We Broke Up
One More Try"I’m betting that Irene will be the first one to get married, what do you think Seul?"
Joy says as she chugs down the rest of her beer. The sound of her empty glass being slammed on the table makes Irene wince. But she knows deep down that it's not the sound that irks her. It's her words. Words that hold no truth, at all. Joy looks around the table, next, her lips before she says,
"Wendy's going to propose to her as soon as we've graduated, I'm 100% positive."
Irene shifts in her seat, trying to find a way to feel comfortable, but she fails. "I-" she shakes her head as she swallows the lump in .
"I doubt that."
Much to her dismay, everyone turns to look at her now, questions written all over their faces. They don't have to voice them, she knows what they were: what happened? Is everything alright? Are you two okay?
Therefore, before any of them decides to voice them out, she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and says,
"Wendy and I... We've broken up."
Those three words echo in her ears and she feels as though the knife that has been on her heart since the day she and Wendy decided to end things for the better twists even deeper and deeper into her heart. It that things don't work out for them because Irene was so certain that it would. Unfortunately sometimes being certain about something isn't enough.
