Before - Rosé

Dominion

There are finite moments in his life. Few that would come to define him and his future. As well as the future of others around him. He believed moving Seoul was probably the biggest one. Having to worry about keeping his own life afloat while worrying about his social life and academic life.

However what he thinks was a truly defining moment of his life was when he met Park Chaeyoung or otherwise known as Roseanne. To whom he'd come to fondly know as Rosé. One of his firmest friendships that he would cherish dearly. At least for a time.

He remembers it firmly and with a hint of anguish. Her strawberry blonde hair drifting into his view at the beginning of music class. A sense of both wonder and excitement flowing through him at the sight of a new student. In a music class no doubt.

After all, most people that studied here were known for work in the academic arts. Far less ventured into the creatives. Even then many did it to for their resume after high school.

He smiled at her tentatively. After all, he wasn't that social due in part to the fact he was an introvert. But he just knew that she'd make a welcome addition to his life.

There were few people in class today. Due in fact to them preferring to use their music to prep for an upcoming Korean exam. Which Yoongi was well prepped for.

As a result, she came to him when the teacher said to pair up with whomever. It would seem she had heard from their teacher that he was decent at the piano. The only reason he seemed to get sub-par marks was due to his vocals. Which he honestly didn't care about. But perhaps it was a blessing in disguise?

"I heard you're good at piano," She said a polite smile gracing her face. It only seemed to cause him to tense up as a result. He didn't exactly get much attention from people of the opposite gender. So he supposed he wasn't quite used to it.

He adjusted his glasses nervously. "I guess you could say that," He said with an attempt at returning a smile. His nerves stabbing at his brain. "Would you like to hear?"

"I would love to," There was that smile again. He knew she was just being polite but he couldn't help but want to see it more. truly

He was lucky that music just came to him. Like each note was preordained in his brain. His hands gliding over the keys and flowing like a river so silky smooth. Honestly, he had an addiction to this feel. It's what allowed him to stay sane.

A smile graced his face as he felt his life's pressure was off of him, even if just for now.

"Wow, you're pretty good..." She said with a look of surprise as his last note sauntered through the air. He could but get lost a little bit in the moment. He, however, realised she paused to ask for his name.

"Min Yoongi," He muttered awkwardly as he felt his nerves press back down on his shoulders. He turned his head to the side to avoid contact with her.

"Well, it was lovely Yoongi. I'd be glad to have you as my partner for this class," She said with a smile. Not one of a polite or otherwise forced origin. But a truly genuine smile that he couldn't help but return as she extended out her hand.

"...Thanks," He said hesitantly as he reached to shake her ever so soft hand.

Little did either of them know at the time is that their partnership would lead to a budding friendship.

He sighed, yet another day managing the basketball team. He made it sound like he loathed the whole team. In fact far from it. He just hated being the guy not playing is all. Ever since he was younger loved playing the sport. Yet, here he was relegated to the role of sorting the team out and such. Really just an over glorified mother for a bunch of guys who didn't need it.

"You seem chipper today Yoongi," Jinwoon said with a laugh as sat next to the black haired boy.

"Yeop, totally am. I just fricking love being the manager of this team instead of playing," He said his voice obviously seething with sarcasm. While he appreciated the older males company. He was a very obvious reminder of the fact he himself couldn't play.

"How about we play some hoops after school Yoongi?" He asked with a smile on his face. While Yoongi would like to think he was a good player. Jinwoon was on a different level compared to the rest of the team. "How about you have Bobby and Jungkook. I'll take Jackson and Dokyun."

Yoongi sighed in response. Perhaps it'd be better than nothing. He at least gave Yoongi, Bobby and Jungkook. Jungkook was a lowerclassmen that had exceptional speed. Yoongi was honestly surprised to see him play basketball instead of track and field. Bobby was what many people dubbed the next Jinwoon. So he was pleased to have him on his team.

"Alright, sounds like a plan."

His breaths were heavy and laboured. Sweat drenching his face as his headband did it's best to keep his hair from falling into his eyes or in his case block his glasses. Honestly, Yoongi probably had the capability to compete on Jinwoon's level. However, that would require him taking off his glasses. Which for periods of time longer than a basketball quarter caused his head to hurt. Which was probably a result of him being far-sighted. An issue he came to discover during middle school.

"I didn't realise you played so well Yoongi," Jungkook said with a smile. He was obviously impressed by his upperclassmen's ability to play ball. Especially considering he was the manager. Jungkook thought that this match was actually just a hazing ritual given his team's manager was on their team.

"I used to play a decent amount before I got these," He said gesturing to the object that allowed him to have sight like regular people.

