appearance
Hwang Jiho never grew up from being a 160 cm in height and she weighed 49 kg. She doesn't like being underweight but in order to keep up with idol image of being 'thin', she worked out before auditioning for Produce 99 to get her muscles toned and looked slim. Compared to the fair complexions of the trainees, Jiho's a bit more in the side of light tan (Just like RV's Seulgi). Her nicely shape black eyes could house different kind of expressions, be it piercing or bright, but usually, she looks lazyish or sleepy all the time. Her shoulder-length black hair were always let down or in ponytail when she they have to practice that she always keep neat.

HISTORY

"You're such a great singer!" "Your voice is so beautiful." "Jiho is young but she already have a great potential."

They said she was born to be a main vocalist. They said she is extremely good in singing. They said her voice is so beautiful.

But would they be able say that again once it is all gone?

No.

Just a typical in one of the practice rooms of JYP building, Hwang Jiho found herself soaked in sweat, musical sheets crumpled at the bottom of her feet and her phone blaring out a loud pop music, grasped tightly in her palm. It is just a typical voice practice that she usually did, singing and singing all night long until she felt a tingling pain in and her voice croaking. Dropping her phone in the ground, she knelt down as both of her trembling hands held . Looking at the terrified figure infront of the mirror, she shakily opened her lips and tried to sing.

Aside from the music from her phone, nothing came out.

Not even her voice.

The doctor said, her vocal cords were temporarily paralyzed, he said she had been improperly trained and because of strenuous strain from all of years of singing, she lost her voice. No sound would came out and even speaking would hurt. The doctor said, "You need to rest your voice or else you might not able to sing anymore." After that incident, she was deeply afraid, afraid that she might not able to sing anymore and afraid that the people who look up on her with smiles will turned into judgmental sneers. After a few months from leaving JYP officially, she auditioned to Pledis to join her childhood bestfriend, wherein the company only allowed her to train her dancing because of her vocal condition. It was very traumatic for her and also frustrating, from not able to sing. In order to maintain and prove to the management that she could be still a trainee despite of her inability to sing at that time, Jiho poured out all of her pent up emotions in dancing, spending most of her time sharpening her moves and perfecting the choreography, just to forget. Of course her efforts were not in vain, her fellow trainees and dance instructor would sing praises about how her dancing improved in just a short span of training. However, in that shortlived happiness will vanished once again she found herself alone in the practice room again, with no courage to sing.

When the doctor said that her vocal cords were all good, she thought it was the best news in her life. Never she have thought that the following words came after would ruined her hopes of dreaming her voice back again.

"Its all good but no singing high just like before, start over and forget everything or else you might permanently damaged your voice forever."

It was like a cold bucket of water was harshly poured on her, trying to put out all of her hopes within. How could she start over? Might as well dump her dreams of becoming an idol and start anew again. With the doctors recommendation, she started with voice therapy in order to condition her vocals and obtain a proper training in singing. She felt foreign and weird, from preparations to basics, she had already done it in the past, just as she realized, starting over means she have to start in the bottom again while her fellow trainees were all on the way towards their debut, and she was left out in the side. Just seeing them start their debut preparations, it was painful to the point she could not bear it. In the end, Jiho ended her trainee contract and didn't sign with any companies ever again.

Jiho started anew. As she finished her high school, she entered a university as a dance major. She even joined a dance crew and started being a part-time instructor in different dance studios in seoul. She's still attending her voice therapy sessions, it took years to healthily build her voice again, but it is nothing the same from her old voice, from her bright and high voice as a soprano, it transformed into more deep and richer tone of a mezzo-soprano, she'd got a comfortable vocal range and is a stable singer. However, she would not budge when her friends or her family will ask her to sing just to show how much she recovered, as much as possible she would refuse to sing to the point that the others thought that she hated singing. No, Jiho did not hate singing, she wanted to but she was afraid, she was afraid that they may judge her that her voice had changed, afraid that she might strain herself and lose her voice again. Even those improvements from her voice therapy were not enough to save her weakening faith on her self. She thought her dream of becoming an idol was such a far-away place for her to reach.

Til' one day someone have come and visited her.

