Before - Bonds

Rosé found it hard to concentrate which was an oddity for. Her focus on something other than school work and grades. her eyes darted over to Yoongi. What was he writing? His sketchbook was a flurry of movement, his face held in a gaze of intense thought. However, she lacked the perception of an eagle, the ability to read what he was writing. To unfold the secrets that lay underneath Yoongi's skin.

That left her with one simple bold move.

"Whatcha writing there Suga?" She asked a curious smile plastered on her face. Their friendship was much closer after that night at his place. He obviously considered her a close friend. Which made it all the more surprising when he hid the pages from her purview as he continued writing.

"Words," he remarked with a particularly wry smile. He was writing lyrics per the usual not that she needed to know that. Ideas had been coming to him in greater magnitudes than before he met her.

"Come on give me a look Yoongi," she pleaded with her soft eyes. Ugh, he couldn't really stop himself from putting the book down on the table and getting up for a walk. After all, he hated being around for when people read his stuff. Watching in anticipation as their face said it all. Hoping and praying that it was something good.

He couldn't help but laugh as he left though, without his notepad surprisingly.

She stared at him as he slowly walked off. Her eyes knitting together in confusion. Was she supposed to open his notebook? After some minor deliberation, she decided that it was probably the best move. After all, she could always say she didn't read it.

Her eyes flicking through the pages as she found blank page after blank page. Which honestly confused her more after all he'd been writing in merely moments ago. Finally, she came upon a page with writing on it.

Git Gud.

Two simple words if you could even call them that. She couldn't help but scream his name in frustration.

"Suga!" He heard her voice echo through the campus. A smile spreading across his face. However, at that moment, his eyes locked with a certain Jennie Kim. Seconds felt like hours as she scanned over him.

A weird sort of vulnerability washing over him as he quickly snapped his eyes forward. His pace quickening in response to her attention.

Had Rosé said something to her? Is that why? She probably thought he was a piano playing weirdo.

His feet were on autopilot as he found himself on the basketball court. A place that'd seen him through many bad times. Well at least until his vision became worse.

It was the semifinals back when he was in middle school when he felt a head-splitting pain in his head. His vision blurring as he fell from a three-point shot. Injured his ankle taking him out from the rest of the season.

A frown settling onto his face as he picked up a nearby ball. His hands gripping its firmness, his hands dribbling it out of habit.

She strode down the halls with a quickened pace. Where had he gone? She'd have to admit he did get her pretty good with that move. Having no idea where his trail lead she decided to ask someone where she'd last seen him.

"Hey, have you seen Suga?" She asked her head tilting to the side. Her eyes scanning over the person in front of her.

"Suga?" Jennie replied in confusion. She'd heard the younger girl yell out that name earlier but she didn't know the face it belonged to.

Rosé laughed in response to forgetting that not everyone used that nickname for Yoongi. "My bad Jen. Min Yoongi?" She offered. "Black hair, glasses, looks moody all the time?"

"Ah, yeah I saw him earlier. It was kinda weird seeing him with a smile on his face," she said with a smile on her face. "Not in a bad way. He was headed to the basketball court I believe."

"Thanks!" She thanked as she left the older girl only to pause for a second. "You should join music class." She stated, turning towards the girl.

If she was honest it surprised her. After all, she'd like to think that she'd been good at hiding her secret practice sessions. "...I'll think about it," she responded mulling it over in her head.

"Well, I hope you do because I'd be glad to actually share a class with you. Plus I know someone who could help you with piano," she said with her signature bright smile as she left.

Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad?

Rosé found herself stumbling into the basketball court in no time. Her eyes watched Yoongi's form as he shot hoop after hoop with a practised meticulous ease. However, it would seem she wasn't the only one watching. Her eyes shifted to the male in front of her.

Bobby.

He looked proud and overall pleased seeing Yoongi with a basketball in his hand.

"You know you could talk to him?" She offered without a second thought. Her mind flashing back to her conversation with Yoongi at his place. "...Instead of you know, lurking in the shadows."

