THIRTEEN
C.E.O.Jessica came back to the table composed. Of course Jessica avoided any work related topic and Taeyeon had lost count of how many drinks Jessica had, but Taeyeon found herself having a good time.
Since college, Taeyeon had this idea in her head that she needed to make ‘the next big thing’ although she didn’t know what it would be. Taking on a few internships, Taeyeon learned a lot of new skills but she always had this gnawing thought that she should take back what was hers.
Eventually, Taeyeon met Sooyoung at her last internship and they quickly became friends. She told Sooyoung her life story and it was Sooyoung who urged Taeyeon to chase her dream. Being rash herself, Sooyoung jumped aboard Taeyeon’s dream with merely a thought following both of them. For a while, Sooyoung was the face of the company because she was a very good talker and always made the best impression but Sooyoung knew Taeyeon needed to take over as CEO, so after they got 3 investors signed up for their fabric start-up Sooyoung handed the reigns to Taeyeon.
Although marked as her secretary, Sooyoung acted more as the Chief Operations Officer who happened to take all of Taeyeon’s calls because Taeyeon preferred to look after the production side of the company. Slowly, Taeyeon and Sooyoung built up this company and made their move.
For these past years, Taeyeon worked day and night to achieve her goals. Birthdays were missed, dating was never thought of and the idea of sitting in the sky-deck of a fancy restaurant relaxing was not something Taeyeon was used to. It has also been a very long time since Taeyeon saw Jessica this drunk.
“I think you have had enough.”
Jessica tried to reclaim her drink that Taeyeon took but she could feel the liquor coursing through her veins making her numb.
Getting out of her seat, Taeyeon waved the waiter down and gave him a card before going over to Jessica, “We should get you home.”
Jessica tried to wrestle away from Taeyeon but she found herself too weak and let Taeyeon lead her away. However, her home was not where Taeyeon took her.
When Jessica's cognitive abilities returned, she found herself outside the door of a modest sized condo while Taeyeon played with the keys to get in, “Where am I?”
Taeyeon found the key and opened the door, “My place. You passed out as soon as you got in my car.”
Jessica looked around curiously, not something a CEO would have, “Why so small?”
Taeyeon laughed, “I am a start-up. All my money goes into the company.” Helping Jessica inside, she set her on the couch putting the manila folder on the coffee table while she got some water.
When Taeyeon returned with an extra blanket, she could see Jessica already curled into a ball sleeping. Carefully, Taeyeon put the blanket around Jessica and tucked her in a bit before sitting on the floor in front of her.
For a while, Taeyeon just stared at Jessica’s serene face and sighed, “I shouldn’t have left.”
