4th Full Moon

Full Moon

4th Full Moon

There are only three things in the world that would surprise me. One, is not being reprimanded by my boss, two, is having no Crocs merchandise sold in my favorite store, and lastly, the person sitting in front of me while eating the spicy chicken wings that I ordered. What’s more shocking is the fact that it’s very obvious that she’s not fond of the flavor, yet she eats it nevertheless.

“Byul, I’ve been meaning to ask this so I’m going to ask you now. What made you come early?” she stopped eating, or more like the sauce that coated her fingers then looked at me. She frowned after a few seconds which made me question her with my eyes.

“This thing is so spicy, why would you even order something like this Yongsun-ah…?” she pouted her lips which I found really cute. The wolf part of her illuminates a dog’s ambiance of being adorable, and right now, she was being so damn adorable. I giggled as a response before taking the plate away from her. She almost emptied it when it was suppose to be my meal.

“And yet, you almost ate everything…”

“Well, it’s meat.” She shrugged and I did same thing. I sat right beside her while she wipes the sauce’s remnants off of her fingers. I needed to know why she was early this time, not that it’s a bad thing but why didn’t she do this during the last few months. It was my day off too, so the timing was pretty much with me today.

Done cleaning herself and all, she faced me with a grin. I caught a glimpse of her canine tooth as she did, and I found them amusing. They weren’t too sharp, nor was it too dull. It curved perfectly, making it less scary to look at. In fact, they were like a puppy’s. I stopped staring at them when she started talking, “What do you mean early, Yongsun? It’s like five in the afternoon.”

“Yeah, well, five or not. It’s still a definition of early for me, besides, you usually come around during nighttime, or exactly when the full moon comes.” I grabbed the pillow placed on the arm rest and hugged it while I leaned back in comfort.

She closed the gap between us that made me retreat a few inches. It was too sudden that I reacted by instinct. “Yeah, well, early or not. It’s still a definition of a full moon for me.” the mocking tone was evident on her voice, and the sheepish smile on her face proved more of what she just did.

“You did not just copy me…”

“Is it a bad thing that I did? Hm?” she went nearer until she has completely invaded my personal space, something that I wouldn’t complain to because it was her who was doing it. Slowly, she emplaced her head on the pillow, her face angled with mine and her eyes looking back at me. The blue irises were resurfacing and enveloping her previous brown ones. I could get lost in them anytime and I wouldn’t fight it.

I sat up properly in an indian sit and placed the pillow in between my legs. She followed the change in my position and laid her head unto the pillow, like she was about to sleep. Her eyes were closed and her breathing was calm. I couldn’t help but to giggle lightly, she was too cute for me to handle.

“Yongsun?”

I hummed in response, and with her hand she reached for mine, guiding them to her hair. “Pet me…” it wasn’t a statement, she appealed to me instead, which I liked more about her. She wasn’t one to command, at least not to me, but more of like a soft cinnamon roll.

“Pet you?” she nodded, so I did what she asked for. I’ve always been fond of touching her hair. They were silky, and the color was very pleasing for me. It wasn’t like the normal silver that you’d get when you dye your hair. Hers were more natural, maybe because it was, but I find hers more admirable than any other.

She enjoyed my touch. The way I ran my fingers to her hair, combing and scratching them lightly. I saw the way she smiles and hum whenever my fingers would brush past her silver tresses. Seeing her this way, entrancing me with her beauty, I was held captive. Anyone would agree with me, Byul is ethereal in every angle.

With her, I felt utmost security. Whenever I go out alone, the protection that I would seek for seemed so near, like she was always there. There was only one thing that bothered me, the dream that has never left me for nights the past few days. It started a month ago and it doesn’t seem to stop any sooner than later, and every time I’d wake up, the memory would be vague and clouded. The only thing I’d remember is that Byul was there in that dream, and so was I, and that the dream was nowhere near the road of cupcakes and rainbows.

A lot of things can happen in a month, and in this span of days, I, too, have noticed a lot as well. Besides the dream, which I never had guts to tell Byul because I wasn’t ready on how she’d react, Wheein and Hwasa has been acting weird lately. Weird in a way that wherever the two go, it was a must that I’d tag along. It was fun at first since they’re my friends, but as it went on, it felt like I had no choice which is why it was weird.

“A penny for your thoughts? I have a lot in my pocket.” Only did I realize that I was lost in my thoughts when she spoke. She still had her eyes closed, but her hand where on my knee. She was tracing circles on them which made me smile at her way of affection.

“I don’t think you’d afford it, Byul.” I joked back, and the same time I did, my stomach grumbled which made me froze for a moment. Of all things, it was sort of embarrassing. Byul on the other hand stood up and looked at me, an incredulous look plastered on her face.

