at first, the smoke of doubt quickly vanished once he had sent Kris on multiple secret missions to travel around Beijing and Shanghai for a drug bust. He was still fairly new, but as promised from Mr. Li, he did have talent in the fighting area. It took a lot to impress your Father, so he used understatement terms to describe Kris when his partners asked about how well Kris performed his given tasks.    You were clueless about everything.   Every time when Kris returned after a long absence, he told you it was because he was training. It wasn't a whole lie, but it wasn't a complete truth either. He wanted to tell you, but he didn't know how well you would take it. It killed him to think that you would be disgusted with him, to imagine him ruthlessly beating up someone without remorse until they were nothing but a dead corpse. He wasn't exactly proud of what he was doing, but with his blood line owing a great amount of debt to your family, it was not a choice he coud make himself.    But you found out, eventually you did.   Your Father had hosted a party, and you were more than ecsatic about it. You loved parties! You loved buying a new dresses, and having fresh new curls in your hair. You loved your sailor dresses and the way they flowed though the wind. Your Father set up a huge party, gathering all of his friends in your backyard. Kris was nervous as hell that night. The two of you locked eyes briefly, and you smiled as you looked away, greeting your father's friends. It was a business-like type of party. You didn't realize this was like a coming of age party for Kris.   Well technically, 'coming-of-a-assassin-party' type of thing, or else you would have refused to have gotten so dressed up.     Everything was fine. Dinner was full of chats, laughing and mingling around. If only you knew half these people were murderers and drug dealers you would've been frightened to death!    Soon, it was time for a toast. Your father stood up and said a long speech about something that you weren't listening about. Your mind was wandering about as your eyes scanned for Kris. Mind you, he was wearing a gray dress shirt with a black tie which fit his lean torso and flat stomach so well you thought your heart might have needed to restart. He was growing more handsome by the day, and your body reacted to him as if being zapped by a strong electric current.   Your eyes found him, but there he was, scowling deeper than ever.    Your Father finished, and he lifted his glass champaign up. "To Kris." He said. Everyone in the crowd glanced back at the person whose name that belonged to. Your head tilted curiously. Who was Kris? You thought. Your eyes followed theirs, and they widened when you saw Kris standing up, his hands lifted as if he was toasting your father back with his drink.    You couldn't remember why but you were furious after that.   Kris tried to speak to you for days, and you avoided him at every possible cost. You didn't know why you were so angry, but one thing for sure, 'Jia Heng' sounded a lot better than 'Kris' any day. Kris, you snorted the name with distaste.    For almost a month after that dinner party, you had avoided him. You felt foolish and childish, but you were only thirteen, how else were you going to react? You were worried for his well-being for God sake. Why didn't he understand that?   You felt bad for shutting the door in his face whenever he tried to explain, but at the time, you really had nothing else to say.    Until...    The day Mr. Li was murdered. According to one of your father's undercover spies, they had said that his left arm was chopped off and missing. Inscent sticks had been pushed into his eye sockets so deeply that the blood seeped out of them. His whole body was beaten and mutulated to the point the skin was literally falling off from his head to the soles of his feet. It was a tragic death and a horrible end to the Asia's best fighter.    You remembered hearing that news as you ate breakfast with your Father in the dining hall. It was a bright Wednesday morning when the news came to you. You dropped your fork instantly. Your father, on the other hand, was less than surprised as he crossed his legs and folded his newspaper. "That's a shame. He was a great fighter." He said, sipping on his herbal tea whilst flicking his cigar on the ashtray without any sign of remorse on his face. You thought you were going to fall to pieces at that moment. That was the first time you began to feel any hatred towards your father. How could he be so cruel and not feel any sympathy for the death of his p
