Dreaming

Now Playing

He was now on his way to their locker room to meet his friends before their practice. He was already in the hallway and was about to twist the doorknob when he heard them laughing loudly.

"You saw that? How he held her hand like there was no tomorrow?" Doojoon said, laughing very loud.

"Matta! Aiyoo, so lovesick," Gikwang added, making the group laugh even louder. *matta=that's right*

"I bet he still doesn't know we've been watching them the whole trip. All the more act like hands of destiny," Yoseob said.

Junhyung froze. It was them? It was them all the time? It hit his ego. Never did he believe in things such as 'meant-to-be' until the trip. What he thought was destiny was actually just his friends and their stupid pranks. Not wanting to sacrifice his ego for the entertainment of his friends, he burst in the door, laughing.

Miyeon (the bestfriend) was on her way to meet Hyunseung to give him something she has been wanting to give. Until she heard something she shouldn't have heard..

Junhyung was trying hard to fake out a laugh. And fortunately, his friends seemed to be buying it. "You actually thought I didn't know?" he said, still laughing.

His friends were silent, all looking confused. Junhyung took a seat beside Dongwoon and touched his stomah, as if it was hurting because of his laughing. "I knew the whole time!" he said. Losing the laugh-act, he said confidently, "I put on a good show, huh? You actually thought I was still that lovesick with her? Come on, you guys. You know I'm good at moving on."

"Could I disagree with the last part?" Dongwoon said.

"You know I'm the least person you should play your pranks on. It might backfire. Just like now," he laughed again.

"So, does that mean you don't love her anymore?" Yoseob asked, still confused.

"Isn't that obvious?" Junhyung asked rhetorically.

The eavesdropping was put to an end when she heard her phone ring. She immediately picked it up and ran away before she gets discovered.

"Yoboseyo?" Miyeon answered.

"Yah! I need to tell you something," she said, giddily.

"I need to tell you something, too."

"Oh, jeongmal? Keurom come here at my place!" she excitedly said. *keurom=then NOTE: this could have several meanings depending on use.*

"Arasseo. Gidaryeo," she said and hung up. *gidaryeo=wait*

Miyeon looked at the thing on her hands. "This can wait," she sighed and left to meet her bestfriend.

................................................

"But what happened next was the best part!" she said enthusiastically.

"W-wae? What happened?" Miyeon asked, pretending to be interested.

"There were fireworks! Neomu neomu yeppeuda!" she said as her eyes sparkled. "I know I should be mad at you for tricking me into going to the airport and have the trip but I just can't do that. I'm too happy to be mad at you!" she said, almost squealing. She hugged Miyeon, "Komawo, Miyeon-ah. You're really my bestfriend," she said, smiling widely. "So, what were you going to tell me?" she asked when they parted. *neomu=very; yeppeuda=pretty*

"Well.. keuge.." she hesitated. She didn't want to destroy the happiness she was feeling now. But she can't let her bestfriend get her hopes high again and just be disappointed again and have her heart broken for the billionth time. But she was a culprit, too. She was a part of the prank team. She can't tell her the situation while leaving her faults untold. She was caught in a dilemma. "I forgot," she finally said. Maybe her bestfriend will just realize it by herself. She sighed. *keuge=that*

"Tell me when you remember. Arasseo?" she said.

"A-arasseo," Miyeon answered. "__________-ah?"

"Mmmmm?"

"Hypothetically, what if one day, you suddenly realize that everything between Junhyung and you were just lies, what will you do?"

"They aren't," she confidently answered.

Miyeon's phone beeped. "Oh, my mom's already downstairs. I guess I should go home now," she said.

"Oh. Arasseo. Be careful!" she said and waved goodbye.

"I will," Miyeon said and went home feeling burdened with everything.

...............................................................

It was a Saturday morning and Junhyung kept tossing and turning on his bed. The soccer practice he had last night was supposed to be tiring enough for him to sleep but there he was, fully awake. And what kept on bothering him was the fact he came to know after hearing his friends talk about it. Everything was just a show. He can't believe it was all just his friends' crazy antics. He was ready to go back to her thinking that the whole universe wanted them to be together again but everything changed when it wasn't really the universe. But he loved her. There was no doubt about that. He just didn't trust the circumstances right now and his ego won't allow his friends to just let himself be dictated by their schemes. Stupid schemes.

