Not All's Fair in Love and War
Description
Korea is in a war with Japan and Japan is winning by invading all major cities in Korea. Yongin, a small village located to the south of the country's capital, Seoul, is one of the few still not under the Japanese opression. It was only a matter of time before the Japanese took over the entire country but not if the British army had anything to say about it. Being the land that they first conquered, the British will not give up Korea without a fight.
Kibum is a 19-year-old boy living in the village Yongin with his grandmother. He despises war and the army. Who wouldn't? Kibum had very specific reasons for his hate, though. It was the cruelty of the army, or particularly a group of military men, that claimed his parents' lives as he watched it happen as a five year old boy. Kibum was never the same after witnessing his parents' death and he blamed one party and one party only - the military. Because if it weren't for country leaders waging war against each other for a show of political power, Kibum would still have his parents. Hundreds of thousands would still be alive and millions more wouldn't be grieving the death of loved ones.
So what happens when Kibum finds himself falling for this stranger, who happens to be a soldier? That is not the end of it. It's a male soldier too. It was unheard of, a male falling for another male. Kibum tries as much as he could to fight off his feelings, but there is nothing much he can do when fate decides to intervene in his life in the least expected ways.
Foreword
Hello people!!!
So I got the inspiration to write this story while learning about my own country's history. Instead of concentrating on the facts about the battles that we were learning about, my brain decided to imagine romance stories in the time of war. Then, it got me wondering what it would have been like for two boys to have been in love at that time, around when WWII happened. My country used to be very conservative about boy-girl romances in the old times, much less boy-boy love. In fact, my country is still very conservative and boy-boy love is just something that is not even recognised as existing. They just ignore the fact that homouality exists and it just saddens me how close-minded people are here.
That is how the idea for this story was born. I think that everyone would agree with me that there is just something about war romance stories that makes it so special. Add a little forbidden love into the equation and you have the recipe for a lot of bawling. I want to keep this story light and fluffy, but it is set in the war times so there will be a lot of angst as well.
I understand historical drama and romance is not really a very famous genre but I'm trying this out to add a variety to the kind of stories you find on Asianfanfics. It's kind of hard to find a story that is not about high school or college here, don't you think? Also, there may be rated chapters in the future; rated for my attempt at writing , but I can't promise you that since I'll have to see how the product turns out first......

Edit (28/3/13) : I wasn't sure if I would write when I started this but now that I'm finished, I guess I must say here that I DID write and so this is Rated M for that and also because there is some gory violence (although I believe most people would be able to stomach it) in a handful of chapters. Read at your own discretion. Also ---> WARNING: CHARACTER DEATH. Otherwise, my story is pretty much... harmless (??) So hope you enjoy it... <3
