CHAPTER FOUR

Morning coffee (yep, it’s that important). (2015)

Sunggyu’s first task on the very first day of his secretarial job is preparing a cup of coffee for his president. He heard the staffs discussing their previous experiences having to deal with grumpy Woohyun before his usual morning coffee that turns disaster in just 50 seconds facing the Nam’s handsome heir.

Sunggyu listens clearly about the company’s policies and the do’s and doesn't in the company during his registration before the representative of the HR department drag him around the floor to introduce Sunggyu and his current position before sending him straight to Woohyun’s office. 

And one of the crucial information that Sunggyu might have forgotten is If you try to have a conversation with Woohyun before his morning coffee, you’re going to have a bad time.

“Kim Snggyu-ssi?” Sunggyu dropped his planner and turn towards the phone on top of his desk to answer the intercom “Y-yes, Mr. Nam?”

Kim Sunggyu is a man born with confident as high as the skyscraper and stuttering have never been in his dictionary. Guess there’s always a first for everything. Even his intimidated grandfather didn’t scare him this much.

Woohyun did try his best to tolerate his new secretary that the HR’s team has chosen with an approval from his father. He didn’t know why there’s a need for the old man to interfere with the interview. He also threatened to stop giving Woohyun an assistant if he continues to fire his staff absent-mindedly. It wasn’t his fault that they’re incompetence. 

“You smell the coffee?”

Sunggyu frowned at the random question and try his best to sniff his surroundings. Apart from the air conditioner’s sweet scene, he smells nothing. Let alone something that resembles a coffee scent. “Um, no Sir?” 

Woohyun chuckled and Sunggyu’s face pale at the sound before it stops abruptly. “Me neither. Go make some!”
 

With that Woohyun end the conversation and Sunggyu quickly grab his outdated Samsung’s smartphone and open his search engine to search the step by step on how to make a good coffee. He is a tea person, don’t blame him.

There’s a lot of complicated ingredients listed online to make a cup of coffee and he frowns at every single one. Brown sugar? Why do you need a brown sugar for a simple long black coffee? He’s not trying to make a latte for sake.

A few more minutes pass and Sunggyu were preparing to go into a major freak out mood before a sudden realization hit him like a truck. How can he forget about Hoya? That friend of his owned a café and has been working as a barista for years.

The brunette opens their Whatsapp group that Dongwoo has specifically created for three of them after Sunggyu’s first meeting with Hoya and click on Hoya’s name to privately message him.

To: Dongwoo’s fiancée
Dude, how to make a good cup of coffee?

From: Dongwoo’s fiancée
Why? Do you want to change your professions now?
No vacancy left btw.

To: Idiot number 1
No. Just my boss.
The steps, please?

From: Idiot number 1
Oh, try to get into his pants on your first day of a job now?

To: Dongwoo’s only mistake
STOP WASTING MY TIME.
I NEED THE STEPS, THE WATER ALMOST DONE BOILING.

From: Dongwoo’s only mistake
Alright man, Chill.
Follow the steps carefully. 
Wouldn’t want you getting hurt.

Sunggyu marks the text that contains the steps as important before leaving the conversation and starts making his way towards the empty countertop to prepare two cups of coffee for Woohyun and him. He didn’t drink coffee, but there’s always a first time for everything. Likewise.