...............................................................

She kept on looking at her phone. "Shouldn't he be texting me right now?" She asked herself. She waited for some more minutes, all fidgety and impatient. When she couldn't hold it in any longer, she decided to just call him herself. But all her effort was put to waste. He didn't pick up the phone. She tried remembering if he had any plans for the day but there was none she could think of. Was he just ignoring her calls then? Then she remembered the most important thing. They weren't back to being together and he had all the right to ignore her. "Pabo," she said as she lightly hit her head. *pabo=stupid, foolish*

...............................................................

"Junhyung-ah!" his mother called him.

He got up and went downstairs. "Wae eom- Nuguya?" he asked his mom, talking about the toddler she was carrying. *nuguya=who is that?*

"It's your cousin. The daughter of your father's sister," she explained.

"Oh. Annyeong," he greeted the child and smiled.

"Annyeonghaseyo," the child greeted back.

"Can you watch her for me?" his mom finally said.

"Mwo? Wae?" he asked. He didn't hate children but he wasn't fond of them either.

"I have to the market. There's a big sale there and I can't miss that. I can't bring her with me since there will be a lot of people there, too," she said.

"But-" Junhyung was trying to protest but his mom passed the child to his hands.

"Kalkke," she said. "I won't be long. Until I come back, be sure to have your eyes on her all the time. Don't worry. She's a good kid," her mother said before leaving. *kalkke=I'll go now*

Junhyung sighed. "What the hec-" he was cut again when he saw the child looking at him intently. "Wae?" he asked.

"Nothing, Oppa. You could put me down," she said.

"You sure speak well for a toddler," he said as he put her down on the couch.

She just smiled and looked around the house.

"So what do you want to do? Do you want to play?" he asked.

"Aniyo. I'll just sit here," she smiled.

Junhyung was surprised to hear it from a toddler. "How old are you?" he asked.

"5," she answered.

"Oh," was all he could say.

"Oppa?" she called.

"Wae?" he responded.

"Are you tired?" she asked.

Being sleepless, he should've said yes but surprisingly, he wasn't tired at all. "Ani. Wae?" he asked.

"Nothing. You just look like you're tired," she said. "Oppa, what do you hate the most?" she asked again.

"Well, I hate a lot of things. Dirty room, scattered things on the flo-"

"Not those kind of things, Oppa," she cut him.

"What do you mean?" he asked, totally confused.

"Well, for example, I personally hate being tricked," she said.

"You're too young. How could you say such a thing?" Junhyung asked.

"Well, just because I'm young doesn't mean I can't understand things. And just because you're a male doesn't mean you have to act cool all the time."

"Y-yah. Museunsoriya?" he asked in disbelief, pondering how a child could talk like that. *museunsoriya=what are you talking about?*

"Well, you know what I mean," she said.

"Let me ask. What do you mean by you hate being tricked?" he asked.

"Well, I hated the feeling when I discovered that there was no Santa. It was just my parents secretly giving me gifts just so I could believe that Santa exists," she said, almost complaining.

"But don't you think they were just helping you to get the things you really wanted to have?" Junhyung said.

"That's true. But why did they have to pretend to be Santa?"

"Maybe they thought you would feel more special when you think that you received the gifts from Santa himself."

"But in the end, it's all just a lie, Oppa," she said.

"But does it really matter? You got what you wanted. Why don't you just allow yourself to be happy and thank them for helping you? Instead of thinking that they lied to you, just think of it as a way to make you happy. Then enjoy the feeling of having the thing you really wished for," he said. And he himself was surprised with the words he just said.

"If that's the case, what do you really want now, Oppa?" she asked.

He was speechless for a while. Until everything went into a blur. He opened his eyes. He has dreamt strange dreams but this was the weirdest so far.

"What do you really want now, Oppa?"

Those words kept running around his head until he saw his phone. He took a look at it and saw a lot of missed calls. From ___________. And again, the words echoed again. And he realized the answer to that question. Her.

