He didn't meet her in a bright place, no, he met her in a bar veiled with shadows and sins tucked in its corners while rain pummeled furiously against the wooden walls. They watched each other warily, the years of friendship they shared meant nothing. Or so they thought, after all growing up was not the same as growing part.
"You don't regret it? At all? You're on the losing side", he raised his eyebrows and tilted his head, his eyes darkened, " Wasn't losing the one thing you couldn't stand? "
Her lips tilted upwards into a smile as sharp as a knife, " You picked your side, I picked mine." He wasn't sure if it was a trick of the light but a strange expression flitted across her young features.
She turned to leave when he called out, "When we meet again, I won't hold back." She laughed airily and turned around with a dangerous gleam in her eye, "Do you honestly think that you would still be alive by then?"
