Lost on You
Winter SunsetChapter 10: Lost on You
Lost on you By: Lewis Capaldi
"Lately I'm getting lost on you
You got me doing things I never thought I'd do
Never spent so long on a losing battle
But lately giving up don't seem to matter"
A/N: It’s hard to write Meanie when they’ve given me so little inspiration lately and yoonmin has been all over each other. Nevertheless, I love this story with all my heart and am going to try to push through. Maybe I’ll write a yoonmin story in this verse too sometime.
“So, around five percent of the population has a mutated genome sequence in their DNA that can produces powers, if it continues to mutate. Only about two percent of the “potentially powered” population’s genes will continue to mutate. When this happens, it’s all at once. They call this the awakening.”
Wonwoo flinched at that, drawing his eyebrows together and rubbing at his temples. Mingyu paused. He didn’t know how to process any of this. It all sounded like a bad sci-fi movie or a nightmare. Any minute now, he’d wake up and be at home, laughing over his overactive imagination.
“So, yeah. The awakening is typically triggered by being around other “powered”, or by being under physically strenuous or stressful situations. Thus, how camps like Camp Mansae came about-“
“There’s more camps like this?”
Mingyu laughed, “Yeah, haha. “Powered- although most of us really hate that term- exist all over the world. Although, a large percentage of the camps are in America. SSPAWN is centered in America.”
“Spawn??” Wonwoo asked curiously
“Spawn is the worldwide union for the “powered” populations”
“It’s an acronym for Scientific Study of Powered Allegiance With Nations.” Seungcheol added, “After World War II, more of, um, our kind started popping up. The problem was no one knew what we were or why we were here. Powered people were killed immediately, if there awakening didn’t kill them already.”
Seeing Wonwoo’s scared face Jeonghan patted his arm, “Don’t worry, you’re fine. The real reason camps like this exist isn’t just to trigger the awakening. The later in life the awakening happens, the more dangerous it is for the powered individual since their body has already been fully developed.”
Joshua nodded, “So, SPAWN was created around 40 years ago and has since started these camps to trigger the awakenings, allow us to develop our abilities outside of our powers, and protect us. Since they are allied with the military and government, most non-powered just view these camps as the best military camps in the world. So when SPAWN sends an invite, you can’t turn it down.”
“So…” Mingyu looked toward Wonwoo hesitantly, “What do you think?”
“I think this all a bunch of bull” Wonwoo rolled his eyes, looking directly into each pair of eyes staring back at him expectantly “a really nice ‘practical joke’ for the new camper”
Joshua smiled, “Wonwoo, have you looked in a mirror this morning?”
Wonwoo drew his eyebrows together, watching the motion of Mingyu’s tongue dragging across his lips for a second before remembering he should respond, “No, why would I?”
Jeonghan handed him a small mirror. As Wonwoo raised the mirror to his face, he almost dropped it. For one thing, he could see himself, as well as everything in the room, crystal clear, but his glasses were missing from his face. Where his eyes previously his behind his glasses, they now seemed more pronounced than ever, a deep dark blue. His skin looked as thoug
