Chapter Five

Kiss me

‘It is human nature for us to wish for something we don’t have…’

Yein coughed harshly as lay back down in her bed, Lady Mijoo’s hand maid Myungeun was next to her placed her hand onto Yein’s feverish head. She had been bed ridden for two days already and they normally they said the second day was the worst which meant she had endured the worse, however Myungeun was worried due to the fact that getting sick was never a good omen. She was with her partner on the day her and Yein went to the market and she spent time with the second prince. She knew she should have told her but when Myungeun saw how happy she was with him, she felt sympathetic and decided to keep it a secret that Yein was seeing the second prince too much. However she knew the consequences that Yein would have to go through if she stayed too close to him and they were discovered.

“Yein… you seem really close to the second prince…” Myungeun said while braiding her hair. The sick girl whose eyes were lifeless before suddenly had a glow of life in them.

“What about the second prince?”

“Yein, don’t stay too close to him… He may be bad luck.” She played with her hands as she looked down. Yein’s smile turned upside down and she bit on her dry lips.

“You know how I believe in omens and spiritual things, and I’m just worried Yein!” Myungeun grabbed Yein’s hands and held them as she looked at her with eyes that showed concern for a younger sister. “I don’t want anything to happen to you…”

Yein smiled and held onto Myungeun’s hands, “I wont leave you okay? You do remember how strong I am! Nothing will make me die easily.” She chuckled and Myungeun stilled looked worried but nodded.

Jungkook looked out of the window as he watched the scenery in front of him move as the carriage moved with occasional bumps from the uneven road. His eyes were clouded with the reflection of the blue sky and the occasional clouds as the sun kissed his features with delight. He admired the trees as they whirled and waved at him and he smiled when he saw a mansion close by.

“So Jungkookie, how are you and your young mistress?” Hoseok asked while starring at the reflection of the window and adjusting his tie.

“You shouldn’t call all young women as mistresses, Hoseok. Its rather rude.”

The later chuckled and rephrased his question, “How are you and your lover?”

Jungkook turned a bright red and the other couldn’t help but snicker at his reaction. The other man in the carriage just shook his head as he watched the two younger, it had been some time since he had been to this mansion and seen her.

“We’ve arrived my lords.” The carriage man announced as he stopped the vehicle and the three young men stood in front of the mansion that was located on a hill side near the ocean.

“I welcome you to the Lee mansion.” Lady Sojung curtsied and the men smiled, especially the elder one. She looked the same yet more mature, her cheeks still were chubby as ever and she still had the most adorable smile in his world.

“It’s nice to see you once again, Soojung.” The man smiled with his dimples and she felt her heart beat rapidly against her chest.

“Same for you, Namjoon.”

Jungkook walked around the mansion and he had to admit it was beautiful, since the mansion was located near the coast he could feel the sea breeze and see the ocean. He walked around and being Jungkook he got lost again but this time no singing lead him to where he wanted to be.

Instead his heart guided him.

He saw the white sheet fly in the bright sky, he couldn’t see her but he knew it was her by her silhouette and the way she hummed to herself. He placed his hands behind his back as he walked around the sheets and smiled when he moved two white bed sheets apart and surprised the poor maid.

“My dear lord!” She gasped and held onto her poor heart.

“Hello Miss beautiful Yein.” He greeted with a grin and she gave him a slap to the shoulder. He chuckled at her expression as she continued to work while ignoring him. He watched her small petite hands pick up the white sheets and noticed how dry there were and the small callouses that were on her fingertips. Her arms were thin and he wondered how she could pick up the heavy wet sheets and put them on the line with ease, then he looked at her face and noticed something.

“Have you been eating properly?”

“Pardon?” Yein placed the last sheet on the line and sighed in relief as she finally looked at him. The wind blew past them and her hair blew backwards and Jungkook’s hand moved to cup her cheek, as he ran his thumb under her eyes.

“Have you been sleeping properly?”

Yein was lost in his eyes as both didn’t break eye contact with one another. He noticed that her face was too pale and the bags under her eyes were so heavy that it worried him. Why did she have to live a life full of suffering, a woman as beautiful as her shouldn’t be as thin as her, tired or even dare to have callouses on her fingers. Jungkook wished that she lived a more luxurious life so she wouldn’t have to work till she was sick like this.

“You’re sick aren’t you my love?” Jungkook asked with a pained expression. Yein didn’t say anything but nodded because she felt if she said anything, she would fumble with her words.

“My dear, why are you still working and not resting?” he pulled her closer and brought her face to his chest and placed his chin on her head.

“Because I am not a Lady, but a maid.”

Jungkook eyes widen at her response, never had she once ever brought up their social groups before. Jungkook never looked down at her or even treated her like she was lower than him, simply because he never saw her that way. To him she was a young lady that was beautiful, smart, strong willed and perfect. But what she stated was true, as much as Jungkook wished she was a Lady of some household, she still was a maid; someone that was way below his status. But that didn’t change the fact she should work till she was as pale as a ghost.

“You still shouldn’t work this hard, what if you collapsed?” he pulled away and the happy expression she wore all the time, disappeared.

“Even if I collapsed, I still have things to do that I could never let my Lady do.” She explained but Jungkook disagreed with her.