His head turning to her his mouth agape. He seemed surprised that someone else had found him. "I... ah, I dunno Chaeyoung. He's grown distant from me recently." He pointed out with a weak shrug.

She couldn't help but smile in response. "He said the same thing about you too you know. We both know he isn't gonna step in first."

He lifted up a hand to offer a point as his mouth opened. Only for it to close and falter as he thought about it. "You're right Chaeyoung," he responded with a weak smile. However, a question was on the tip of his tongue but he thought better.

At least for now.

She couldn't help but smile as she watched them talk and then go a couple of rounds on the court. She was surprised at Yoongi's ability to keep up with Bobby given his smaller frame. However keeping up didn't mean he was close to winning. He did, however, close the gap every so often with a couple of three-pointers here and there.

She moved closer and onto one of the bleachers as Yoongi growled in frustration as Bobby laughed. Despite his frustration, he did seem to be having fun. She watched on as he discarded his glasses with a hint of worry.

Bobby was surprised to see him remove his glasses. Something Yoongi hadn't done in a long time probably because he had no reason to nowadays.

Surely it wouldn't make too much of a difference. After all, this wasn't an anime or anything plus he'd gotten a lot better than Yoongi since middle school.

However, as Yoongi swam past his defence in an instant getting through like every gap like flowing water he knew this was going to be tough. Despite what he'd said to Yoongi about not going easy on him he had been. So he quickly went through his practised movements for when he was backed against the wall.

He was thankful to repel Yoongi's relentless assault. Even if he expended more energy than he'd like to admit. He'd managed to even go on the counter-offensive getting a few hoops as a result.

Too bad it could only last so long. Yoongi matching and countering his moves perfectly. It would seem his earlier failures were due to his inability to react as he'd planned. Something Bobby had forgotten with Yoongi being their manager was he knew all of their moves.

"Honestly I didn't expect it'd take me so long to follow my counterplan properly," Yoongi remarked with a cocky smile as he blew past Bobby with the ball. Bobby's body ached as he attempted to catch up while Yoongi didn't look any worse for wear.

However, after Yoongi scored what Bobby swore would be the final hoop he paused grasping his glasses. Bobby slumped onto the floor beside him obviously puffed. "That'll be it for me today. I can feel a migraine coming on." He said with a smile as he put his glasses back on.

Rosé quickly rushed over to Yoongi only to be stopped midway. "Where do you think you're going without saying hello to me," he said with a twisted grin, the look of it sending a shiver down her spine. It would seem the male had brought a couple of friends with him.

She stood frozen in confusion. What the hell was this dude trying to pull?

"Name's Joohyuk," He offered as he moved closer to you.

"Her name is off creep," Yoongi said with a perfectly aimed throw to his face. Giving the rotten apple a bleeding nose. The anger in his eyes flaring up as he watched Yoongi's cocky smile.

"Who do you think you are?" He bellowed at Yoongi his friends ready to move at any given notice. His hand wiping off the blood dripping down his nose.

"Good looking compared to you right now," Yoongi laughed in response before pausing. "Scratch that good looking compared to you ever." He taunted.

Joohyuk howled in anger as he rushed towards Yoongi with fist raised. However, before his fist could connect Yoongi ducked as Bobby came toppling over the top of him. His foot connecting with Joohyuk's face causing him to stumble back. His face turning into a scowl as his boys rushed forward to join the fray. Bobby quickly grabbed Yoongi's forearm with a firm grip as he swung him to reach Joohyuk with a follow-up kick. Knocking the rotten apple out as his head collided with the floor.

"You grab Chaeyoung I've got these guys," he said with his sweet smile as he cracked his knuckles. Despite their recent distance, he had completely complete trust in the younger male. So he obeyed and ran towards Chaeyoung and grabbed her by the hand.

The last thing her eyes took in was Bobby burning through them like a flame through paper. His aggresive fighting style dismantling whatever defences they had.