"Too bad we couldn't beat them huh," Bobby said his competitive streak showing through.

"I would say there's always next time. But I have a music project coming up. So that means any free time I would've had is out the window," He said with a sigh. Until of course, he remembered his new partner.

"Huh, it would seem our Yoongi is growing up. It sounds like he has less of a disdain for school projects and more of a dislike," Jinwoon said walking over slowly while bouncing a basketball. "That was a good match. I feel like the team is in good hands once I graduate."

"Well you know everyone said I should grow up. So I guess I'm trying," He said with a smile.

"Well anyway I promised Jungkook I'd give him a ride home. You guys alright to walk home?" He asked as he went to walk away. Which only caused Yoongi to raise an eyebrow. Why wouldn't he be fine to walk home?

"Yeah! We'll be fine. Me and Yoongi live on the same street after all. Plus if anyone tries to step us out. I have Yoongi's back," Bobby said as he started shadow boxing to prove a point.

"Alright, alright. I should've known better," Jinwoon said with a laugh. "Maybe I'll see you guys at school tomorrow?"

"Should do," Yoongi replied as he watched the older male walk off.

"You seem different today Yoongi," Bobby asked turning to the older male as they walked down familiar streets. The sun setting down behind him as he noticed his friend in deep thought.

"Do you think we will always be friends Bobby?" He asked solemnly, suddenly taking an interest in his shoes. Despite Bobby knowing the type of person Yoongi was. He couldn't but help internally shudder at the idea.

"What brought this up?" He asked curiously.

"There's an ever so widening social gap between us Bobby. You're the popular dude. I'm the guy that keeps to himself. I don't think I need to go on," Yoongi firmly stated as he came to a halt. "We hang out less and less these days. Don't get me wrong. I'm not angry in any way. I'm just.... stating my perceptions."

What followed was an ugly sort of silence as Bobby stopped. He frowned at his older friend. "You know we've been friends since middle school man. You were the first person to talk to me when I moved to Seoul from America," He said with a sullen look on his face.

Yet Yoongi smiled at him. "I don't want to be the one holding you back Bobby. All I'm saying is that I'll still consider you a friend even if we drift apart," He calmly stated as he adjusted his glasses.

Bobby sighed in response. He quickly grabbed his friend by the neck and started ruffling his hair. "Don't be like that Yoongi. I'm gonna be here to annoy you for a long time," He said with a laugh.

"Aish, alright. Can you stop that," He said with a smile crossing his face. He quickly escaped the taller boy's grasp. "Anyway, what do you think about the shots they make us take every year?"

"What do I think of them? I mean we kind of need them. Granted I feel like I move faster and such. But that might just be because I've seen way too many superhero movies," He said with a laugh as he started shadow boxing once again.

"Well, I think they're kind of annoying. But you know we have to be immunised and ," Yoongi said with a shrug.

"Are you saying that you don't believe that they're for immunisation Yoongi?" He asked turning his head to meet his friend's spectacles.

"Hey now don't use me to feed into your conspiracy theory. I'm not gonna hope on your 'placebo' super power train, Bobby," he said with a sigh. Sometimes the way Bobby thought and acted he felt like he was still in middle school. But he supposed that's he kept him around. After all, he was a great foil to Yoongi cynicism.

"Hey man! Sometimes you gotta have dreams!" Bobby said with a hearty laugh. Perhaps that was the sound that bypassed Yoongi's icy shell.

"Anyway, let's jam some video games at mine," Yoongi said as he dragged his friend towards his house.

Weeks went by like the ever advancement of entropy. However, Yoongi found himself enjoying classes more often than not due to new found companionship in Chaeyoung. Her love for music matched his so naturally, they got along.

"You have such a way with words for someone so reserved," Chaeyoung stated with a smile. He could help but feel his heart swell in pride at the notion. He returned the smile gingerly as he sipped at his coffee.

"I dunno about that Chaeyoung. I mean honestly, you just have to put some thought into your words," He said as he looked her in the eye. "Maybe I'm just so reserved because I want to be respectable and not the my male friends see me as."

"That's sweet," She with a laugh. A finely painted laugh that many dudes would just love to hear. However, as it faded she tilted her head. "Sweet like sugar. That's what I'm gonna call you now."

He couldn't help but try to stifle his incoming groan. After all, he didn't want to dissuade a potential friendship. "Fine, what do you want as a nickname?" He asked blankly.

"I'd prefer if you came up with something," She with a smile. He had to admit she was a pretty girl after all. However, he did secretly fear her wrath. After all, it was the nicest people who hit the hardest. "How about...." He paused for a moment. After all, it needed to match her personality. "Rosé?"