“But you shouldn’t be doing things like this when you’re sick! A woman should rest more when she is sick because the chances of her surviving is less than of a man. Also you need to eat way more, you’re too thin! I am so scared that the wind would blow you away-“

“Jungkook, why do you care so much about me?” Yein asked. “I am a maid, for god’s sake! Why do you care whether I will die or not? Or if I eat enough or not?” She snapped at him, not because she was mad at him but at herself.  “Jungkook, you are the second prince of England and the brother of the King. You are also a part of the royal family who rule this country! Why would the second prince of England worry or even care about a mere servant of the family that serve the royal family?”

“Because! I-…“ Jungkook froze on the spot and stopped the words flowing out of his mouth as he remembered what Seokjin told him a long time ago, ‘Anyone can tell that you have fallen deeply for that young woman and I won’t tell your bother but I forbid you to tell her your feelings for her. You and her will never be together and as tragic as it sounds, you and her are like Romeo and Juliet. Cursed star crossed lovers that eternally will be separated from one another. Don’t hurt the poor girl’s heart and your own when you already know the fate sealed for both of you.’

“ That is what I thought,” Yein smiled bitterly, “ we are from two different worlds and as much as I appreciate you humble kindness… please… I am only a servant so please do not place any concern over me.”

***

Yein sighed heavily as she cut the carrots on the board while she was cooking dinner for her master’s guest and she instantly remembered the argument between her and Jungkook. She didn’t know what overcame her but she felt upset rather than mad. She honestly wished that she was a young Lady of a prestigious household because she wanted to be noticed by others. She hated when people looked down on her because she felt wronged; why should people judge her when she was human like them? However she was fortunate to have a master and mistress to take her in that did not shun her but welcomed her into their household. But nevertheless that didn’t stop other household looking down on her when she attended parties and events with her Lady, because hand maids weren’t supposed to accompany them to such events.  But she didn’t wish to be from a prestigious family because of the hard labour she has to do, she just wanted to be accepted into society. No, there was more, she wanted to stand on the same level as someone special to her; the second prince, Lord Jeon Jungkook.

Ever since she met the young lad, she knew that she had fallen ridiculously in love with him. Who wouldn’t? However she did not fall in love with his wealth or fortune, instead she loved him for the person he was. A young lad who was clueless, fumbles around yet charismatic and charming as his looks, and the most of all of them, his kindness. He was one of the few that never looked down on her and further even try to acquaint himself with her. She didn’t want fortune, but she wanted to be able to stand next to that man with no shame and for him to look at her the way she looked at him. And that was the only reason she wished to god that she was a young Lady.

“Yein?” Myungeun called out to the dazed girl as she held onto her hand with the knife.

“Ah yes?” Yein snapped back and she looked down to see that she had indeed cut all the carrots up and possibly her finger as well.

***

Jungkook sighed in relief when he sat down on a chair in the room as he untied his tie and placed his coat on the coach near the fire place, as he watched the wood inside crackle and hiss while it burned. His thoughts wondered back to what happened between Yein and him, and he sighed even more heavily. He loved her, although he knew he was a clueless man, this was something he was certain for sure. And if he didn’t stop himself today, then he would have declared his love for her but he knew that was forbidden. Not for his dear friend sake but for his own, because their love was one that would not blossom even in the spring. But he didn’t want to believe it; he loved her endlessly, if it meant that both would have to escape the country to be with one another he would do it. If he could change to someone else that was a civil servant like her then he would change himself and leave all the fortune for her. He knew from the moment he saw her that she was the one for him, even if God told him that they weren’t meant to be, he would disagree with him because his heart knew that she was the only one that could keep his heart for eternity.

Jungkook snapped out of his reverie as he realized the time and went to his dress shirt as he was about to take a warm bath and that’s when he heard a faint knocking.

“Come in!” He called out and ignored the person who came in, as he took his dress shirt and his broad was shown to the intruder.

“Oh my!” Yein covered her eyes as she placed the tray down onto the table near the couch. Myungeun had told her to bring some supper snacks to one of the guest’s room and she never would have imagined Jungkook half in front of her eyes.

Jungkook turned around, wondering what the fuss was and his eyes widen as he quickly grabbed his dress shirt to cover his bare chest. Both had a deep flush overcome their face and Jungkook noticed the food placed on the table. Yein covered her eyes and Jungkook quickly slipped his dress shirt on but didn’t bother to button up the shirt as he walked over to the young woman whose eyes were covered and was in a corner hiding her face. Jungkook turned her around and grabbed both her hands and pined them over her head.

“Open your eyes.” Jungkook instructed and the once embarrassed boy that she met was gone and a man was in front of her with charisma and confidence.

“Yein, open your eyes.”

The young woman refused to open her eyes and Jungkook couldn’t help but chuckle at her adorable expression as she squinted her eyes shut and her face was scrunched up. Jungkook leaned down so that their face was almost a breath apart and whispered gently against her lips,

“If you don’t open your eyes, I’ll kiss you.”

Immediately Yein opened her eyes but her lips were already captured in between Jungkook’s ones as he smirked against her lips and continued to nibble on her lip.

I was gonna kiss you even if you didn’t open your eyes
