Childish Wishes

A Drive Down Memory Lane

Jimin sat on a wooden bench in the park with his back resting against a large oak tree. He was staring out into the open area at the fresh snow that had fallen the night before. It had just begun to melt.

You know what happens when the snow melts? He could hear the sound of Jungkook's voice ringing in the back of his mind. Well, it melts into spring! It’s a new beginning. Even if Jungkook was a little odd sometimes, it was the small things that he missed the most.

Jimins thoughts were broken when he saw a dirty orange ball roll through the snow. It stood out against the frozen tundra. He bent forward to pick it up, searching for the owner. When he saw the young boy running over, Jimin smiled and held out the ball for him.

“Thank you mister,” the young boy bowed before taking his ball, he began running down the field, his hat nearly blowing off. Jimin gave a wave to the man he presumed to be the kid’s father. He let his hand fall, his eyes following. His thumb brushed over the grainy, moist, dirt that was on his fingers.

I need to wash my hands…

“I think your plant pooped on me,” Jimin stood in the middle of MoonRi’s new kitchen.

The smell of fresh paint and dust penetrated the air while boxes littered the halls. Jimin’s fingers rubbed the small amount of dirt into his thumb which allowed him to feel each individual grain scratch against his skin.

“What?” MoonRi looked over at her friend, a slight baffled look on her face. She was in the middle of unpacking a box labeled ‘plates’, used newspapers utilized for packing were stuffed in the box at her feet. “I am pretty sure plants do not poop. Do they?” Just as she asked, a sweaty Yoongi walked through the archway who was soon followed by a tall male, carrying a box in his arms. Yoongi set it on the table, looking confused at the two.

Sliding a hand through his raven hair, Yoongi shrugged, “Well, I mean, oxygen is plant waste, so in theory you’re breathing plant poop. But also they let out water and saps, so those would be poop too.” The man casually responded, leaving two people baffled and slightly disturbed and one proud.

“Why do you know that?” MoonRi responded in a rather cautious manner, “I think you have been spending too much time with Namjoon.” To the mention of his name, the tall male held up his hands in defense, a broad grin adorning his face accompanied with adorable dimples.

“Your boyfriend is weirder than my husband,” Jimin let out a snort of a laugh after having washed off his hands. He let the plant sit on the window just above the sink, allowing it to soak in the sun’s rays.

“I am not weird, not in the slightest.” Jungkook entered the room, his messy hair already sticking to his forehead from the act of moving the boxes up the stairs. He grabbed a water from the cooler before tossing two to Yoongi and Namjoon.

“What’s in this mysterious box, that has no label?” Namjoon attempted to grab the flying bottle, yet it slipped from his grasp and flew into the hallway, the puppy of a man chasing after it.

“Oh! Those were Yoongi’s sisters, she said she wanted to donate some things, and I said I would take them down for her.” Jimin and Jungkook, being the nosy couple they were, begun sifting through the box. Pulling out odd things here and there.

“This is so cute!” Jimin laughed and held up two little baby booties, accompanied by a wool hat. The box was full of an array of items. Mostly toys and clothes for newborns and toddlers. Yoongi began peeking into the colorful box, chuckling and playfully putting a baby bib around Jungkook's neck.

The adults, who for a moment seemed like small children, were having fun taking a break from their hard work. Namjoon could only watch in amusement, being the only parent in the room this wasn't his first time around such items. Jimin had become infatuated by the small little clothes. He and MoonRi had begun folding the small outfits neatly, every so often the two squealed about a cute design. There were small animals, funny sayings, and just simply adorable patterns. Yoongi and Jungkook had found themselves goofing off with little toys for toddlers.

“I want a baby,” Jimin hummed quietly while putting away the things into the box.

“Boy or girl?” MoonRi asked in genuine curiosity, Jungkook looking up from his light up toy.

“Girl, I think, or a boy, maybe both,” Jimin gave her a shrug before Yoongi's deep chuckle interrupted them.

“Isn’t that something you should discuss with your husband and not your best friend?” Yoongi's hand came up to rub against Jungkook's back, pretending to comfort the confused male.

“Well, do you want kids?” MoonRi asked Jungkook, her eyes curious.

“I don’t know, I never really thought about it before.” Jungkook gave a light shrug before glancing at his husband. “So you want a little girl? Aren’t girls high maintenance?” Jungkook barely had time to deflect the wad of newspaper aimed at his head. Yoongi only laughed and high fived his girlfriend, who was clearly outnumbered. “What? Isn’t Mia high maintenance? And Minji?” His attention turned to Namjoon.

“Yes- but that’s different. Mia was abused and Minji has seizures. To say they’re high maintenance because they are girls would ignore the true reason they're high maintenance. All my kids are high maintenance, but Jin and I knew this going into the foster care business.” Namjoon looked at Jungkook, the younger gaze rather expecting. “Okay, yes, in terms of them being girls they’re very high maintenance. Do you know how many times I’ve had to dress up as a princess for tea parties?” The group couldn't help but laugh at the idea of Namjoon in a dress.

“Yes, I want a girl.” Jimin chuckled in response, “Luna would be a cute name too,” Jimin nodded his head and Jungkook let out a sarcastic snort.

“Yes, and then we will adopt six cats. Fitzgerald, George, Bernard, Leonardo, Mrs. Snuffkins, oh, and don’t forget Franky.” He laughed as he had to dodge another ball of paper, this one coming from his, “plan ahead” husband.

“Okay, okay. But think, I am still a child myself, I can’t take care of a small potato that cries and poops.” MoonRi couldn’t help but nod in response to the young man's statement, glancing back over at Jimin. “And besides there is no need to plan so far ahead,”

“Fine, but I still want a kid,” Jimin nodded his head and he glanced into the box, “one day.” He added to soothe his husband. Mirroring the loving smile he received from the younger male.

The group slowly began to return the items to the box, as they messed with a few as they went in. Jimin laughed while trying to wiggle on mittens that were only the size of one of his fingers.

           My hands are cold…

Jimin blew warm air against the palms of his hands, oh how badly he wished he would have remembered to bring himself gloves. Jimin stood and he shoved his icy fingers into his pockets.

           He normally warms my fingers…

Lately Jimin had been spending his nights in their own home, yet tonight he wanted to see him. He wanted his hands to be warmed. He wanted to hear his childish laugh.

There were lots of things the boy wanted.

Yet only by the miracle of Jungkook waking will any of his wishes be fulfilled.

     2 Months

Will I have to wish on a star?
