3rd person POV throughout

Luhan, Minseok, Jongdae, Yixing and Joonmyeon walked into the form room after dumping their luggage in their room. The room was loud as students chattered about their summer holiday and most importantly: summer romances.

Luhan and Joonmyeon took their usual seats. Lay opted for sitting on the table and absentmindedly swung his legs whilst he quietly hummed the Pororo theme song, sending a bright smile towards Joonmyeon who blushed and looked away. Lay’s pink lips jutted out in a pout as he frowned and wondered why Joonmyeon didn’t return the smile. Shrugging, he just smiled and went back to singing. Chen chose to sit not on his own chair but on Minseok’s lap which is why he ended up on the floor, much to the amusement of his classmates.

“So Luhan, how’s Sehun?” Krystal, a witch, asked, wriggling her eyebrows suggestively at the boy. It was no secret in the school that the blonde bad boy had his targets locked on a certain purple haired angel. The rumour (which was the truth) had broken the hearts of many fans in the school -Luhan and Sehun’s alike- leaving only the devote clinging to the hope that Luhan’s good nature would repel him form the shape-shifter and that the latter was just playing around with the purple haired boy’s heart. As cruel as that may sound, they were desperate (and thirsty).

Luhan giggled and opened his mouth to answer but he never got the chance.

“I’m surprised he’s still entertaining the idea, this joke. Shame, we would make such a good couple.” Key interrupted, painting his nails black as he spoke.

Luhan scowled. Standing up swiftly, he stormed over to him and grabbed the nail polish brush. Stuffing it in his open mouth hard, he sweetly told him, “It’s impolite to speak with your mouth full.”

Key spat out the brush that was covered in foul tasting black polish and frantically scrubbed at his tongue with the backs of his hand in the hope of getting rid of the taste. The whole class erupted in laughter and Luhan walked back to his seat with a satisfied smirk plastered on his face and an extra swagger in his steps.

“This isn’t over!” he screamed as he ran out of the classroom.

Luhan shifted in his seat. Someone was looking at him. Turning his head to the left, he was met with Tao’s disapproving glare.

“I’m pretty sure an angel is meant to help people, not cause trouble.” Tao said accusingly.

“Who cares, he had it coming to him. Always strutting around like he owns the place.” Jackson, a dragon who had a reputation for talking too much, carelessly said.

The atmosphere in the room darkened as Tao turned to face the blonde, the latter cowering under his deadly glare. “That is my best friend you’re talking about and he may not own the place but my father played a big part in the building of this school. Do you know what that means?” Jackson shook his head, words failing him which was a rare occurrence. Tao was suddenly right behind Jackson, the latter froze, his whole body as rigid as rock, when Tao hissed into his ear, “It means that I know many secret chambers where I could leave you and no one would know.” Then, as if he hadn’t moved from his seat at all, Tao was harmlessly nodding his head to the music blasting through his headphones as if he hadn’t just threatened to leave someone in a dark stone room to die.

The whole class was in a stunned silence when their form tutor for the year, Mr. Mun, walked in. Smiling his white charismatic smile, the suit clad demon was surprised by how well behaved his class appeared to be and thanked the stars that he’d lucked out when the teachers had picked their classes out of a hat. The teacher removed his navy blazer and hung it on the back of his chair and then undid his top two buttons. It was uncharacteristically hot for England. “Welcome back students, I hope you enjoyed your summer holiday!” he flashed another dazzling smile, causing the female and some of the male students to burst into a fit of giggles. “Now I have a few announcements to make but before I do that I shall take the register.” Mr. Mun drawled through the list of names uneventfully until he came to, “Kim Kibum.” After not receiving the usual ‘here sir’, the teacher glanced up through his black bangs, his red eyes landing on an empty table near the window. He straightened up from his previous position hunched over his desk and asked, “Where’s Kim Kibum?”

Luhan didn’t even have to look up from his desk, which he had discovered had ‘Baekhyun + Chanyeol 4ever’ carved into it, to know that everyone was looking at him. His cheeks flushed a soft pink as he slowly sunk down in his chair.

Mr. Mun smirked. “Say no more.”

Everyone knew about the two angels’ intense rivalry which often resulted in childish pranks and arguments. They had been that why since primary school and were showing no signs of becoming besties any time soon.

The teacher finished the register before continuing on with his announcements. “So,” he started, “we have a new student joining our class. I want you to welcome him but also be careful as he’s still un-awakened so… let’s not freak him out.” He shot a warning look at Jongdae who’s reputation as a prankster preceded him, the elf looking around in feigned shock. With that said, Mr. Mun opened the door with a flick of his hand, letting the new student in.

