FACE CLAIM  Jang Chom Mi (ulzzang)

APPEARANCE  Jiyoung is 165 cm tall and weighs 46 kg and usually has her hair down when going out casually, though sometimes she fixes it into a ponytail or a bun. She has a small faded scar on the inside of her left palm from a cooking mishap from many years ago and a tiny tattoo of a black iris on the small of her back. She has one piercing on each ear and is almost never seen without her necklace (a delicate, simple gold chain with a small diamond pendant), which she clarified to be a gift from her deceased grandmother.

STYLE Jiyoung prefers comfort over style but does enjoy looking feminine. She hates revealing clothing or anything that restricts her movements too much. Her tops usually consist of graphic tees, sweaters with sleeves long enough to cover her hands, hoodies and button-downs, although she has recently discovered a love of leather jackets and blazers. Jiyoung's footwear largely consist of sneakers, boots and moccassins; she hates heels because she feels like she's going to snap her ankles in them, so when it's not required she avoids them. Her hair is either kept down, thrown up in a ponytail or bun, or braided over a shoulder. She appreciates pretty dresses but they aren't her first choice of attire.
  but looks aren't everything。
YOU'RE ONLY AS PRETTY ON THE OUTSIDE AS YOU ARE ON THE INSIDE...
PERSONALITY
— ambitious, creative, intelligent, stubborn, forgetful, disorganized, mischievous

Jiyoung is incredibly driven when she sets her mind to something and will go through hell and back to achieve her goals. She can be frightfully stubborn to a fault, such as refusing to apologize even when she knows she was in the wrong. Her obstinacy can be positive or negative depending on the situation, but she is slowly learning to control it with the help of her bandmates, friends, and family. She is also remarkably disorganized, though she insists that there is a method to her madness (her room looks like a hurricane disaster scene, but she finds everything in record time). Aside from her lack of organization skills, she can be very forgetful about things she isn't stressed about (doing the laundry, movie night with friends, etc.), but when she gets too stressed her memory fails her, leaving her flustered and panicked. This trait has led to some very awkward moments during the first few broadcasts after LUCE's debut, when she forgot her lines or blurted out things that weren't part of the script. Thankfully, her groupmates were able to cover for her, but it took a while until she was able to control her stress levels to manageable amounts.

As a musician who fell in love with the trade at a very young age, Jiyoung loves experimenting with her songwriting and is known to be very creative. Though she has an image as the cool, imperturable vocalist of LUCE, she is in fact mischievous and enjoys pranking people. In her moments of impishness, fellow LUCE member Kyla teams up with her to unleash a series of pranks that have led to some excellent reflexes and sixth sense among the LUCE members. Due to her thorough education (courtesy of her mother) she is intelligent and finds comfort in reading and learning. Jiyoung can be very competitive and will usually be roused into doing things she doesn't want to do by people making a contest out of it (example: who can wash the dishes the fastest?). Despite her competitive streak, for the most part Jiyoung is easygoing and relaxed, living life at her own pace. Her ambition is to become a memorable figure in musical history, though she is tinkering with the idea of making her name known through acting as well. Her motivations come from this desire to be great, something she first felt when she realized that she wanted to be acknowledged and respected by other, just as talented people.

BACKGROUND  Jiyoung was born in San Francisco, CA and lived there for ten years until her family moved back to Korea, where they settled down in Incheon. From a young age Jiyoung (Julia in the States) expressed an interest in music and begged her parents for piano lessons, which she adored. Her elementary school music teacher realized her talent in singing and advised her parents to develop it, which led to many vocal instructors over the years. Jiyoung began writing her own songs and lyrics after a while after much trial and error and truly fell in love with music when she succeeded in composing a song. When adjusting to a foreign new country after living in CA for so long, music became her solace. When she was fifteen, her younger sister Chaeyoung and best friend Hyunjoo urged her to audition at a talent company, and after much consideration she agreed. She failed to pass and gave up, but after a year she decided to try again and, at age 16, became a trainee at SM. After four years of grueling training she debuted as the main vocalist of LUCE.

