Fate of SoulsCOUNTDOWN: 1 DAY TO FULL MOON #2
Outside on the grass, Kita lay in the dewdrops remnant of a chilly night. Her clothes were damp and her skin had goose-bumps, but they weren’t from the weather. One day away from the full moon, the magic under the forest was writhing in anticipation and Kita’s own magic was reacting to it. It still was a feeling that she wasn’t quite used to, but it wasn’t unwelcome. It seemed to her that the more her magic moved, the more it covered up that empty space inside her that reminded her of her unbound state.
A spell book was open beside her, it’s words not as foreign to Kita as they had been. Along with translating the books for her, Kris had been showing her how to recognise words and distinctions within the ancient language. She couldn’t read it by herself, but once Kris had translated it to her, she could kind of remember which phrase said what. This current phrase was about how to grow a plant without a seed, one she’d chosen because naturally, as a Fey, she should have an easier time with nature magic. “To affect that which is such a part of us, we must exchange, and be a part of it.” Kita mumbled the words under her breath for the millionth time, having memorised them days ago. From what she could understand, she just had to share her magic with the earth and focus on what she wanted. But not only had she produced no results, she was beginning to doubt her understanding. There were no other instructions, how could she be expected to understand what any of this meant?
But then again, complaining about it wouldn’t give her any further instructions, so she just had to work with what she had.
It was only in the last half hour that the sinking notion had crept into her mind, the thoughts she tried hardest to keep away from. The thoughts that always came to her when she was weakest, creeping in on dark nights and cold mornings.
She was unbound.
The whole purpose of the Fey was to bind, and if she couldn’t then what was she supposed to do? What if this magic inside her couldn’t be used while she was still such a failure? All other Fey parts of her were weaker, why should this be any different? She thought she was getting better now that her control of magic was growing, but apparently not. She looked up at the early morning sky where the faint outline of the moon was still visible in the pale wash of blue, and she felt that familiar sense of yearning, longing for something, anything that would help her.
As if on cue, her magic hiccoughed, and Kita fiercely tried to ignore it. This was something else she’d have to deal with. She must have shared too much magic with Kai, that was the only explanation for the way her magic was tugging to him whenever he was near. She half wanted to go look in his magic and find any traces of her own, but the rest of her figured that would only make the situation worse. Besides, without Kai she wouldn’t have even gotten this far.
She looked over to where he was leaning out of his window, face tilted up to talk to Sehun whose head was poked out of his own window a floor above. She chuckled at their laziness, wolves had increased strength and endurance but they still resorted to this to avoid walking up a flight of stairs. They looked over to where she was sat on the grass and Kai smiled brightly at her, Sehun only rolling his eyes and retreating back into his bedroom knowing his conversation was over. She sent a small wave to Kai, and watched as he dropped himself from the second floor window to the porch. She’d been a little worried the first time, but the packs acrobatics had long since become normal to her. He landed with a thud in a crouch, not quite as graceful as some of the others (ie Baekhyun and surprisingly Sehun) but Kai made up for it with this quiet power and intensity in his movements when he was focused. He stood and started making his way over to Kita who was wondering if it was only her vantage point that made Kai look so tall.
“How’s it going?” He asked, plopping himself down on the ground next to her, his face twisting when he realised just how wet the grass was.
Kita grinned at his discomfort, “going alright I suppose.”
Kai rolled his eyes, “even you don’t like nature enough to sit in wet grass for hours. What’s up?”
When did he get to know her so well?
“I’ve just been trying to make a spell work, but it’s not going very well.” She could see his eyebrows furrowing so she continued, “it’s only a small one, something I shouldn’t really be having a problem with.”
“Well why don’t we try together? Tomorrow’s the full moon anyway so you’re not getting rid of me.” Kai grinned in success as she laughed, “I’m going to be following you around alllll day, so we might as well throw a little magic in there.”
Kita nodded, he made the most sense, and this way she’d be able to see how much of her magic was in him at the same time.
“So what’s the spell?” He asked.
“Just trying to make a flower grow.”
“From nothing?”
“Well yeah, that’s why it’s magic.”
Kai looked at the ground, eyes widened as if a sprout was going to jump up any minute now. A muscle jumped in his pulse, and Kita’s eyes lingered for a second too long on the sharp jawline above it before she tore her eyes away, avoiding his gaze which turned to her.
He stood, extending his hand to her. “Come on, D.O. is making pancakes.”
She placed her fingers in his and let him haul her up, feeling his magic rush into her at the contact and setting up base camp in those places she felt hollow. Sure she was running from her problems, letting Kai’s magic take her mind off them for just a few blissful moments, but even so, she didn’t let go.

Still on vacation, but almost every story I’m subscribed to updated in the last couple days, so I felt duty-bound to power out a short chapter and update as well!
Also, this is copied from chap 7 of my Sehun fic "wilfully blind", so if you've already seen it there then dont worry about it but for the rest of you:
1) I've been planning out a whole new chaptered fic that I want to start working on eventually, but the one thing I can't pin down is which member of EXO to pick as my romantic interest! It can be any of them except Baekhyun (because I have plans for him already), so I'd really appreciate any suggestions! As you may be able to tell from my list of fics already, my bias' are Chen, Sehun, Kai, and Luhan, so I'd either write this for one of them again or one of the others.
(I know putting this on a Kai fic may mean some of you are a little biased ;) , but any suggestions would be super helpful and SUPER appreciated!)
EDIT: If you do think I should make this new one Kai - based, feel free to comment below, but also let me know whether you think I should even though I already have one going (FoS is supernatural themed, this new one wouldn't be, so there would be differences, Thanks!)
