Personality. 

"What a good child!"

Despite the strong style and appearance, she's really a soft marshmallow inside. A lot of people often got a shock of their life when they realized how different their first impression of Yuhwa from her real personality. Who could not blame them? With her face, Yuhwa looks like a foxy villain that came out straight from the dramas. It is just too much to take when someone with a face of a villain acts so nicely. Yuhwa is raised to be an a genuine person, she's sincere in expressing her feelings and honest in speaking her thoughts, she never have intention to deceive or impressing people by being pretentious. Just even speaking a small or white lie makes her guilty and anxious. She would rather become guilty of something she did wrong instead of becoming guilty because she lied. Aside from not speaking to strangers when she was a kid, Yuhwa is very trusting, she had a general thought that all kinds of people have good in them, no matter how snarky, nasty or aloof they act. She's the perfect figure who strongly believes in "There is still faith in humanity." Yuhwa doesn't have an ounce of suspiciousness when someone approach her for help or giving her something. In a crowded street, you'll probably see Yuhwa staring worriedly at the pitiful stray kitten, she's easily moved by situations that needs sympathy and she can't help but show kindness towards it. She's actually selfless too, if the lonely stray kitten is about to run over by some car or get stomped by a crowd of people, she'll throw away all of her bearings and rush to the dangerous situation with no regards to her own safety, just to save that tiny kitten from harm. She might get a mouthful of words saying that she's stupid, dumb or someone who lost her common sense for showing great concern to others but little or no concern for herself. It may hurt her but the great thing that the kitten is fine right? that she's worried for other's right? That poor kitten needs help, she'll definitely exert effort in helping without expecting in return. She naturally love to help people who are in need, and is very considerate towards her surroundings. Heck, she would not even hesistate in sharing her umbrella with a complete stranger in a pouring rain. 

"Reina's a little bit charming.. isn't it?"

They may got the impression that Yuhwa doesn't really talk much because she's a snob or because she's an arrogant little villain. True, but they got her personality wrong, this girl doesn't really have words to spout and prefers to stay quiet with no reason. Instead of cold and harsh sounding sentences, what will they really hear is soft-spoken words, surprise bros! Don't judge the book by it's cover. With the way she dress herself up and struts with high heels, others may thought Yuhwa as someone who grew up in a rich household, an epitome of an elegant lady.. until they see her clumsily tripping on her feet, breaking things that she holds, dropping the piece of meat from her chopsticks or something flew up just because she moved. Observant eyes might notice some Yuhwa's quirk, as she tends to be quiet on the side, she can't help but isolate herself in her own world, daydreaming some ideas that she randomly thought, which obviously shows when she did not really notice about what is happening around her. When she finally snaps out from her train of dreamy thoughts, expect the most random things that may come out from . For her affectionate side, it's either they hate it or love it. Kang Yuhwa lived in a culture where being touchy isn't called invasion of privacy. Expect to see Yuhwa make more physical contact during conversations, so don’t be alarmed if she touches someone on the shoulder or stands very close while having a chat. Her concept of personal space is not as strong as it is from others. 

"This is an indepedent strong women household, be more brave!" 

If they think her strong apperance also aligns with her personality then WRONG. Yuhwa is far from that so-called mean impression of theirs. If choosing between performing in a crowd vs. socializing in a crowd, then she prefer the former. It's not that she's scared and shy of talking to a lot of people, it is just she's intimidated by the immense amount of attention she's getting.. and the amount of brain effort she needs to think of words just to pass by those thing called socializing. That's because she's demure, not attracting or demanding a lot of attention, she's not showy or flashy. She's fine for the others to do the talking, therefore she actively avoid, drawing too much attention when talking. Since she get overwhelmed by these attention called praises and compliments then get bashful because of it. As they get to know Yuhwa, they may not think it first that she's innocent or just plain easy to trick, but when their understanding of her becomes deeper, they come to the realization that this girl is childlike, views the world with dewy-eyes. In simpler words, that's being called naive and gullible. Others may show great concern to her simple-minded due to lack of experience yet there are also people who may get irritated by how she's easily fooled or cheated by someone who's obviously trying to trick her (Protect this little bean). Another thing that can also cause headaches is Yuhwa being too passive, yes she's nice to a fault, that you can't help but talk some sense to her. She tend to allow things to happen or just accepts what other people do or decide without trying to speak anything, she doesn't want to incite a simple disagreement or fight with other people. She will brush off any criticisms or insults thrown towards her and was not even willing to stand up for herself and just remain passive. Yuhwa dislike confrontations so much that is willing to compromise or to deny her own needs in order to get along with others. That's not the end of it, she can be a bit dense too, lacking in the sensitivity area, maybe due to being naive of world affairs? or just really born with a dense thinking. Yuhwa won't even notice the tense atmosphere if there are two people silently fighting, she won't even have an idea if someone was sneakily insulting her or flirting with her in the broad daylight. There's gotta be one (patient) person to remind her nicely what's happening around her, unless the situation is really obvious.. then there may be hope that it somehow got in that thick brain of hers.

Background.

Kang Yuhwa was 2-years old when both of her parents died in an unfortunate event (not really being dramatic, but just want to try something else). Her parents are philanthropists, generously donating and helping for the good of humanity, they participate in many charity events and even promote programs for the good of people. They were on the plane on board for Africa, to help the indigenous people, however they didn't make it due to the extreme turbulence that made their plane crashed to the deep ocean. 

