Thirty Three
The RoommateAs she wrapped the book she purchased and sat it on her desk, her mind drifted to the baby and what Jonghyun's reaction would be. As she slipped off her shoes and crawled to her bed, her mind drifted to what the baby would look like, what he or she might smell like. As she moved to her side, staring at her family photo sitting neatly at her bedside table, her mind drifted to images of a family; her family with Jonghyun.
And there it was; the thought that consumed her for days. The baby. Her mind drifted to the baby; always. She was going to be a mother. A mother to a baby just lIke Ha Rang but with her eyes and Jonghyun's dimples. She momentarily halted her emotions as it stunned her; her emotions for this barely-there-yet baby. But as she felt more sleepy, her mind simply drifted to rest.
The harsh tone of her cellphone jarred her from her sleep. Fumbling from its location, Seungyeon tried to get her bearings. Finding her phone, she lay back on her pillow and answered.
"Hello?"
"Seungyeon-shi?" It was Jonghyun. Her lips automatically curved into a smile.
"Ah yes?"
"You sound sleepy. Were you sleeping?"
"I was. But it's okay." She stretched out a bit; still feeling sluggish and a little crampy. "After I left you the message, I fell asleep."
"Feeling okay?"
"Yeah," she nodded, though it wasn't entirely true. "I'm just a bit tired and achy. I just moved in last night."
"So I heard. You should've told me so I could've helped you."
"Anniyo. It's okay. The company hired a moving team. But thanks for offering. Don't you feel a bit jetlag? It's quite early that you called."
"Jetlag? Oh no, I'm pretty used to the flying. It is like second nature to me."
A short pause on both lines. It's been almost a week since they've talked. Almost a week that felt like ages.
"Are you coming down with something?" He sounded worried. And Seungyeon felt slightly bad that he didn't know the true reason for her fatigue. Wanting to avoid this discussion, she decided to divert.
"Don't worry about it. How are you doing? How was the tour?"
"Now that I've heard your voice I feel great," Seungyeon would be lying if she said she didn't feel butterflies hearing that. "I feel even better now that our tour's over. Only a few more guestings and performances, the band can finally take a time-out. Only I think I'd be spending my break in Busan. I still don't know." Her nose pinched as he said it.
"How about you? How have you been Seungyeon-shi?"
"I've just received an offer for a reality show guesting with Jungyeon. So excited to be doing something like that with her."
"Gee, that's sounds nice! I'll definitely watch it."
"And my sageuk drama's still ongoing til I don't know when but I'm enjoying the experience so much."
"Have I mentioned that Viva-hyung is such a huge fan of your drama? He would always say how beautiful and royal you look in your hanboks. And I would never fail to agree with him."
"Ahh yeah? Thank you. That means a lot."
...
Another gut-wrenching pause.
...
"It's nice to know that we can still be friends, Seungyeon-shi." His voice was low and she could tell he missed her.
"I feel the same way too," Seungyeon's hand moved down to her stomach and her mind drifted to the baby. "Anyways, if we're no