The boy, who was dressed in washed out jeans and a white top, walked into the class with his head down. He didn’t need to be psychic to know that everyone was looking at him with expectant gazes and he was suddenly very nervous which was unlike him. He awkwardly cleared his throat before raising his head and bowing quickly to greet the class (as was the custom back home). “Erm…” he bit his lips and then them as he felt parched. “Hey everyone, my name is Kim Jongin but I’d like it if you called me Kai.” He smiled sheepishly, his confidence was like a boomerang: escaping momentarily but returning swiftly as the class whooped and hollered their own greeting. Jongin felt stupid. He had been worried for no reason. These were just normal school kids no different from him so it’s not like they were going to bite him or anything. Mr. Mun directed Jongin to an empty seat behind a girly looking purple haired kid.

Seeing as it was the first day back, there were no other lessons and they were let out at lunch time. As soon as the bell rang, the other pupils swarmed to Jongin like a mob on black Friday with him being the lowest priced item. Questions of all types flew at him, hitting him on all sides: where are you from, do you have any siblings, what do your parents do and etc. etc.

“Do you have a girlfriend?” Alex, a mixed race siren, purred.

And at that, Tao rolled his eyes and decided that enough was enough. These kids were like predators circling their prey and he could hear the tanned boy feeling overwhelmed causing him to internally panic.

“I know Mr Mun said to welcome him, but don’t you think you’re going too far.” Tao tutted. “You’re all treating him like he’s the finest cut of meat or something, give him some space.” Reluctantly and guiltily, the other students backed off, mumbling amongst themselves as they fled from Tao.

Jongin sighed in relief, thanking Tao who dismissed him with a nod of his head. The violet eyed vampire stood up and announced that he was going to find Kibum and that he’d see them later.

The girly looking purple haired boy turned in his chair and said with a sweet smile, “It’s nice to meet you Kai, my name is Luhan.” Kai returned the smile politely, this Luhan boy seemed like a good person.

“I’m Jongdae but you can call me Chen.” Another, with high cheekbones, an impish grin and elf ears introduced. “And this is Kim Minseok, the love of my life.” He laughed loudly, dodging the punch that came from the blue haired, chubby faced boy with an icy glare, prompting a chuckle from the new student himself. They were cute.

“Hello,” a light brunette with circle glasses respectfully bowed, “my name is Kim Joonmyeon, but everyone calls me Suho. I’m on the student council so if you have any questions I’m happy to answer them. Also-”

“Alright now gramps, you can give it a rest.” Chen playfully rolled his eyes and earned a frown from the wizard for interrupting.

“Hey, don’t be mean to Joonmyeon.” A sleepy looking brunette said.

“Thank you Yixing.” Joonmyeon quietly said, eyes widening a little at the bright smile that could rival a phone on its brightest setting that he received in return.

“It’s good to meet some fellow Koreans. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find any friends in a foreign school.” He confessed embarrassedly. As usual, Kai was worried for no reason. “I have a question actually.”

“Ask away.” Suho beamed, glad to help.

“Is there some trend in this school with dying hair and wearing coloured contacts?” he asked innocently. “Even the teacher had red eyes.”

“Omo, he’s so cute,” Chen cooed as the others laughed as well and Jongin looked around with a perplexed expression.

What was so funny? He didn’t like being left out of the joke.

“We’re going out for lunch, do you wanna come?” Luhan offered with a warm smile.

Jongin was genuinely shocked. He hadn’t expected to make friends so quickly. These boys had barely known him for half a day and were already welcoming him into their circle of friends. They knew nothing about him -he could be a murderer for all they knew- but were already extending a hand of friendship towards him. Jongin smiled. “I’d love to but I really wanted to learn my way around school, this place is huge.”

“I can show you around, I know this place like the back of my hand.” Joonmyeon insisted.

“It’s okay hyung, I have a map.”

Joonmyeon stared at him with wide eyes. “Hyung? What makes you think that I’m older than you?”

Oh no, Jongin panicked. I think I offended him. He was only trying to be respectful but it looked like he had called him old instead. Jongin stammered, “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t trying to call you old or anything,” he hurriedly apologised.

Jongdae’s body shook with laughter as he pointed at Joonmyeon’s face, red with embarrassment. “He’s new and already he knows that you’re old. Hahaha, I told you you’re a grandpa.” He teased the student councillor, however his laugh was cut short by a cry of pain as he was hit on the head.

“Leave Joonmyeon-ah alone, he’s older than you.” Minseok scolded his immature boyfriend and seriously wondered why he was with him.

Just then, Luhan’s phone beeped as he received a text message.

“Sorry guys but we gotta go. Are you sure you don’t want to come, Kai?” he asked one final time.

“Yeah, but I’ll definitely come some other time,” he smiled.

“I’ll hold you to that.” Jongdae smirked, waving with the others as they left.

Wow, Jongin thought to himself. I hope my roommates are as nice as them.

Who the hell sets up a school in a building this size? They must have ten missing person cases a week. Jongin grumbled as he stopped at another dead end. Seriously, this place was like a maze. Even with the map, Jongin kept running into dead end after dead end, he felt like a mouse trapped in a box. He could have sworn that map said the cafeteria was