Suddenly, the dream made sense. He smiled and looked at the time. It was 3 in the afternoon. He still had time to prepare. There was no time to waste.

...............................................................

She called her bestfriend. "Miyeon-ah," she weakly said.

"What's wrong?" Miyeon asked, worried.

"My hopes have been all wrong. Oppa doesn't want to get back together with me," she sighed.

"Oh. So you already know?" Miyeon asked worriedly.

"Know what?" she asked, now confused.

"So you still don't know?" Miyeon asked back.

"Know what?" she asked again.

Miyeon had no choice now. She had to tell her the truth. She sighed. "Junhyung. What he did in Tokyo with you, all the sweetness and care was just to outprank his friends," she said.

"What? Outprank? Wae? I don't understand!" she said.

"It's our fau-"

"Jamkkan. There's a message. For a while," she said and read the message which made her even more confused.

From: Junhyung Oppa~ ♥

____________-ah~ Sorry I wasn't able to answer your calls. I was in deep sleep. I was awfully tired with our practice yesterday night. Anyway, can we meet tonight? At 7pm, in our usual restaurant. I'll be waiting for you there. ^^

She looked at the time. It was quarter to 6. She resumed talking to her bestfriend. "That can't be true. Oppa's asking me to meet him right now," she said.

"It's true. Believe me. I heard him tell his friends that it was all just a show. And please, ___________-ah. Don't go. I don't want you to get hurt and be those bastards' object of entertainment," her bestfriend pleaded.

She was really surprised with what she has found out. Was it fun playing with her? How could she be stupid all over again? How could she believe? "Nappeun namja," she said as tears streamed down her face. *nappeun=bad; namja=boy/man*

"_____________-ah? ___________-ah?" her bestfriend on the other line called her.

But she was now trapped in her heartbreak that she couldn't utter anything. She hung up and threw her phone on the floor. She just covered herself with the sheets and curled up like a fetus, feeling the pain her heart was suffering from. With all the pain she has experienced, she wondered why there was no immunity to heartbreaks. Why a girl like her who only knew how to love kept on receiving punishments she never deserved to have.

She promised herself that this shall be the last night she'll shed her tears for him. He who did nothing but play with her. Meet him tonight? She scoffed in between her sobs. Never will she play his games anymore.

...............................................................

Junhyung smiled as he looked at the dimly-lit room he was in now. With the petals scattered on the floor, a small round table with a candle on the center and roses around it. He fixed his tie and wrote a mental note to thank his friends after that night. He looked around once again and laughed to himself. He wasn't the type of guy to do all these things and he swore never shall he do all the cheesy stuffs he watched on corny romantic movies and shows. But here he was, standing, waiting for the girl he offers all of those for. He walked an extra mile and did all these because he knows these was what she wanted. He smiled as he imagined her reaction upon seeing all of those things.

He looked at his watch and saw that it was already 15 minutes. But he thought she might just be late for a few minutes and decided to sit. But minutes turned into hours. It was already 9PM and she still wasn't there. He already decided to call her but he just heard the operator telling him she can't be reached.

But he didn't waver. He waited for her. And waited. And waited.

[A/N] OMONA~ It has been a long time since I've updated and I'm truly truly truly sorry. :(((( I really wanted to write but everytime I'd try to start, my conscience keeps on reminding me the papers and projects that I need to complete. Mianhae~

And sorry if this wasn't a good chapter. I admit, because it's been a long time since the last update, I kind of lost the feeling. But just a teeny weeny bit. After I have finished this chapter, I have regained that lost feeling but then again, I still have a scrapbook to make and final exams to study for next week so yeah. But I promise to update A LOT after this week. I proooomiiiiiise~ So until then, please bear with me. Komawo~

Also, I wasn't planning to give the bestfriend a name since I was planning to give her a back story with one of the boys but it was pretty difficult to refer to a nameless bestfriend without confusing the main character with her. So I just decided to give her a name. :3

Added some translations of Korean phrases as requested. And I think I'll keep doing it with all my fics for everybody's convenience. Sorry if I haven't thought of it earlier! :3 Thanks to rxlouise for the idea! :)
