“It’s been a while since you’ve been over here…” Naiara could feel herself zoning out as she listened to Matthew’s words, approaching a subject that she didn’t want to talk about.
“I know, I’ve been busy.” It was partially true; she had been swamped with work as always, but had simply chosen to stay at home and focus on her work instead of trying to make time for Matthew. Ever since the last time she had been at his home, and he had left her to answer the phone, Naiara had been keeping a bit of distance between them. She didn’t feel like she could trust a word that was coming out of his mouth; she was caught at a standstill in their relationship, unsure about going forward, and uneasy about going back. “Anyway, you shouldn’t be bothered by it, right? With all that work you have to do.”
“Well, yeah,” Matthew agreed. “But I still miss you, of course.”
“Aw, how sweet.” Naiara’s attention went to the notepad in her lap. In the two months that had passed since Skye had announced her upcoming wedding she had not said a word about the nuptials; Naiara had been taking the time to jot down some ideas, just in case Skye finally decided to get a kick start on the event. Even though she wasn’t very particular with weddings at that point in time, it was something to keep her mind occupied when her hands were free.
“So, Skye and Kaito finally picked a date, huh?”
“Yeah,” Naiara responded. “May 20th, she told me.”
