Never had the eyes of so many intimidated her. It had been quite the contrary; they were intimidated by her mere presence. Perhaps it was the shifting planets, but she could see the resentment in their eyes; the violence that lurked beneath their steely gaze.
Her fall had been far from that of grace. The blazing fire burned behind her lids, the smoke smothered her lungs. Angry cries and raging howls rang in her ears, never leaving, always whispering. They were always reminding her of how filthy she was, how unfit.
The trust that seemed so steadfast between her and her personal servant crumbled beneath the uproar. His betrayal slaughtered her. He had been merciless, unyielding, as he held the dagger to her skin. The scar never faded; a constant reminder of the fear that pounded through her veins.
