“What is this?”
“Uh, your celebratory dinner…”
“For?”
“You finding a job!”
“And what is this again?”
“Food! Celebratory dinner, I just said it.”
“Im Nayeon, you call this food?” Mark pointed at the spread on the table, glancing at it for a brief moment then back at Nayeon. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something but instead, he facepalmed and sighed.
“Nayeon…”
She smiled nervously.
“Nayeon ah…” He sighed again then pointed at a plate on the table. “Please tell me, what is this?”
“Kimchi pancake!”
He can’t help it but let out a quiet laugh at her enthusiasm, shaking his head at the same time as he held up the charcoaled so-called kimchi pancake to her.
“Be honest, will you eat this?”
She gave him a slight hesitant nod.
He narrowed his eyes at her.
She shook her head finally and gave him a sheepish smile, taking the plate from him and put it back on the table.
“I tried making your favourite food.” Nayeon muttered softly, picking up the fork and poked on a random plate. “You’ve been so stressed because of this. I just want to see you smile again so.”
Mark watched the younger girl for a while before picking up the other fork and cut a small piece from that plate of kimchi pancake, giving her a soft smile before eating it.
She kept her eyes on him as he chewed with a hint of both surprise and anticipation as she watched him chew on it.
“So…”
“It tastes like burnt charcoal.” He cut her off then laughed a little at her disappointed look before he reached out his hand and ruffled her hair.
“I haven’t finished my sentence.” He smiled again then patted her head gently. “I also tasted something sweet.”
“Did I add a lot of sugar by mistake?”
Mark laughed again and shakes his head.
“There’s a special ingredient called Nayeon’s sincerity, thank you. Also, clear this up, I will do the cooking.
“Really?”
“Yes really,” He gave her a look and nodded as he rolled up his sleeves. “It has always been like this anyway, you’re better at washing the dishes. What do you want to eat?”
“Your favourite food.” She stacked the plates and followed him into the kitchen. “There are a lot of ingredients because I didn’t know how to estimate the quantity and bought a little too much.”
“That’s normal when it’s you.”
“Shut it.”
“Alright alright. Forgive me, ma’am.”
“I’m staying over by the way.”
“I know.”
