Skye
June
After the big decision she’d made with Kaito, Skye decided that a girls’ night was in dire need. Girls’ nights were rare those days; between work and their individual relationships, their time spent together usually happened during the day – they weren’t in college anymore, with a surplus of free time on their hands, and time needed to be spent rationally.
The weekend after Eiji’s graduation marked the weekend of their get together; they agreed to come together on Saturday night, and spend Sunday together as well. Because it was Skye’s idea she invited them over to her apartment; it would have been ideal to have the gathering at Zoie and Akio’s new townhouse but Zoie didn’t want to entertain until the house was completely decorated – according to Zoie, they were just now getting a bed in the master bedroom. On Saturday she worked at the Coffee Bar, and then did some more work on C r u s h when she got home. She had gotten through three chapters before a knock sounded on her door, catching her attention.
“Coming, coming…” Skye rose from her seat on the couch and ventured over to her door, unlocking and opening it; Zoie stood on the other side of the door, dressed comfortably in a pair of jeans and a loose fitting long sleeved white shirt, her oversized tapestry tote on her shoulder.
“I’m here!” she said cheerfully; Skye smiled and stepped aside, letting her in.
“You’re first, as usual.”
“Eh; it’s nothing new now.” Zoie ventured further into the apartment, setting her bag down on the dining table.
“I’m sorry to have pulled you away from your love nest,” Skye said with a smirk, closing the door behind her. Zoie rolled her eyes.
“Ha ha.” Skye laughed. “We’re not that bad.”
“Please! For the past week you’ve been dying to get home as soon as you can!” Zoie blushed, shuffling her feet. “You guys are so cute it’s sickening.”
“Hey, I resent that!” Zoie exclaimed; Skye folded her arms across her chest. “We’re not that bad!”
“Yeah, yeah.” Skye headed towards the living room area. “Have you gotten any progress on decorating?” she inquired, taking her seat on the couch.
“Some,” Zoie said with a nod, following her. “I’m getting the rooms together now.”
“Are you doing a nursery?”
“Why would I do that?” Zoie inquired, frowning curiously. “I’m not pregnant.”
“But in the future…” Skye wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. Zoie grimaced.
“We’ll just wait for that when the time comes, okay?” Skye laughed.
“Alright, alright.”
“It’s strange to hear you talk about this stuff so leisurely, like you’re just okay with this kind of order.”
“I told you; I’m not worried if it’s you and Akio,” Skye told her. “I know that you guys are going to be fine.” Zoie chewed on her lip a little bit, twirling her hair around her finger. “Look, Zoie, a word of advice from someone who learned it the hard way. Don’t care so much about what other people think of your relationship, okay? Worrying about stuff like that is the quickest way to put a rift between you and Akio. You know your relationship and Akio better than any one of us, a