   YOU'RE NEVER ALONE...
FAMILY
Father / Baek, Shinwoo / 53 / easygoing, understanding, mild-mannered, warm-hearted
Shinwoo is a laid-back and mild-mannered man who dislikes conflicts and tends to go with the flow. He is also masterfully skilled at compromising, developed and honed through years of playing mediator to his siblings, friends, and wife and daughters. As the eldest of four children he grew up with a firmly installed sense of responsibility, especially since his parents were often busy with work, causing him to basically raise his younger brothers and sister. Another side effect was his seemingly endless sea of patience and good advice: his experience made raising his daughters a relatively simple task for him, and they often turn to him for help and guidance. Despite being calm and easygoing he has a stubbornnness that, once awoken, is nearly impossible to deter (evident in the way he successfully wooed his wife). His daughters look up to him as a source of comfort and quiet strength and he is turn loves to spend time with them.
— Mother / Ha, Go-Eun / 50 / brisk, efficient, ambitious, proud
Go-Eun comes from a long line of doctors and lawyers and does her heritage proud as a highly successful prosecuter. She believes in giving 110% effort in anything she does and demands excellence from herself and her daughters. She was wholeheartedly invested in her studies in her youth and never spent much time on feminine pasttimes, which led to a distance between her and her female peers. As an only child she never had to deal with anyone except for her parents, so she is uncomfortable and awkward around children. Raising her children was a struggle because of her tendency to keep others at length and her discomfort with sharing deep feelings, and it caused many misunderstandings and fights with her daughters. She does care deeply for them, and though she initially disapproved of Jiyoung's career in the entertainment world she eventually caved and supported her. Jiyoung sees her as a source of practical advice as well as a well of factual data, but they have many bonding moments.
—
Older Sister / Baek, Eunyoung / 29 / calm, mature, gentle, soothing, loving
Eunyoung takes after her father in temperament and also eases the tension between her younger sisters and her mother. She is greatly admired by her sisters for her maturity and is one of the first people they turn to when they are distraught or confused. She is gentle and maternal, a trait further developed by her profession as a pediatrician. She loves and is greatly knowledgeable about children, something that Jiyoung seizes as a lifejacket when she realizes that she knows next to nothing about raising a child on Hello Family. Eunyoung is a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on, but when angered she is petrifying to behold.
—
Younger Sister / Baek, Chaeyoung / 22 / blunt, artistic, rebellious, whimsical, independent
Chaeyoung and Jiyoung share a typical sibling relationship filled with petty arguments and quicksilver mood changes. Despite their many arguments and complaints about each other, they are each other's greatest supporters and closes confidantes. Whenever Jiyoung needs to let out some steam without worry she calls up or meets her younger sister, who is somewhat of a stress ball for her. She is grateful for Chaeyoung's incredibly thick skin and caustic sense of humor because it helps her unpour her frustrations and anger without worrying if she'll offend her. Chaeyoung first suggested and supported Jiyoung's career as an idol and helped her deal with their mother's initial disapproval. Chaeyoung, as a talented art major, is highly independent and ambitious and understands Jiyoung's passion for music best, which comes as a huge relief for the older sister.

FRIENDS
Best Friend / Jung, Hyunjoo / 24 / clinical, logical, organized, realistic, blunt
Hyunjoo has been Jiyoung's best friend since before birth, as their fathers were great friends. She is logical and efficient, suiting her ambition to be a pharmacist well. Ever since the two women can remember, Hyunjoo has been the voice of reason for Jiyoung and the source of organization in her life. Whenever Jiyoung is acting silly or dense she wastes no time telling her so, maybe with a slap or two upside the head. Jiyoung calls her whenever she's run into a problem she can't solve or needs a different, honest perspective from someone. Though vastly different, they work brilliantly as a team and Hyunjoo supports her career wholeheartedly. Currently, Hyunjoo lives in California and the two communicate through videochat, phone calls and other technological means.
— Friend / Nam, Sujin / 27 / charismatic, perceptive, witty, responsible, level-headed
Sujin is LUCE's leader and is very close to Jiyoung in the group. She is mature and takes her position as leader very seriously, and takes pains to get to know her bandmates better. Jiyoung respects and admires her for transforming five strangers into a tightly-knit family and finds her reliable, something she finds comforting. Sujin gives her good advice and sees her as a younger sister, but is not afraid to dish out her tough love when Jiyoung misbehaves.
—
Friend / Lee, Kyla / 24 / gregarious, humorous, flirty, cheerful, oblivious
Kyla is LUCE's visual and main dancer, and is Jiyoung's best friend in the group. She shares common ground with Jiyoung in that they both lived in the USA for a while, though Kyla was born there. The two hit it off as trainees when Kyla helped Jiyoung with her shaky dance moves, and Jiyoung in turn helped her with her somewhat lacking vocals. With her vibrant personality and love of fun, she causes endless laughter and helps Jiyoung and her bandmates through during dark times. Jiyoung views her as her sister from another mother, and Kyla does as well. The two often converse in English to annoy the others.

