Chapter 13

Seulgi

“Stupid, stubborn, stupid boy.” Seulgi muttered under her breath as she jumped out of her bedroom window. She landed with a soft thud in the grass below and, deciding that this was as good a place as any to sulk, sat down.

“I cannot believe he banished me from the flat.” She whispered, plucking a small, pearly white flower mid rant. Okay, so maybe Sehun hadn’t actually said anything that implied he wanted Seulgi to leave. Come to think of it, Sehun hadn’t said anything at all. For days. Three days, 16 hours, and 35 minutes, to be exact. Not that she was counting the minutes or anything.

She tore a petal off of the flower she was holding, detaching it from its too-green stem.

But Sehun had forced her to leave. He had taken his delivery of the silent treatment to such an extent that he wouldn’t even respond to Seulgi’s polite and definitely not cliché attempts at making small talk. “So, that’s some nice weather we’re having, yeah?” “Picked up any new hobbies, lately?” “How’s work?” Sehun responded to all of these comments by striding into the bathroom, slamming the door shut, and turning on the shower. Maybe the real problem was that his flat mate had a pathological fear of germs. She sighed. A girl can hope, okay?

She plucked another petal from the flower. He loves me. In all reality, the flat had become stifling over the past few days. Even when she was in a different room, she could still feel the weight of Sehun’s forced silence weighing down upon her. It was as if she lived inside of some highly pressurized bubble that followed her around the apartment, relentlessly threatening to suffocate her at any given moment. All because her of a partner refused to stop being such a stupid boy. She crushed the next petal between her fingers and watched as the tiny white fragments spun lazily to the ground. He loves me not.

Seulgi raked an agitated hand through her hair. It felt coarse, warped into a tangled mess by the stress which had resulted in her uncharacteristic inattention to her appearance. Okay so maybe Sehun was right, maybe this wasn’t all his fault. After all, Sehun couldn’t help that Seulgi had broken all of the rules and fallen in love with him. Seulgi balled her hands into fists. However, that still did not give Sehun the right to call her out like that, to insinuate that Seulgi had been the one to cause the problem that had so obviously wedged its way between them. To assert that the love she felt for Sehun was at fault and merited the silent treatment. It was callous, callous and inexcusable. He loves me.

Maybe love was too strong a word for what she felt for Sehun. She felt something, yes, but maybe what she was experiencing was just a crush, a tiny insignificant crush that had been dramatically blown out of proportion when Sehun had walked into their flat the morning after the lemonade debacle. He had walked in with the sun rising behind him, all shadowed panes and golden-fringed locks. At that moment what person wouldn’t have convinced herself that she was in love with Oh freaking Sehun, dorky Adonis extraordinaire? But it had just been a literal trick of the light, yet another one of Mother Nature’s myriad attempts to reclaim her throne as the sassiest sovereign the universe had ever seen. Well she could take a freaking number and wait for her to grow tired of living the royal life. She wasn’t in love with Sehun, despite the world’s attempts to make her think otherwise. Hell, she didn’t even care if her miniscule crush was reciprocated.

Seulgi ripped the last petal off of the flower. He loves me not.

“!” She jumped to her feet and threw the petal-less stem to the ground.

“Stupid flowers and stupid boys. Stupid boys and stupid flowers. Everything stupid.” She muttered to herself as she stood on her tip toes and tried to pull herself gracefully back inside her bedroom window.
