Human of the Year

Wu Fan- known by his childhood friend as Kris- is a grumpy teenager who still doesn't know where he's going with his life, and is chosen by the universe and the very stars themselves as 2012's Human of the Year. Every Human of the Year since the beginning of time has had a bright and successful future in whatever they decide to do, but the thing is, he still doesn't know what he wants due to conflicting pressure from his parents' expectations and a promise to the aforementioned childhood friend.
~When inspiration strikes, you write a quick fanfic about it! Inspiration in particular comes from Regina Spektor's song Human of the Year. Scowl-filled Kris just seemed to be the obvious choice for the Human, for some reason. It's a G-rated Alternate Universe fic, and I haven't tried anything like it before, so patience would be nice and advice even nicer.
Foreword
As we walk outside into the really-too-bright-sunshine, I groan. I still don't think I've gotten this whole "Human of the Year, you're special, fantastic, full of promise" thing down.
"What kind of priviledges would a Human of the Year get, anyway?" I ask Lu Han, skipping alongside me. I don't even know how he can have so much energy, is it just a short people thing..?
"Besides a bright and beautiful future in whatever field you decide to devote your life to?" he looks to me sarcastically. "Gee, I don't know. Bragging rights?"
"Very funny, Lulu. I just thought that somehow, becoming the Human would make me... I don't know, enlightened? Make the fog disappear, suddenly clear my mind to what I want to do with my life? Ugh... I'm going to be the universe's only useless Human of the Year. In the history of forever."