"My friends said that Produce is the worst, do you think I will agree in your proposition?" Jiho sounded out with a forced laugh, looking at her helpless aunt. She just recently worked as a mnet staff and is especially working for the production of produce.

"I'm only trying but it looks like your passion for being an idol have already died." She continued, "Well then, sort yourself out, the season two just ended recently, you still have a few months, contact me if you made your decision." She trailed off, leaving the practice room of the studio. It was a long silence before Jiho broke it with a bitter laugh.

"Who said that my passion had already gone, it is just I don't trust myself in becoming an idol."

There is no wrong in trying right?

PERSONALITY

POSITIVE:  GOOD-TEMPERED, LIGHTHEARTED, THOUGHTFUL, SUPPORTIVE

Good-tempered. Jiho's temperament is usually calm and cheerful. She rarely get upset and it takes a lot to make her angry. She is a calm person who is considered almost fearless by some. She isn't easily to irritate and it is difficult for others to provoke her or make her feel negative. Probably she'll just laugh cheerfully when there are others openly called her out for something. Her patience extends to a thousand miles but of course it still have its limits.

Lighthearted. Jiho lead a leisurely and relaxed life. She would prefer to sit back and watch the others play around than indulge in high energy activities. She doesn't like being pessimist, rather than indulging herself in too much worry, she treat her problems in a new light without draining herself due to stress. If she ever get upset though, it will only last for a short time like in the next day, she already have brushed off it off and they just have to apologize properly towards her, this girl doesn't really care about grudges.

Considerate. Jiho knows and experienced the hardships of being a trainee, she could understand when some contestants will just broke down in tears, she could not blame them at all. Compassion and empathy run deep within her and she can be one of the most thoughtful and caring person that people will ever meet. She is able to relate to people in a meaningful way thanks to her thoughtfulness to put herself in another person’s shoes and really understand where they are coming from.

Supportive. Jiho is very supportive and likes to help others by any means. Helping them when they are having difficult time in learning the choreography or just hyping them up when they do something. She also uses her knowledge that she learned from her voice therapy, from breathing techniques, warm-ups and advices to help her teammates since she is afraid that something might also happen to their voice too. She is that type person who cheers for her team even though they are going to lose. Jiho doesn't want them to feel neglected and think that they are not enough, she wanted to give her support to the people around her so they can slowly achieve their dreams, improve theirselves and they will be able to support others too.

neutral :  frank, whimsical, sluggish

Frank. If were to start describing Jiho, lets start with the words unique, being slightly weird and combining it with honesty. Even from her trainee days, Jiho sometimes shocked people with her blunt opinions and sense of humor. She can be super direct and honest, but in a totally soft spoken way that people can't help but to think if they should be feel offended or what. Although some people might misunderstand her forthright words as being rude and insensitive, Jiho has just always been the kind of person to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Whimsical. Jiho is not Jiho when she is not being odd. Though they don't know the reason why she is being off-beat, they don't try to stop her. She always had these peculiar thoughts that she will probably randomly blurt it out. The moments that this trait of hers will be very obvious is when it comes to practicing dances. Her students from her part-time job have already pointed out her unique way of teaching her students, so her being weird will also come out in the show. Her team lacks stage presence? expect something along the lines of "If we have great facial expressions then we have also have great stage presence, you know just feel the music and feel y." Then she proceeds to do a tutorial of how their facial expression should be, as much as how amusing it is, they could not blame that Jiho is right and her facial expressions are on point. Or in just normal situations, she will say something weird or far from the conversation's topics.

Sluggish. Probably the most slowest contestant, aside from performing, practicing and cleaning herself, she's really lazy in doing other things. You have to exercise? Jiho will probably just sit or lay down while watching her team mates. Even sitting properly is not on her mind, especially when they have to sit on the floor, she will take no time to lean on the fellow trainee beside her. Bet that she could fell asleep sitting on the chair while the judges took a break from evaluating the contestants. Not only from physical but even mentally, she is too tepid to react, she will sport this kind of bored and sleepy face while watching the contestants or watching the stage performances.

negative:  insecure, self-critical, overgenerous, stubborn

Inscure. If there is one thing you could dampen Jiho's mood, then it is singing. Yes, she is very confident in her dancing but when it comes to her voice, she lacked assurance. That's why when she have to perform her audition, it took her a lot of time and practice because she could not be satisfied with her singing and she feared that she will fail to sing properly. Even with her team mates, she preferred to practice alone and perfect her singing because she is very apprehensive of the crowd watching her sing. She needed to be coaxed a lot just to lessen her nervousness when it comes to her vocals.

