Once Upon A Time
A Collection of Jung Nicole One shotsOnce upon a time....
"Donghae-oppa will be your friend now." Nicole's mother presented a handsome young boy in front of her, even younger, daughter.
"No!! I want a PRETTY DOLL!" the young girl cried and threw a tantrum.
"Nicole-" her mom sighed.
The young boy walked up to her and bowed 90 degrees.
Nicole's tears and screams slowly stopped.
"I'm sorry I can't be a doll, but I can be like one."
Nicole confusingly looked at him.
"I'll be your doll."
In the eyes of other people, Jung Nicole is spoiled and childish.
"Jung Nicole is that girl that only hangs out with the really cute guy, right?" a girl whispered.
"Yeah, they're not even friends. He's paid to hang out with her." her friend unconsciously said a little louder.
"You should confirm that with me first." the two girls heard a voice from the distance. Both of them turned around surprised and scared.
Nicole smiled, "Yeah, he's paid."
"S-sorry."
"No, don't say sorry. At least I know why. Most people will hang out with each other under their own conditions.." Nicole continued to smile.
"..whether people know it or not." Nicole wiped the smile off her face. "That's what you two are doing right now. You both agreed that it's okay to talk about someone behind their back. That's what makes you guys close friends, right? What a nice bond." Nicole's voice sounded nothing but scary to the two girls. She held her hand up and slapped both of the girls.
Under his eyes, she is lonely.
"Your words can hurt them."
"They deserved it." Nicole gritted her teeth.
"Deserved what?" Donghae kept relaxed.
"The truth!" Nicole shouted.
"It's not the truth when you say it out of defense and anger." Donghae calmly retorted.
"Yes it is!" Nicole balled up her hands into a fist.
Donghae smiled, "You're right."
That is how far she can go.
Nicole quickly teared up at his response, "Agreeing with me, again."
"What do you want me to say?" he kept the smile on his face.
Nicole ran out.
He heard her fast footsteps grow farther and farther away from him before hearing a loud door slam.
Lone fights and always defending herself, again.
Other people saw Lee Donghae as considerate and mature.
"It's her last entrance ceremony in high school, so I'll make sure she doesn't miss it." Donghae reassured.
"Thank you, Donghae." Nicole's mom smiled over the phone.
"Have a good trip." Donghae hung up the phone.
"Geez, what's so important about entrance ceremonies?"
"It's when the teachers and principal give speeches. All students must be there."
"I asked what is so important about it." Nicole strictly repeated.
"Mandatory attendance is important." Donghae said.
Nicole sighed.
Perfect answers is the only thing he knows.
She saw his lost expressions.
Nicole ran to Donghae as fast as she can. She needed him after the worst day she had in school.
"Why won't you take business as your major, Donghae-ah?" A friend suggested.
"I'm fine with any major."
"Dude, don't you have any dreams? Actually, that's too much. Do you want ANYTHING? Why are always so wishy-washy?" Another friend asked.
"Sorry." Donghae smiled.
She looked at Donghae from a far.
Smiling and blank expressions was all he can do to express himself.
They understood each other, but couldn't understand themselves.
Nicole walked into the cafe.
Donghae immediately spotted Nicole and got up.
"I'll see you guys." Donghae grabbed his backpack and walked over to Nicole. He examined her messy hair and her dishelved school uniform.
"Oppa. I was right. I know I was. Those girls.." Nicole fought back the tears.
"Don't cry." Donghae took off his school sweater and handed it to her. "I understand."
Nicole managed to stop the tears and put his sweater on.
Until he realized that his weakness was her.
"Nicole." Donghae knocked on her door for the hundredth time.
No answer.
Donghae let out a heavy sigh. As more years past she gets even farther. Donghae kept knocking.
"I'm fine." a faint voice came from her room.
Her answer surprised him for the first time, "W-what?"
"I said I'm okay."
Donghae panicked and kept trying to turn the door knob, "Open this door."
He put his ear to her door and heard light crying.
It was okay when she cried in front of him. It was okay if she screamed at him. He was fine with all of it.
"I'm going to break down this ing door if you don't open it in
