Untold Story: One
FrontingMingyu’s point of view
”Are you really going to bring me home?”
I nodded.
“But, don’t you have any graduation present for me?”
“I am your present, Noona.”
“Oh, man, stop with your cheesy flirting!”
I laughed, while my eyes were still focused to the road. “But I am really your present, your
graduation wouldn’t mean anything without me, right?”
I knew she’s holding her laugh to keep her cool image in front of me, but what else are you
going to hide from me, Jung Ahri? I’ve known you for years, and I even loved you through our
ups and down - you don’t even have to act cooly in front of me anymore.
But still, she’s cute as hell.
“You are boring!”
“Now, tell me, did you really had no boyfriend for the past four years? While waiting for me?”
Her face changed, she seemed confused.
“I really don’t want to break this atmosphere, though.”
“What kind of atmosphere?”
She started to get annoyed, “This atmosphere.”
“This atmosphere? Did you mean you’re happy because I came?”
It was always fun to because she’s really - and extremely easy to get annoyed. Then
I ended up kneeling to apologize; it was always like that.
“Uh, whatever. I dated Wonwoo.”
I knew. Did she think I really didn’t know about that? It’s true that I didn’t contact anyone when I
was in Japan, but one day Wonwoo suddenly contacted me. I didn’t know how could he knows my
number? It’s amazing how he tried to find my number, though.
He told me about Ahri and her whereabout, even her deepest scar because of me. Wonwoo also
told me that he was trying to work things out with Ahri long time ago after I left. He thought that he
could heal Ahri, but he couldn’t. In the end, he just gave up and be her bestfriend that’s always by her
side.
I remember when Wonwoo said: “Friendzone is really . But, what can I do?” he was laughing,
but it showed his pain. I really felt bad, he should’ve had better life than being heartbroken - but I still
owe him big time because he stayed beside Ahri for the whole four years and protecting her; he was
always there whenever Ahri needed him. That’s more than he could do, but he had never left her for
a second.
Not to mention that he also told me to come to Ahri’s first ever exhibition and make up with her for
what I had done. That’s why I was there when Ahri was about to hold the exhibition. But when we met
at the coffee shop, I didn’t plan it, really.
I was shocked when I saw her there, then she was followed by Wonwoo and I stopped following her.
Because I knew that she’s safe beside Wonwoo.
Unfortunately, I was being an for not apologize to her as soon as we met for the first time. I did
childish things instead, and she really hated it. I was just as scared as her to face the reality that I could
hurt and leave her again in the future, that I wasn’t sure if coming back to her is the right thing to do or
not.
When I was confused on the exhibition day, Wonwoo came to my place, telling me that I really should
go and meet her. He wasn’t going to be late on her first ever exhibition, but because of me, he came late.
I was just looking at her from a far, still couldn’t move my feet to her; and ended up did stupid things.
At least we made up now, and I really couldn’t do anything without Wonwoo. Uh, I wish Hana could have
a boyfriend like him.
“Oh.”
“I’m not going to make you jealous, but Wonwoo really did great back then.”
Did she really going to lie?
“Oh.” I walked to her house then seated on the sofa with her Dad and she’s still with her confused face.
I bet she thought that I’m jealous about her and Wonwoo. How cute.
“Mingyu?” she seated right beside me and kept touching me. “I was joking, Wonwoo didn’t do anything.
Please don’t be mad.”
I’m not mad though.
“I thought you two are going now? Hurry up, before it’s dark.” Dad said, and Ahri was confused as hell.
“Going? Where are we going, Dad?”
“You were going to runaway with him back then, right? Go, runaway, we won’t separate you two now. As
long as this guy bring you home safe and soon right after.”
“Huh? Dad?”
Then her Mom shouted from the kitchen, “Pack your things! Aren’t you two going to Daegu to meet
Mingyu’s grandmother?”
She jumped happily, “I know right! You would not come without my graduation’s present, Kim Mingyu!”
I acted like I don’t pay attention to her, but honestly, I’m really happy to see her smiling so wide again right
before my eyes. Even though this couldn’t be my payback for all those things that I did to her in the past.
