Chapter 41: This Moment was Ours

Third Person’s P.O.V.

Two of them were walking hand in hand when they saw Vivian, Seunghyun and Hyukjun leisurely waiting for them in an old convertible Mustang. Hyukjun let out a big smile out of excitement for their adventure today when they finally came.

“Come on! Come on!” He fired up as he climbed in front seat beside Seunghyun and Vivian sat at the back.

Jessica giggled and jogged, landing herself beside Vivian at the backseat with Yul next to her.

The engine revived.

“Off we go!” Seunghyun loudly cried out positively and started driving.

All smiles glimmered on their faces. It’s time to go all out today and make use of their short vacation to be youthful as they can be. They planned to spend some time to climb in one of the famous waterfalls along the province.

The strong wind brushed through their faces as they drive in the course of mountain en route near the top of waterfall. Thankfully, the head of the district put the road into effect making it easier for tourists to reach it without struggling to trek so high.

Yul was singing together with the music on the radio, exhilarated by the mood, his companions and the bright sunny day.

“Life goes on, it gets so heavy, the wheel breaks the butterfly, every tear a waterfall, in the night the stormy night she'll close her eyes, un the night the stormy night away she'd fly”

He sung as he looks at Jessica in the eyes and slightly swaying his head along with the beat.

Jessica beamed at him. When the song reached to chorus, all of them sung simultaneously. “And dreams of, Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise, oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh-oh“ They went on ‘til the song ended, not stopping even until the next tracks.

They couldn’t help but pump their hands in the air to defy the wind and just have fun through their ride. The girls are jamming their bodies with the rhythm of whatever music that played in the radio.

“I know a place where, We can head up there, Sail on the sunset to the sky, Wave to the people, Everyone you know, up on a satellite”

Jessica and Vivian started the song in the right melody with their hands still dancing in the air. When the next line comes, the boys bopped along with them and voiced out their talents in singing – never caring if they’re out of tune.

“'Cause we go, we go, Watching cities and streets come to life, Yeah you know, you know, We're just starting, we're learning to fly, Head for the stars, be who we are, Living like creatures of the night, Never grow old, stay young in our soul, We can outrun the daylight, And we do, what we wanna do, And we do, what we wanna do, Do what we want, be who we are, Living like creatures, creatures, creatures, Of the night”

They just screamed their hearts out, making the people they pass by turn their heads at them and they just don’t give a damn about the weird looks they're shooting. They were  just enjoying every minute of the ride.

After an hour of travel, they finally reached to the entrance of the tourist spot and they hopped off when Seunghyun parked the car.

A tourist guide immediately welcomed them. “Hi, sir! Up for a hike?” He asked with his lips wide open.

“Yeah. Where should we head to?” Seunghyun answered him with another question.

“This way, sir.” The person happily guided them. “Just pay for the entrance and environmental fee over there.” He pointed his finger to the counter in front of the small district office. “And drop off my name as your tour guide for today. I’m Sangho, sir.” A hand was offered for a handshake to Seunghyun.

Seunghyun reciprocated the gesture and did as instructed - the four others were just following him.

After listing their names on the registration list and paying fees, the tour guide started leading the way so they won’t get lost in the middle of the mountain.

“This is my first time to hike.” Said Jessica to Yul who was walking at her pace. Their other companions are already ahead of them. Seemingly, their lungs and bodies are strengthened enough to do this.

“And how do you find it?”

“It’s so tiring! The things you make me do, Kwon Yul.” She stated and jokingly shook her head.

Yul chuckled at her response. “Just a little bit more, babe. I assure you it’ll be worth it.”

“What’s the use of the road if we’re still going to do this? We just got fooled.” Jessica cutely ranted.

“I bet you’ll be dead even before we get to the destination if we start at the bottom.”

“Are you looking down on me??”

A sheepish smile formed on his face. “Should I give you a piggyback ride?”

As if the tease was indeed a fact, Jessica smiled widely at the suggestion. “Would you?”

“Do I get something in return?”

Jessica reached out her hand over his shoulder and Yul automatically s his arm on her waist. “Do you always have to ask for something?” She unbelievably asked.

“I don’t see why not.”

She halted and crossed her arms. “Okay, tell me.”

“I want you to bring me lunch in school next Tuesday.”

Jessica smirked. She thought it was easy – not even much effort is needed. “Consider it done.”