Self-critical. Because of her insecurity, she is very self-critical of herself, especially when it comes to singing. She will say a lot of deprecating words everything about her voice and singing. Her view of her vocal talent was really distorted in a way that every little and small mistakes are taken seriously by her. She sing way out of tune? She will probably say she's the worst. She cannot hit a high note? expect her to apologize many times and saying that she could not do this anymore. As irritating it is, that's Jiho is. This is why she refuse to take a lot of singing lines just to avoid singing as much as possible.

Overgenerous. Overgenerous? Damn don't even let her be the leader or else she will give herself lines that could only last four seconds. She is very much pumped up at making her team members shine on their own that she forgot herself in the process.. or may intentionally did that so she could avoid singing. Her team mates voted her for the center? Nope, she will automatically refuse right away and will probably list out reasons why she shouldn't be the center, then after that she will suggest to give it out to others to 'give the chance to others.' Someone wanted more lines? Jiho is ready to give all of hers if its that possible. This girl will probably much be the back up dancer of the team if she would keep refusing to sing.

Stubborn. As you can see, she is really strong headed when it comes to singing. If there is one thing she absolutely hate is when someone is forcing her to sing completely different from her style. Jiho have her own way of vocal techniques and she really disliked it when others try to boss her out when it comes to that kind of thing. She will also loath it when she will be force to hit a high note (rip vocal instructors), she could not care anymore about what they think about her, she will say what she want and if she is uncomfortable, then she won't do it. All of this stubborness stemmed out from her trauma of losing her voice in the past and yhe spent years of recovering her voice that is why she won't take a bull when she knew what is the best for herself. When it comes to protecting her voice, she doesn't care anymore, be evil editing or producer ahn junyoung.

trainee life

At a young age of 11 years old she was casted by JYP Entertainment for her voice. Since she was a child back then she was extremely passionate when it comes to training, she adapted well with enviroment of the company and comfortably trained along well with other trainees. She received more special trainings for vocals but when the incident happen wherein she lost her voice when she was 13 years old. When she informed her instructors, her vocal condition was discussed with the management wherein they decided to temporarily halt her training and give her a few months of rest. It was a sensible decision since Jiho could focus awhile on her recovery, but it was different for the latter. Temporary break from the training meant that the other trainees would be alerted on her condition, she feared the judgement that will befall on her if she ever return from her rest. In the end, she ended her contract with JYP and left the company quietly, cutting off her contact with the trainee she knew in JYP, without disclosing the real reason why. After resting for a few months, she gained a little hope when she manage to talk, meaning that her voice is recovering on its own. However, her young passionate self made a big deal of this and she became more adamant on the belief that she will recover shortly and decided to continue her training but in an another company, wherein nobody knew what she is like before except for her childhood friend. She joined Pledis Entertainment in 2011 in August, however, Pledis was reluctant to accept her as a trainee because of her vocal condition but in the end, she was accepted due to her potential in dancing. She was prohibited to do vocal trainings along with other trainees. Since she cannot practice her singing, she spent most of her time training along with other trainees in dancing and sometimes alone. When some of her friends and her bestfriend debuted in 2012 and her voice is still unstable, she started to feel the slump. She have close friendships with her fellow trainees and they did everything to cheer her up since her recovery progress of her vocal chords was really slow. However as the months goes by, seeing her some of her friends debuted again, now in a girl group and some of them being included in a line up of a future boy group, she felt like her inability to sing was a thorn in her heart. By the time it was the start of 2015, her voice still haven't recovered completely and witnessing her friends slowly started their preparation for their debut was the last straw. Jiho decided to left Pledis Entertainment and stopped being a trainee but still maintained her contact with some of her friends.

After resting for 2 years and a half month. She started training independently to start her preparation of joining the audition of the next season of the survival show, Produce 99. It was nerve-wracking for her, training independently and joining the show without a company to support her but this will be her last, if she did not managed to go through this then she'll stop.
