Octopus

[HIATUS] Little Colorful Butterfly

Sun has risen four hours ago but Jiyeon is still lazing around in her bed, sinking into all her plush toys her parents had bought for her. It is not a good morning, though her mom came into her room every 10 minutes to wish her that and to wake her up. It’s not like she slides back to sleep, but she simply feels like not getting up just yet, not after what L. Joe called her last night.

            Octopus.

That insensitive freak called her fat and he didn’t even apologize for it. To think he had the guts to deny his wrong, ugh!

Hana comes in yet another round to wake her little princess up. “Don’t test my patience Jiyeon. Get up now!” Her mom pulls the blanket away from her to find her still curling in her comfy bed.

“Mom,” JIyeon drawls. “It’s not even a school week. Why can’t I get some day off?”

“What day off? Just get up and help me fix breakfast. I’m making your favourite, you know. And with this attitude I don’t suppose we can get it done in time.”

         “I don’t wanna eat.”

Hana clutches her hands onto her hips. “What is wrong with you? You were always thrilled when it comes about eating.”

The honest remark from her mom makes her sits bolt upright. She glances at her mom. “Are you suggesting that I’m fat?”

“Don’t talk nonsense and just get up Jiyeon. Now!” Hana then walks away feeling uptight “Gee, I swear I get no help around the house.”

“What’s up with your daughter?” Her dad asks absent-mindedly when he nudges his wife in her resting elbow.

“Don’t ask me,” she shrugs as the couple watch her daughter drinking only plain water. “She accused me of calling her fat.”

“You did call me that, mom.”

            “I did not.”

“Jiyeon,” Shinhwan manages carefully so as to refuse to annoy her daughter even more. “You don’t seem to have a good start today. Would you care to tell us what’s wrong?”

Jiyeon stares back at his dad as she’s considering the idea. “Fine.”

“Thank you,” his dad says, being a gentleman as always. “What’s been bothering you?”

            “Dad, am I fat?”

The question alone makes her dad fall silent. He blinks for awhile before continues, “W-what...?

“I give up,” she snaps and pushes behind the chair to get up.

Shinhwan manages to stop her as he grabs her hand and ask her to remain seated for while. “Who gives you such crappy idea? You’re not. In fact, I think you’re the most beautiful, smart young woman I’ve ever encountered in my whole life.”

Hana frown at her husband. “What do you mean by young woman? Have you ever met other young woman who-”

“Honey,” her husband turns to her. “You know I only love you.” Hana quickly gives her husband a small smile.

            “I love you too.”

            “Dad,” Jiyeon calls.

“Oh right,” his father almost grins. “Sweetheart, who ever said that must be some crazy blind bat, okay. Don’t take it personally. You know you shouldn’t let words bring you down, right?”

“Right,” she finally nods and forces a smile. “But it still bugs me.”

            “Who said that to you?”

            Jiyeon sighs. “It’s L. Joe.”

“What?” Shinhwan’s brows collided. “What-why would he say such thing?”

“The thing is, he didn’t actually call me fat.

            “He didn’t...?”

“Yeah, well I mean, he called me octopus.”

Shinhwan grins at her daughter’s childish argument and decides that he should get to work. “I’ll talk to you later hon.” He gets up and kisses his wife on the cheek before walks away with a small chuckle. Being called octopus means you’re fat? Gee, woman is such a complicated creature.

“He called you octopus...?” Hana cuts in after minutes of silence. Then she bursts into laughter. “How is that makes you fat, sweetie pie? Oh my God, you young girls really amuse me. Never mind that, c’mon help me clean the table.”

Just then phone rings and echoes through the house.

“Gee, the ringing sound is giving me headache,” her mom complains. She picks up the receiver and greets the caller. “Hello.”

“Hello, good morning Mrs. Lee. It’s me, L. Joe.”

Her lips curve into a thin smile. “Oh, L. Joe,” she practically shouts to let Jiyeon know who’s calling. “Good morning. Do you wanna talk to Jiyeon?”

“Well,” L. Joe bashfully admits. “I do. Is she home?”

“Of course. Next time don’t bother calling here okay, you can just come straight to our house. You’re always welcomed around here, like a son-in-law.”

            “Mom,” Jiyeon snaps. “Ewwwww.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Lee,” L.Joe parrots awkwardly.

“I was just kidding,” Hana laughs. “Wait for a moment, I’ll go get her.”

Jiyeon forces her feet over to the telephone desk and reluctantly take the receiver from her mom. Hana taps Jiyeon’s shoulder with a big smile.

“Be nice to him, Jiyeon,” she carefreely mutters.

            “Go away, mom.”

“You young people really amuse me, you know.” Hana then walks away with a remaining laughter.

“What is it?” Jiyeon’s voice sounds cold and upset.

“I called your cell but you didn’t pick up. Are you still mad at me?”

“Tell me why you’re calling or Imma have to hang up.”

            “Jiyeon,” he pleads.

            “Time’s ticking, jerk.”

“Fine,” he finally says. “Can we meet up? Are you free this evening?”

“I am free, but I don’t wanna meet you.”

“Then how am I going to fix this if you’re just going to avoid me?”

“I’m not avoiding you. I just don’t have anything to say to you.”

“Well I do, okay. Meet me at Jj’s House of Coffee at 5.00 PM. Bye.” Then the line goes dead.

“Did he just hang up on me?!”

Chapter 3: i know it's nothing to do with the stroy characters but this is just sooo sweet aww taemin

"And Taemin,” Mrs. G. Na calls the most awkward boy in the class who uses colored pen to write essays. As if he’s that good in English to do so. “Please, I beg you, please don’t use any kind of colored pen to write my essay anymore. I like pink color and all, but black or blue is supposedly to be an appropriate color for students to use when writing. This is my last warning, okay?”