“But.. you have to cook it.”

The smug look on her face dissipated at the latter sentence and eyed him unbelievably. “Yah! You do know that I don’t know how to cook, right?”

“Who cares?” Yul fired back and this time, the smirk transferred on his lips.

Jessica released a deep breath and nodded her head in defeat. “Alright, if that’s what you want.” She uttered. She just wanted to get this hiking done and over with – her weak knees are already failing her. They haven’t even distanced themselves for about five hundred meters. “Eat it at your own risk.”

He giggled. “Oh man, who dares to reject whatever Jessica Jung offers?”

When Hyukjun looked back to find them, there was no one to be found that stopped him from walking. “Yul!”

The loud shout sounded within the area and both reached their ears.

“Go ahead! We’ll be right up!” Yul shouted back.

After making sure that they’re still within reach, Hyukjun continued walking up.

Yul squatted down and tilted his head at Jessica. “Hop on.” He invited her with a smile on his face.

Without having second thoughts, she placed herself on his back and he rose up. There was no point to decline so she willingly did as she was told.

“Are you sure you can carry me?” Jessica worriedly questioned when Yul started taking his steps.

“Psh. You’re not heavy.” Yul boastfully muttered.

Jessica giggled. “Seriously?” And she with her multiple pecks on the side of his face.

That move made him more motivated to carry her until they get to the place. A smile didn’t miss his face. “I’d love it if you would keep doing that.”

“Should I?”

“Excuse me, miss. Are you trying to flirt with me?”

Jessica scoffed unbelievably at his answer. “Excuse me? You’re not my type!”

“Not your type huh?” An evil smile flashed on his face before he quick-wittedly ran through the slippy and muddy path walk. Jessica shrieked loudly as she bounced on his back and slapped his shoulders to make him stop from running.

Her heart raced fast at the thought of slipping and falling down in the hard ground.

“Yahh!!” She squealed and couldn’t help but chortle as well. She somehow found it fun.

Yul halted from his tracks, chuckling while he faced her. Before Yul could breathe out some words, Jessica unconsciously kissed all over his face – making him smile like a fool. “You stupid prick!” She said as she does her thing.

Meanwhile a bit earlier, Vivian knotted her forehead when she heard a high-pitched scream. “Did you hear that?” She asked the guys with her.

Seunghyun gave her a confused gaze. “No?” His arm hangs on her shoulders and said, “Come on.” And pushed Vivian with him.

They continued walking without waiting for their ‘lost’ companion. There’s no way they would get lost anyway, there’s no other turns along the way.

After they stopped being playful, Jessica wrapped her arms around his neck and quietly enjoyed the free ride. Yul securely held the back of her knees with his hands and kept her close to him while she attentively wipes away the sweat that forms on his face.

She was staring at him and thought, “This guy has casted his spell on me.” And she loves it.

“Did you have girlfriend before?” She cautiously asked. This time, she wants to know him better and make this part of their hiking momentous.

Yul calmly raised a brow at the sudden question. “Yes..”

“I had my first relationship during sophomore year for a year. And the second one was a year and a half.” Yul continued.

“And…?” Jessica merely asked, obviously wanting to hear more of his past including all the little things about him.

“I.. only had two?” The tone was unsure, he could not grasp what she meant by the question. But he’s more than willing to share everything to her. “What do you want to know?”

There was a brief pause from Jessica before letting out her thoughts into words. “Who was your first love?”

“Park Hyomin. She was my classmate and I guess we just fell out of love.” Yul answered without having second thoughts.

“Was it special?”

“It was. Because.. all of my firsts were with her.”

Jessica suddenly felt jealous but didn’t put much attention to it. In spite of that, did she just confirm that he’s not a anymore? Well, it wasn’t something she’s open to speak of yet.

“For someone who shared every first with a certain person, I think one year is too fast to fall out of love.”

“I know, right? I guess we we’re too young and kind of wanted to seek more than what we have. Hyomin is a liberated girl and my love was exchanged with headaches and heartaches as time goes by.. And you know, as if I haven’t learned from my experience, I met Kim Hyuna. She’s younger than me but she was raised in States. That explains her liberated personality like Hyomin. As far as I could remember, she was my rebound and it seems like the history repeated itself so I decided to break it off.” Yul carefully explained as the person on his back attentively listened to him.