OTHERS
Ex-Boyfriend / Yoon, Doojoon / 25 / cheerful, athletic, mischievous, stubborn, sentimental
Jiyoung and Doojoon first met behind the scenes at Inkigayo, before LUCE's first live stage. They exchanged small talk but really hit it off sometime later, when they ran into each other at a variety show. Their relationship took off from there, with texts and calls until they decided to date. Jiyoung was completely charmed by his considerate actions and sense of humor, which made him easy to be around, and Doojoon was likewise charmed. Their relationship was revealed after about four months of dating, and though they tried to make it work they eventually agreed it would be best to break things off. They still maintain good ties to each other and Jiyoung refers to him as a close friend, but there are hints that they are still attracted to each other.
character
  husband and father。
the greatest thing a father can do is to love Their Mother
LOVE INTEREST NAME  Shim Changmin (TVXQ)
- Changmin-oppa, oppa, Professor (rarely used)
BACK-UP   Shin Soohyun (U-KISS)
- Soohyun-oppa, oppa

AGE  26

PERSONALITY  As the son of two professors, Changmin is highly intelligent and mature, another side effect of having two younger sisters to look after. In contrast to his status as maknae in TVXQ, he is the eldest child in his family and has a responsible side to him as a result. He values knowledge and tends to keep his private life to himself, as proven when many people were surprised by the revelation that he and SuperJunior's Kyuhyun were actually good friends. He also tends to be stingy with his money and is big on tidiness, and loves reading.
Changmin can be a bit quiet and awkward at first, especially around people he's not very close to yet, but once he relaxes and becomes familiar with the person in question he shows off a humorous, quirky personality. Sometimes he lacks a filter between his brain and his mouth, which have led to some tight spots over the years (he ended up getting TVXQ banned from a program once, I believe, because he ran his mouth), but he tries to think before doing anything. He is a hard, dedicated worker and gives it his all when practicing or perfecting something, but when he knows he can get away with it he does laze around a bit. But most of the time, he is a dedicated and earnest worker.

RELATIONSHIP BEFORE  As fellow SM labelmates, the two of them have seen each other around several times, but they were never particularly close. When they saw each other they were polite in their greetings but never pursued anything beyond a professional relationship. Despite not being close, they have admitted on several occasions that they admired the other's singing abilities. Whenever they appeared on the same variety shows together they treated each other as they would a distant friend.

INTERACTIONS ON CAMERA  On camera, Changmin and Jiyoung are somewhat shy and awkward around each other, but they try their best to make their supposed relationship work for Aiden's sake. Though they first start out as cautious and uncertain around each other, the two gradually learn to work around their respective quirks and to appreciate what they can do as parents. Over the course of the show the two open up and become more comfortable around each other, exchanging mild banter and discussing their day. As they grow more used to living together, they bring in snippets of their personal lives with funny stories.

INTERACTIONS OFF CAMERA  Their relationship off camera works much like the one on camera, though less careful with their word choice and actions. They decide to do their best to get along and the staff suggests going out on small dates to get to know each other, which they agree to. It starts out painfully awkward but the atmosphere eases when Jiyoung starts talking about singing, something they have in common. After that they talk a lot even off camera and off set via phones and slowly but surely become close friends. Changmin, ever observant, first picks up on her quirks and preferences before Jiyoung catches on randomly one day that she knows quite a bit about him. Their easy, comfortable chemistry delights the director of Hello Family and makes shooting relatively easy, though near the end their mutual attraction for each other causes complications on set.

RELATIONSHIP AFTER  After filming Hello Family, the two are caught in a dilemma because sometime during the show, they started falling for each other. Jiyoung rashly decides to run from it, pretend their feelings aren't there, while Changmin wants to talk about it and decide what to do. Eventually he gets fed up with her constant evasion of the talk and recruits LUCE and other friends to corner her for him, but things don't exactly work out when they lock them in a room and leave. Changmin and Jiyoung have a shouting match before things get a bit heated and they admit their feelings and express hopes of starting a relationship. (Their managers are rather horrified. Their bandmates are ecstatic.)

  family forming。
we may not have it all together, but together we have it all...

