Leandra didn’t realize how tired she was until her dinner break came and she was off of her feet.
It was nearly midnight, almost two hours past her scheduled dinner time, when she finally left the floor; someone had called out suddenly and she and the rest of the people scheduled had been juggling breaks to keep the floor covered at all times – Leandra could only imagine how many miles she had walked in six hours.
Though the casino floor, clubs and bars were lively, the restaurants and kitchens had died down significantly. Only a few cooks were in the main kitchen, doing room service orders when Leandra went in to get dinner; they called out to her in casual greeting as she walked in and one of them took her order before returning to their tasks, leaving her to take a seat at the island and wait for her food to be prepared. “That’s funny,” the chef called out as he left, catching Leandra’s attention. “I’ve never seen him take orders from anyone before.”
“I’ve never seen anyone try to give him an order before,” called another chef. Leandra frowned in protest.
“It wasn’t an order…”
“Right, right…”
She finished what was left of her meal while the chefs finished preparing Atsushi’s; when it was finished she was already ready to go, taking the rolling cart that the meal w