She bent over, making her face leveled with mine, the low-husky flavor of her voice resonated to my ears as she spoke. “I wouldn’t worry about that, I have lots of it. What I’m more worried about is that…” she pointed at my stomach and a guilty expression was building up on her face. “Sorry about eating your meal, Yongsun.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at her statement. She looked so innocent, liked a lost puppy, my puppy. I held out my hand to her face, touching her cheek as I looked at her with a smile. This isn’t something she should feel bad about. “It’s okay, just buy me another bucket.”

“More of those spicy little chicken wings?” she asked with one of her eye brows raised, she didn’t like the idea of her most favorite food and most hated flavor in one sentence.

“Yes, more of those spicy little chicken wings.” She contemplated for a moment, but smiled soon after. She even nodded her head like a kid before giving me a soft kiss on my cheek and to my fore head.

“Alright, I’ll order.”

It was passed seven already, both us were at my bedroom, just simply lying there doing mostly… well, nothing. I heard her groan, and I looked her way, and it seemed that she had the same thought in mind as she looked at mine. She snuggled closer to me which I didn’t put a stop to. Her feet went tangled with mine while her head was pressed at the crook of my neck. She was so warm that having her close to me was comforting in many ways.

“Are you bored Yongsun?” her voice were muffled, and her breath touched my skin. It was a new sensational feeling, warm and somehow inviting.

“Kind of, there’s really nothing much to do here in my room. I’m not tired so I won’t doze of easily unlike before.”

She moved away a little, thus making me look at her. There she was, staring at me with a smile on her face. “Do you want to go out? On a stroll?” I could’ve squealed right there, how can I not when excitement and enthusiasm can be seen on her very eyes, like she really wanted to do it. Of course, I’m not one to disappoint, not to her especially. Thinking about it, staying here alone would be boring so might as well go out and have some fresh air. Besides, Byul is my company, everything else is just a bonus.

“Yeah, I would love too.”

The moment we both stepped out the house, the cold welcoming of the night breeze was felt first, shivers soon followed. Byul didn’t show a sign of being cold though, she was wearing an oversized jacket with the blue sweater I gave her underneath. I, on the other hand, wore a pastel coat that falls just above the knees. It was enough to last a long while.

“Let’s go?” in response, she reached for my hand that was hidden in my pocket and intertwined it with hers, squeezing them lightly before nodding.

The sky was dark with a hint of bluish gray, highlights from the big full moon itself as it shines. It was glowing at its brightest tonight. We walked in comfortable silence. It was still early but the neighborhood was silent, only the faint sounds of our footsteps can be heard.

“The moon sure is bright tonight isn’t it?” I can’t help but be in awe, I have always been fond of full moons. The silver lining around it as it glows will forever put me in trance.

“It is, it’s also when we, wolves, are most powerful…” she chuckled. She was looking at the ball of light itself. When she stared at me is when I realized that her eyes had change color. The usual brown irises were now occupied with blue shades.

“Your eyes… they’re beautiful…” I could stare at them forever, the way her eye shines and light up, giving it a more prominent color can hypnotize me for a life time. I’ve been focusing on her eyes so much that I didn’t notice that she had come closer to me, her face were about three inches away. I was so embarrassed for staring too much that I shifted my attention to my feet.

I heard her laugh, a sweet taste of flavor in her voice. I’m still amazed on how her voice is so deep yet very melodic at the same time. “I know… a lot of people in my pack had admired my blue eyes. No one is an exception, Yongsun.” I couldn’t help but snort a little followed by a laugh, because that sounded somehow arrogant.

“Well, someone’s so full of herse–!”

I wasn’t able to finish my sentence when she cut me off immediately, “But your eyes are prettier, like the owner. Especially when the owner’s eyes looks at me with so much admiration, I feel so loved, Yongsun.” The night was so cold but my face felt so warm by the sudden greasiness. Who knew she could be greasy? Four full moons aren’t enough yet to know her more.

“Ah yah~” I held her by the shoulder with my free hand, hoping to move her away from me even for just a few more inches. I don’t think I could calm down if she’d be that near, and with that pretty face of hers being the only thing I’d see. When I had the courage to look at her, she beamed at me with her canine tooth protruding a little from the outline of her smile. She was being cute and I could pinch her for it. “Stop being adorable, Byul. You left a new impression on me now, didn’t know you’d be greasy.”

She wasn’t fazed by my statement, and remained grinning, until she spoke, “Pet me?” and from there I knew, that Byul will always have a soft spot in my heart. In just a few encounters, who would’ve thought that she’d be someone so special? Everytime we meet, it felt like I was being drawn to her.

She shortens our distance to the point that was no spaces left in between. Her breathing was calm as I caressed her argentine locks. She radiates warmth that contrasts to the cool surrounding. I was so astonished on how she stares and how her thumb ran circles at the back of my hand that what happened next nearly stunned me.