We decided to take the night train and she seemed more excited than I am? Our runaway back then always
made her worried; because of her parents and also Wonwoo. But now, we don’t have to be worried anymore,
everyone seems to be blessing us.
“Aren’t you cold?” said Ahri, as she zipped my jacket.
“No,” I did the same thing to her jacket. “Winter in Japan is colder than this.”
Her hug is still the same, still giving me the warmth that I’ve been longing for. Seems like our decision to
just take the train instead of driving is the right one, because we could remember about our past times when
we were still a high school lover.
My Grandmother often called me to asked about Ahri’s condition when I didn’t even know about her, and
I could just said that she’s okay.
When she was sleeping on my shoulder, I could just stared at her while reminiscing our sweet memories
back then. No, I will not leave this girl twice. Leaving her once was enough to made me dying, I won’t even
try to leave her twice.
“Grandma!” she ran to my Grandma as soon as we got off the taxi, leaving me with our luggage. Uh, I don’t
even know why she wanted to put all of her belonging to my luggage? I know that we are not going far, but I
brought so many things for my Grandma - that’s why I brought the luggage. But she suddenly threw all her
clothes at me?
“Where have you been, Ahri?”
“You didn’t even greet your grandson, huh?” I whined and she quickly pulled me into a hug.
“I missed you too, my Grandson.”
I know that she’s tired, but she didn’t even bother to sleep and talked about everything with my Grandma
instead. And I’m still here, making a cup of tea for Grandma to drink since it’s already night and she has to
be warm.
Daegu is one of the metropolitan city, but my Grandma lives quite far from the city center since she loves to
grow plants and flower. She said that in the country, she could breath fresh air unlike the air from the city. And
I agreed, that’s why every time I’m done with everything in the city, I would just runaway here to soothe myself.
“Dress prettily, I will bring you somewhere.”
“Aren’t you tired?” she asked.
“There’s a reason why I brought you here in nighttime.”
She seems understood but still looking at me. “What else?”
“My towel, my clothes, and even my toiletries - are o your luggage.”
“Oh, I almost forgot.”
We both walked to my room to unpack the luggage but something’s wrong, no, this shouldn’t be happened
right now.
“What’s wrong?”
“Ahri, I’m sure my lock code is 406 but it isn’t opening?”
“No kidding, Migyu.”
“I’m not even kidding, Ahri.” I said while trying to unlock the code, but it’s still locked. “What should I do?”
“I don’t know, try to remember anything!”
“I’m sure it’s 406, Ahri!”
“But it’s not opening, uh, why are you so stupid? We can’t even take a bath now!” she sounded so panic but
I tried to calm her down, even though it’s still useless. She kept telling me that it’s my fault but it’s entirely my
fault, though. Who told her to put her things on my luggage.
Three hour ad more than two hundred combination or number later, a miracle happened. My luggage opened
with 253 as the lock code. I don’t even know what 253 is, but the most important thing is:
“Unlocked! Ahri! It’s unlocked!” I screamed in joy, then hugged her like we’re celebrating something amazing.
And she also jumped with me because finally she could take a shower...
“I won’t ever let you to use a luggage with code anymore, Kim Mingyu. You almost messed up everything.”
“Already messed up everything.” I said. “I was going to bring you to a beautiful place to celebrate your graduation,
but we spent three damn hours to unlock this damned luggage, and I can’t even take you there at this time.
I’m sorry.”
I was so surprised that she didn’t yell at me? She held my hand and led me to the bed instead, telling me
sleep beside her. “Just sleep beside me and don’t disappear in the next day. Hug me all night long like it’s your
last time to hug me. Kiss me like you’re not going to meet me anymore. That’s enough, Mingyu. Your existence
is already my best graduation present, ever.”
“Thank you, Ahri.”
While facing her face as we kept each other’s face, I can’t stop looking at her face. “Even spending
three damn hours to unlock that was not even a problem for me.” said Ahri.
“We still have tomorrow.”
“True. Don’t rush things, Mingyu.”
I pulled her into a hug, and pulled up the blanket up to her neck. “Sleep tight, Ahri.” as I kissed her forehead.
I might messed up everything today, but she didn’t bother to fight with me for my mistake. Seems like we
both know on how precious our time is.