CHILD  Aiden Moon

FIRST MEETING W/ HUSBAND  The staff left various clues for Changmin to find, creating a trail of hints (simple, short instructions on cards in little envelopes; maybe he would have to chase down a person to get the next card, things like that) that eventually led him to a cozy bookshop/cafe, where Jiyoung had been told to wait. It took a while for him to arrive, but when he did she was sitting in a corner reading a book and drinking coffee with her back to the entrance. Changmin approached and startled her, and the two awkwardly exchanged hellos before they were steered to meet the last member of their family. They walked to a playground nearby, since it wasn't that far away, and did their best to get to know each other as they did.

FIRST MEETING W/ CHILD  Aiden was at the playground near his house while his mother watched him when Changmin and Jiyoung arrived. He immediately became a bit shy and shuffled behind his mother's legs, peeking out at the two soon-to-be-pseudo-parents, but after a while he edged out and politely greeted them. Aiden tried his best to hide his trepidation and bit his lip as he watched his mother walk away, but with coaxing from Jiyoung he took her hand and followed his temporary family to what would be their house for the duration of the show. Jiyoung, despite not being good around children, was cautiously optimistic about having a son and quickly warmed up to him when she realized he was mature and a darling. Changmin, likewise, didn't know how to act at first but grew fond of him, expressing some excitement at becoming a father.

CHILD INTERACTIONS W/ MOTHER  Though Jiyoung normally isn't the best with children, she quickly warmed up to Aiden and the two got along famously, especially when they realized that they had common ground in English and writing. Aiden clung to Jiyoung for the first few episodes since he was wary of Changmin, but when he overcame his slight fear of his "father" he alternated between spending time with Jiyoung and Changmin. Jiyoung clearly adores Aiden, but on the rare occasion that he misbehaves or cries she doesn't really know what to do. Over time she learns the right way of parenting through various parenthood websites and books, as well as tips from her sister.

CHILD INTERACTIONS W/ FATHER  Aiden was initially wary of approaching Changmin without having Jiyoung to mediate for them, but after realizing that they had a common interest in and love for learning and reading, the two quickly bonded. Changmin was a bit hesitant around him, as he wasn't sure how to be a father, but did his best, which paid off when the two bonded later on. Changmin, as a fan of sports, also does his best to teach Aiden various different sports, such as soccer and baseball. Eventually he overcame his unsureness about wording his thoughts/expressing his true feelings and became very open and caring to Aiden, albeit less expressive than Jiyoung.

SCENE REQUESTS
─ A scene where the "mothers" are all taken out of the house for a day or two and the "Fathers" learn how to deal with raising a child alone, please! It could be at the stage where Changmin and Aiden are still leery of approaching each other, so the staff has Jiyoung go somewhere fun with the other mothers to let the two bond on their own. Jiyoung comes back late at night to see Changmin and Aiden curled up around each other on the sofa, fast asleep, with various books scattered around them.

─ A scene where Aiden has a hard time falling asleep so Jiyoung sings him a lullaby
─ A scene where Aiden requests a younger sister to protect and the two pseudo-parents flail, but manage to convince Aiden to save that question for his real parents. (The staff dies laughing.)
─ A scene where Jiyoung and Changmin have an argument about her messiness (he's pretty bent on tidiness) and they upset Aiden, who doesn't quite understand why they're fighting. They quickly compromise.
─ A scene where, after Changmin and Jiyoung admit their feelings and want to start dating, they find out that the SM idols and trainees had been placing bets on them getting together.
─ A scene where Hyunjoo flies to Korea to surprise Jiyoung with a visit
─ A scene where Changmin adopts a kitten and gifts Jiyoung with it; she and Aiden are equally delighted
─ A scene where ex-boyfriend Doojoon and current (fake) husband meet and lead to some interesting talks
─ A scene where Doojoon expresses a desire to rekindle their relationship and Jiyoung rejects him, with difficulty (she's confused about her feelings for Changmin but knows she doesn't see Doojoon in that way as much as she used to)

FAMOUS LAST WORDS I wasn't sure if the songs had to be in the order they were released in real life, so I took some liberties. Hope it doesn't matter terribly? Looking forward to this!