It happened so fast that I couldn’t keep up. When Byul suddenly turned around, her grip on me tightens even on my arm, as she towers me with her height, preventing me from seeing what was going on in front of us. It made me nervous that I remained still. The cold temperature weren’t helping at all as I’ve felt my blood drain, especially when I heard a voice.

“Well, well, look at what we have here~” it was a man’s voice, Byul growled and she was shaking as her hold unto me tightens even more. She was very angry, and I didn’t know why.

“What are you doing here?” Byul asked with gritted teeth, laughter soon followed. Whatever it was, I knew that the man wasn’t alone. I couldn’t have sneaked a glance but Byul was preventing me from doing so, and I was afraid myself to begin win, scratch that, I’m terrified.

“Aww, little Moon. Don’t talk that way to your elders, have you lost your manners already?”

“I don’t need to show respect to you Donghyun, or to any of you. I am your alpha, you, will respect me.”

“You’re a soon to be alpha, you’re no alpha yet little moon so don’t play arrogant with me.” judging by the voice, there were three of them. They howled and growled as if urging Byul, making her furious even more. Due to fear, I held her for my dear life. I don’t want anything to happen to me, and much importantly, I don’t want anything to happen to her.

“B-Byulie… let’s g-go…” I barely found my voice. Byul tense self calmed a little as she looked at me over her shoulder. She’s worried just the way I am, the only difference is, she’s angry and I’m not.

“What’s that little Moon? Going all lovey-dovey with the prey instead of devouring them? What a disgrace! You know what’s going to happen little Moon, might as well I help you end her life instead of suffering at the day of the feast.” I shivered at his words, I looked at Byul, questioning her. What were they talking about? What offering? The further I think about it, the more horrified I’ve become.

Byul gazed at me with both worry and fury in her eyes. The fury soon disappeared and was replaced by her tender stare.

Things happened so quickly. I barely blinked and the next thing I know, I was on the ground, Hwasa was holding me in place. Wheein and Byul were having hand to hand combat with the three. Why are they here? How did they get here?

Wheein and Hwasa are wolves too?

I snapped from my trance when I saw both Byul and Wheein being thrown. I whimpered at the sight of their body hitting the ground, and Hwasa immediately secured me in an embrace. “W-What’s going on…?”

“Shhh unnie, every thing’s going to be fine, they’re going to be fine.” Though I can hear the slight falter of her voice, I knew she was scared for Wheein too.

I was about to calm down a little when Hwasa pulled away from me. “H-Hwasa…”

“I’m going to help them unnie, my Wheein and Byul unnie needs Ahn Hyejin’s help.” She chuckled as I nodded to her and she ran to their way. The longer I watch, the more nervous I become, though I know they were winning, I couldn’t help but worry about their well being.

Wheein and Hwasa had given a good fight on their own as both their opponents were on the ground. Byul on the other hand was winning herself when suddenly, the guy named Donghyun, shifted to his animal form, kicking Byul away from him.

The next thing I knew, he was running towards me, and as he leaped towards my position, I could hear Hwasa and Wheein’s voices, shouting my name. He pinned me down and though I tried my hardest to push him away, I couldn’t. He was too strong.

“B-Byul!” her name was the first thing my brain called for, it was her that I needed most. Soon, Donghyun was thrown to the side but he managed to scratch my arm with his claws. I hissed at the sudden sprung of pain. Wheein and Hwasa immediately went for my aid. I looked at my side and noticed that it was Byul who pushed him aside, she was in her wolf form, her silver coating swaying along her every movement.

Wheein covered my eyes while Hwasa ripped a piece of clothing as she wrapped around my wound. I bit my lip my lip trying to suppress a scream of pain, I knew the wound was deep and it would leave a huge scar.

Everything came rushing in immediately, the terror of being almost at the brink of death and the discomfort. I felt myself weaken while I heard what seemed to be Donghyun’s scream and Byul’s voice as she spoke, “I was being nice, but goodbye to you, Donghyun.”

Wheein removed her hands from my eyes, I was about to look at what happened to Donghyun as curiosity got the best of me, but Byul prevented me as she locked me in a tight embrace, avoiding my bleeding wound. I felt everything at once and my tears welled up. I was crying, I was too frightened at what could’ve have happened. Worried of our safety. “B-Byul…”

“Yongsun, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” she repeated like a mantra. She was crying and trembling herself. Exhaustion invaded my body almost immediately. I was too tired that I succumb to her embrace, everything went blur, I wasn’t afraid anymore. I will always be safe with her. Soon, I fell to slumber into her arms with a smile as I heard her last words. “I’m sorry Yongsun… I love you…”
