“Hey,” Donghae broke the silence that had settled in the car.

“Hm?”

“Wanna get a dog?”

“...No?”

“Why not?”

“Why do you suddenly want a dog?” 

“They're cute and it would be fun to play with one, it would be nice for us to have some company too. Why don't you want one? You like puppies.”

Hyukjae looked away from his phone.

“We both have jobs, don't we?”

“Hm.”

“If we had a pet it would be alone most of the day.”

“Only half of the day.”

"We wouldn't be able to travel.”

“We could ask someone to take care of her.”

“Her? You already decided it’s a she?”

“A small white fluffy dog named Yuki.” 

Hyukjae stared at him for a few seconds.

“Did you already adopt her or--”

“Of course not! It's just how I imagine it would be.”

Hyukjae grimaced.

“I really don't think it's a good idea. I feel like we won't give her the attention she deserves, we don't only go to work, we also go to the gym and visit friends, you even travel some weekends to Mokpo... we would have to go walk her and bathe her... I don't know, Donghae.”

Donghae pouted while looking at the road. “Fair enough.” 

A few days later, Donghae revisited the topic while they were having dinner at home.

“You know, I've been thinking and... I want you to reconsider getting a pet.”

“Your imaginary dog named Yuki?” Donghae laughed and nodded. “Well, try me.” 

“Okay. She'll be a small dog so we don't have to worry about her getting too dirty or messing up our stuff. If we have to go out we can take her with us in the car most of the time. If we travel, there are professional caretakers we can hire. Hm... We can take her to a dog salon every other weekend to get her clean so she can cuddle with us on the couch. I can take her out for walks at night, I like walking at that time anyway."

Hyukjae raised his eyebrows. “Wow.”

“Yeah.”

“A dog salon?”

“Yeah.”

“Alright, I'll consider it.”

“Really?”

Hyukjae almost rolls his eyes at the hopeful look in his boyfriend's face. 

“Sure! But don't get excited yet.”

“Of course I'm excited, we're adopting a puppy.”

“I haven't given you an answer!”

Donghae laughed.

“I know, I know, I'm kidding.“
