jangmin is known to be extremely charismatic on stage--a presence that just commands attention. spending a lot of time rehearsing his persona, it comes out of him as natural as possible. jangmin is also capable of doing a 180 degree where he doesn't stand out much and is able to blend in with the background. to be a magician who is good at performing -- escape acts especially -- he needed to be able to do both. and boy WAs he good at both. well, he used to.
after an accident during A dress rehearsals, he has become less confident in himself--more timid. he can't bring himself to be the charismatic magician they all know of right after experiencing a near death situation. that is also why he requested any tours he had to be put on hold. he was a person who often took risks but his one mistake pulled him back to reality. he could have died BACK then. fROM now ON, A GREAT FACTOR IN HIS DECISION: anything that could put himself or anyone else at risk is not an option.

as a result of this timid disposition, he gets the opportunity to observe moreso than when he is the center of attention. he sees the small details that people don't often notice -- a small scar, a tic, if someone is left-handed or not, if they're holding back a reaction. anyone can do it but when jangmin takes note, he rarely forgets. however, this trait of his is a double-edged sword. he's the person you expect the least to piece together those small details to see the big picture. if he trusts someone enough, this could be quite useful for them.
among the 'players', he is known for being gentle and approachable as jangmin often helps out during puzzles, and he always CHECKs UP ON SOMEONE WHEN HE NOTICES THAT THEY'RE troubled. he asks if he can help them in any way, if they need company. it can also be noted that he is supportive about solutions that prioritizes having no casualties. aside from his pacifist-esque actions toward others, jangmin is just a pleasant person to be around ... considering they're trapped and are forced to kill each other -- even if not in the literal sense.

his words are soothing, never sharp, and never said in order to hurt anyone. it's difficult for jangmin to be angered because it is in his principles to understand others first. that's what his mother had always taught him. he's never had problems being a little detached from his emotions. OKAY, MAYBE HE IMAGINES PUNCHING THEM ENDLESSLY OR BURNING THEIR BODY IN AN INCINERATOR, however he still has his own ideals and principles and it just makes him boil inside when mindless killing is happening OR when his friends are being insulted. HE'S MORE OF A PASSIVE-AGRESSIVE TYPE OF PERSON.
despite his 'cool head', his fellow companions see him as a person who freely expresses his emotions -- they also say he's emotional. in a way, that is true. they see how heartily he laughs at a joke, and how easily HE PANICS when he sees a centipede. they see how he cries in relief WHEN NO ONE DIES, and how he SCREAMs HIS HEART OUT WHEN ONE OF THEM DOES--THEY REALIZE THAT HE ISn't as emotional as they thought he was. he's JUST A KID.

JANGMIN is not A cynical PERSON. despite being INITIALLY wary of the others in this strange environment, he will still warm up to theM unless they give him a reason not to. jangmin is easy to befriend, and it is just as easy to get his trust. IT'S QUITE DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO LIE TO OTHERS BECAUSE OF THIS. ONCE HE TRUSTS SOMEONE, he will never do anything to betray that person's trust. he will never give away any secret or clue he is told even if it makes him look hella shady. THIS however LEAVES HIM QUITE VULNERABLE TO MANIPULATIVE PEOPLE.

as a sickly kid, jang minjun was put up for adoption when he was 7 years old. he was sent off to an orphanage where he often stayed by himself. friendship was started when one of the other orphans, changmin (stray kids jisung), accidentally hit minjun on the eye with a stray playing card. as an apology, changmin showed him some card tricks he knew. they became good friends despite minjun's initial reluctance to befriend people.
minjun liked learning card tricks from changmin because it was interesting and it made him happy. he performed those card tricks in the orphanage with changmin and the reactions of his fellow orphans sparked an idea in him. he wanted to do something uplifting like that as a profession in the future.
a world-reknowned magician, seo minseo, was looking for a successor--a promising orphan to raise as her own. changmin persuaded jangmin to come with him and join the audition. the preliminaries was easy, however changmin failed to be picked in the next round. changmin was both sad but he was still happy for jangmin.
after picking 18 candidates all over south korea, seo minseo made them compete in a series of tests that gauged their ability, charisma, determination, and overall potential. jangmin wAs VerY luckY because in the end, he was the one adopted by seo minseo. he and changmin kept in contact after the adoption.
jangmin is grateful for his new mother and the relationship they have could only be described as loving, but honestly she was strict. it would have been worse if it weren't jangmin. he was a kid who was determined and had the initiative to learn. he was also easy to warm up to. seo minseo was not disappointed IN HEr dECISion.

being a kid trapped in a killing game it's difficult for jangmin to think about love and stuff like that but he's welcome about gaining new friends ... friends that might turn into something more, or something one-sided and unrequited.
