chapter XII: outer side
the aster and the sunflower.Next stop.
After tons of pictures and cat cuddling, Jennie was finally able to convince Lisa to go to their next stop of their date, but of course they dropped by the hospital to visit Ella for a little bit, Lisa staying behind to avoid any arguments if ever the Kim’s were in a bad mood. Then they were now inside Jennie’s car, Lisa was grinning as she looked at the photos Jennie had taken, and Jennie couldn’t help but glance at Lisa all the damn time.
“We’re gonna get into an accident if you keeping looking at me, Jen” Lisa said
Jennie blushed as she cleared and focused on the road.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” Jennie said in a “cool” way
“You were staring” Lisa pointed out teasingly
“No I wasn’t” Jennie denied
“Should I play Passenger Seat?” Lisa continued to tease
“First of all, what kind of song is that? Secondly, if you don’t stop teasing then I’m not feeding you” Jennie said as she rolled her eyes
“First of all, you need to listen to more music, and I’m not teasing you, I’m just stating facts here” Lisa said
Jennie just rolled her eyes but she was smiling at the young one. And in all honesty, this is how Jennie sees her life in the future years; her driving around with a certain florist beside her who would constantly and make her happy and love her no matter what. Jennie hopes this is really how her future plays out because she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“We’re here” Jennie said as she turned off the engine
Lisa looked outside the window and gasped at where they were.
“Is this an Arcade?” Lisa asked
Jennie grinned and nodded happily.
“It’s actually an 80’s Arcade, like the one in Stranger Things, you know? And since I really wanted to incorporate your likes and my likes together on this date, I decided to bring you here. It’s old school for your liking and it involves nothing but video games for my liking. It’s also a great place to take pictures, so I guessed we would both love it here” Jennie explained
“I love how you wanted this day to be about us, and I love that you really put enough thought and effort into this date” Lisa said as she held Jennie’s hand
Jennie just chuckled and blushed; they then made their way out of Jennie’s car.
“So did you like have a whole cork board of ideas of where to bring me?” Lisa asked as she wiggled her eyebrows
“No, you idiot” Jennie as she shoved Lisa playfully. I mean, of course she would never tell Lisa that she had bought red markers and had stationary papers pinned on her cork board as she wrote out all the ideas she could come up with on it.
The place was called ‘Outer Side’, it was old, a bit retro but more on the nerdy side, painted with different hues of blue as its exterior and tons of spaceships and aliens as its main design. It truly did make you want to go back in time when kids back in circa 1983 would hang around here and play Dungeons and Dragons with the coins they’ve stolen from their older sister’s piggy bank (mind you, only stranger things fans will get this reference).
Lisa just chuckled and ruffled Jennie’s hair, the smaller one groaned and continued to shove Lisa but they were soon noticed by a lanky old man, probably in his late 80’s already, he was wearing a long sleeved pink and white striped polo tucked in his baggy slacks and pointed leather shoes. He sort of looked like someone who works in an ice cream shop. His name is Timothy Anderson, he had been working here for almost 8 decades already, and Jennie had often come here whenever her cousin Jiyong would visit New York and take her on little adventures. It was what really made Jennie into video games.
“Hello there” Timothy said as he enveloped the smaller girl in a hug
“You haven’t visited in such a long time Nini” Timothy said
Jennie whined at the nickname, Timothy and Lisa just chuckled at her childish acts.
“Mr. Anderson, as much as I’ve missed you, I still can’t believe you just used that nickname in front of my date” Jennie said through gritted teeth.
Timothy actually knows of Jennie’s ual preference, she was never ashamed of it anyways, even though her parents had abandoned her and disowned her because of it, didn’t mean Jennie would hide it just because two of the most important people in her life refused to accept her, Jennie would gladly live out and free by being herself. Luckily Timothy’s been quite aware of Jennie’s preference since her last visit to Outer Side was back when she had graduated college, she was with Jiyong only because Ella had gotten sick that time and their cousin just wanted to bring Jennie out here for fun, Timothy had joined them and talked with them all day long, and when Jiyong finally wanted to go home, Timothy told Jennie something that Jennie has instilled in her heart ever since.
“Go out and seize the day and never let anyone get in your way. Continue to love anyone you want, no one’s the boss of you, only you get to decide”
Jennie was snapped back to reality when Timothy chuckled.
“Well who is this date of yours anyways?” Timothy asked
“I’m Lisa Manoban, Sir” Lisa said as she extended
