When Gunwoo and his companions are finally captured by the Elder Patriarch and sentenced to execution, the situation looks bleak as he is led to the chopping block.  Abandoned previously by their so called allies, it looks as if he's run out of time and options.  But fear makes people do strange things sometimes and Gunwoo isn't the only one afraid of losing something (like his head) or someone.

By a of good fortune (or so he thinks), Seyong is freed from the prison he was awaiting the gallows in and is roped into helping Gunwoo rescue his sister, Chaerin, from a similar fate of burning at the stake.  Happy to be free, he doesn't question his luck until he begins to wonder why the young woman he is carrying is accused of being a witch.
