Prologue
Overdose
The coach hadn’t previously been this comfortable, or maybe it was just his drowsy head. Tao didn’t really know which one was true or not but there was something about the peace and quiet of the dorms, just being able to slumber and not have it all stressing out on him that was lovely.
He also felt as though someone had bundled him up in a thick, too warm blanket and it was just the right time to lull himself off to sleep in a happy state of freedom the likes of which he had not had in a very long time.
For the first time there was no pain coming from his feet, no hidden grimaces as something stretched and tore…no worries about trying to hide any smatters of blood that were coming from his abused feet.
There was just a thick, heavy silence that was too hard to get up from and Tao welcomed it.
He tried to think about other things, wondered what he was watching on the television but the darkness just crept in, slowly and softly as if someone was embracing him gently.
The peace reigned for a long time and things just were.
Vaguely at first but growing stronger, the young Chinese singer became aware of two voices arguing with one another, though really it was only once voice complaining whilst the other was just trying to sooth the worries of the first speaker.
Or at least that’s what it sounded like to him.
“Man,” he complained, finding his voice through the fog, “Gege’s are so noisy.”
That immediately stopped the two voices with gasps of surprise and fear.
Tao suddenly opened his eyes and found himself no longer in the dorm but someplace else.
And Yifan and Luhan were staring at him with shocked expressions
Quietly he turned back, looking towards the place where his body lay looking so calm and peaceful and he tried to piece together what had happened to make him die…