"Me and Bobby used to get into a bit of trouble when we were younger," he explained as he sipped on his black coffee. She was still surprised at the amount of coordination between the two.

"It was weird seeing you so cocky for once," she pointed out noting the confidence he didn't typically have in a social situation.

"Me and Bobby call it hammer and anvil. Kind of got the idea when we used to play rpgs when we were younger. The anvil is typically the tank who draws their attention. Then they get hit by the hammer which is usually the glass cannon. Ironic given the fact that Bobby can take a punch while I can't." He said with a laugh.

She chuckled as a realization crossed her mind. Despite his nerdy appearance his cocky swagger meant he walked a thin line between a nerd and bad boy.

"What's so funny Rosé?" He asked.

"It's... Nothing," She said with a smile.  "I didn't realise you were that good at Basketball."

"Back in middle school they said if I kept up with it I probably would've got a scholarship," he added with a frown before putting at his glasses. "But these got in the way."

"That's too bad," she said softly her frown matching his. Before a smile appeared on her face yet again. "Did I tell you that Jennie might be joining music class. No doubt that Mr. Lee will make you tutor her."

The look of pure bewilderment and then embarassment had Rosé smiliing ear to ear. "Hah!" She said with obvious excitement and joy. "That's for earlier today!"

He couldn't help but laugh in response. It was pretty funny seeing her so happy with herself beaming with pride.

"You have to admit I got you good," he said with a smile. She did wonder how he pulled it off though after all he had been writing. Sensing her confusion he decided to show her.

Pulling out his notebook and his pen he the hidden blacklight to show some odd words.

"I can't believe someone used invisble ink after preschool," she said with obvious surprise.

While he wouldn't admit it. It was the first time he had shown even a fraction of his notes to anyone. He believed he had found a good friend in Rosé. A smile crossing his face as he gave her the pen to look over his notes. His eyes crossing over every feature on her face. The way her smile curved with happiness at the offer of the pen. The way her eyes twinkled seeing such a recluse part of his soul in his words.

Before she could say anything he spoke up. "Let's go do something fun," he said with a soft smile.

Her eyes focusing on his gummy smile. "Sure thing," she said with a warm smile.

They had a fun day exploring malls and the like even if at the expense of their classes that day. She truly had fun with him it was nice to relax and be herself around someone. It probably helped he was more focused on not being an idiot himself to really care about her being dorky.

If anything he encouraged it when he started photo bombing other people's photos with dorky faces. Their day eventually lead to the arcade. Much like Yoongi had predicted she kicked his thoroughly despite her lack of knowledge sometimes.

Which was surprising since it was something he prided himself on. Which brought further surprised when she'd perfected him three times in a row on a fighting game.

"Are you sure you're not lying about not playing before?" He exclaimed in surprise to which she responded with a soft giggle.

"No, Yoongi I gurantee that I've never played a fighting game let alone been in an arcade before," she said with a laugh. Watching his face scrunch up in despair at every loss was one of the funniest things.

"Damn Rosé you're a prodigy," he said with a smile as he got up from the game cabinet. There was something he'd had his eyes on when they were shopping earlier that he wanted to get.

"Where are we going Suga?" She asked as she followed after him.

"I thought I should grab something," he responsed with a teasing smile as he rounded a corner.

"What kind of thing?"

"A thing," he teased with his gummy smile as he explored a store. From what she could see it was a jacket store with various patchs and paints to customise things. She'd been to similar stores before to customise her denim jacket she was currently wearing.

He quickly returned with a bag which made her curious to its contents. To which he slowly revealed to be matching music symbol patchs. She was surprised at the gesture, pleased but surprised.

Her eyes welled up slightly at the gesture after all Yoongi seemed far from the affectionate kind of friend.

"Come let's go put these on music buddy."

The story's so good!! Relationship dynamics between YG and Rosé are so well-explored. Is there going to be a next chapter soon? :)
