Seol:

    Former queen of Goryeo and Ju’s wife. While she and Ju was sent to Hae clan and accepted as a family, she was still concerned with people who lives in palace. And she decides to protect her friends and families in their shadow.

Wang Ju/Gyeongjong (formerly):

“I don’t really care if you become a warrior. Just concentrate on getting back.”

    Former king of Goryeo, and Seol’s husband. After his ‘death’, he and Seol was sent to the Hae clan’s residence as he was adopted as a member of Hae family. Although he initially disagree with Seol who joins the war, he waits for her return. Every year, he and Seol build a stone towers for Wang So and Hae Soo.

Wang Chi/Seongjong:

    The current king of Goryeo. Despite married to Moon-Duk, he still have a feelings for Seol. He and Ju have no longer bitter rivalry. Chi wanted a son, but he failed as he decided to abdicate his throne to Wang Song.

Hwangbo Su:

    Gyeongjong’s third queen, but now known as Dowager Queen, Iron Empress. To follow Seol’s legacy, she dreamt to become a mother of Goryeo. During the conflict with Khitan, she joins the war. She wants her son Wang Song to become a king.

Kim Chi-Yang:

    Hwangbo Su’s lover and a nobleman. He has an excessive ambition to make Hwangbo Su as an powerful queen and her son Wang Song as a king. Despite his greed and obsession, he actually loves Hwangbo Su. Even though Song is a prince, Chi-Yang somehow dotes on him.

Baek-Ah:

    Ju and Seol’s uncle, who had become a criminal for the affair with Hwangbo Seol. He is Wang Soon’s father. While exiled in Sasuhyeon, Silla, he was allowed to live with his son.

Wang Song/Mokjong:

    Queen Hunae's only son. It is possible that he might be Chi-Yang's son. In age of seventeen, he becomes the king, but reigned for twelve years. Despite being a kind-hearted man, he considered himself as his mother's puppet.

Yoo Hang-Gan:

   Wang Song's best friend. He often comforts his friend Song when the young king is stressed

Kang Jo:

   The general who respects Seol. He acknowldges her as a true mother of Goryeo. And he helps her hide Wang Soon from Chi-Yan's murderous scheme. He came from Shinju Kang family and supports Ju, Seol, and their beloved ones.

Wang Soon/Hyeongjong (future):

    Baek-Ah and Hwangbo Seol’s only son. After his mother’s death, Soon was sent to the palace. Out of compassion, Chi decided to let him live with Baek-Ah. In future, Soon becomes the king Hyeongjong.

Cheon Chu-Jeon:

    The general of Royal army. During the battle against Khitan he was fatally injured and passed away, leaving his wife as a widow. 

Wang Jung/Vice King Moon-Won (former):

    The former grand general who had become a leading man of Chungju family. He often visit Seol and Ju who lives in Hae residence. Jung also helps Baek-Ah and Soon while his brother was exiled in Silla.

Emperor Taizong of Song:

    Second emperor of Song Dynasty in China. Due to the conflict with Khitan, he agreed to form the peaceful alliance with Goryeo. He did not send the military assistance but provided the military tributes. 

Emperor Shengzong of Liao:

    The sixth emperor of Liao dynasty of Khitan. He succeeded his father in age of 12. He was known for the innovations with liberating slaves and animal husbandry, based on Gwangjong’s reformations, but he has a big ambition of spreading the empire, as he sent the army to Goryeo at 993.