The custody of taking care 2-years old Kang Yuhwa fell to the hands of his maternal uncle, Kang Junyoung, it wasn't clear why the grandparents of both side didn't succeed in custody but Junyoung was adamant in taking the only child of her younger sister under his care, instead of giving her to the grandparents. Kang Junyoung was a chef, renowned for his wide knowledge of recipes from other parts of the world, and the lucky country that managed to caught his heart is Spain, well that's also because he fell in love and married a spanish woman named Leticia Joaquin. At that time, they already have three daughters, plus with Yuhwa brought by his uncle, there are already five women in the household (Poor junyoung).

Yuhwa was given a spanish name by Leticia, Reina, a queen, she wants Yuhwa grew up as strong as the queen. Well, Leticia has odd obsession with relating her daughters name to royalty. Her tiger 'aunt' Leticia strictly instilled the principle of growing up as a strong, independent, brave person under her care, which unfortunately didn't adapted by Yuhwa at all. All of them grew up to be fine lady though, a fine and valiant lady who's ready to kick some if someone mess up with them.. with the exception of Yuhwa. Her timid personality was quiet a concern for her aunt and cousins. As for Yuhwa, she can't help but feel awkward and conflicted with her aunt's values. Even though she doesn't have any memory of her parents, she came to heard a lot from her uncle of how kind they are, helping people for a cause, exerting a lot of effort just to see people smile. They might not be at her side anymore, but she was inspired by her parent's kind heart. 

Okay to the relevant point, music and entertainment was an important aspect of Spanish culture, so it's no doubt that it was also part of the Joaquin-Kang household. Her aunt Leticia's life was dedicated in one of the famous performance theater in Barcelona ㅡ musical, dancing, play acting is the life of the theater. Yuhwa and her cousins HAD to attend the performance classes lead by Leticia, no matter how reluctant they are (or else they get eaten by the tiger mom). All of Leticia's (overbearing) hardwork were not in vain, as it bore fruits of her persistent teachings to her daughters and Yuhwa. They grew up knowing how to dance some of spanish traditional dances, even it was very painful for Yuhwa's feet, she still like it. But her favorite is performing a musical, she came to love it very much, acting a play, with a little bit of dancing and the most important is singing her heart out. The whole Joaquin-Kang household is very supportive and proud of her, especially her Aunt Leticia, who encourages her most of the time (and her three daughtes heaved a sigh of relief as they were not being hauled by their mom to dance on stage anymore). 

Yuhwa wasn't completely ignorant of the KPOP scene. There had been KPOP concerts that happened in Barcelona and her cousins, including her Aunt Leticia were very enthusiastic in attending all of it, "It was good music with handsome people like your uncle!" says by her Aunt, fangirling over the kpop idols while her Uncle was helpless as he was forced to accompany the women of his household. It was in 2014, when her Uncle Junyoung brought his eldest daughter, Sofia and Yuhwa to Seoul. It was supposed to be Sofia only as she was very stubborn in taking up her studies in South Korea, much to the dismay of her mother Leticia. That sparks Yuhwa curiousity of what her motherland looked like, the country where she was born and where her parents met. When Yuhwa brought up the matter of also coming with Sofia in Seoul, this made Leticia very angry "What good girls that I've raised!". Yuhwa was about to go back on her words when her Uncle Junyoung supported her suggestion and was willing to bring her back to Seoul. For him, it's the right thing to brought back Yuhwa where she originally belong. Surprisingly, her cousin Sofia easily adapted to the korean culture while Yuhwa was lost about what to do most of the time. All of them learned korean when they are in Spain, but it's the first time that Yuhwa had to conversed in full korean, it was somehow difficult for her while her cousin was almost like native-like when speaking.

After a year of living under the guidance of her Uncle Junyoung, the 22-year old Sofia had to take care of 18-year old Yuhwa alone, while Junyoung had gone back in Spain. Yuhwa almost have gone with him if not for her eldest cousin pleading to her and her Uncle convincing her to stay. At that year also happened something interesting, her cousin Sofia invited her to the university where she was studying, saying that there will be kpop artists performing at the festival. Of course, Yuhwa attended with her cousin, but what they didn't expect was a talent scout of an entertainment company approached them to invite them for an audition at their company. Sofia was extremely flattered with the invitation, but she wasn't fond of the idea being an idol. Yuhwa was about to reject too since she wasn't sure of her talent but Sofia was persistent in making her try.

Atlast, Yuhwa discovered on the day of her audition that it was a Cube representative who invited her for an invitation. She was filled up with excitement! That's the entertainment company of her favorite group, 4MINUTE, how could she pass the opportunity to see them? So Yuhwa was determined in impressing the panelists ㅡ which she perfectly succeed.

HOBBIES
♢ Sunbathing under the morning rays. Very relaxing.

HABITS
♢ Whenever she was shy and nervous, her right hand would go up to her neck and touch it, or pull her right earlobe softly.
♢ Daydreaming, you may found her suddenly stop at the middle of the pathway or bump into someone.
♢ She is used to hold into someone when walking, grab to their arm, or pull at their sleeve or shirt. 
♢ Yuhwa is really touchy, please don't be mad when suddenly touches someones arm, hugs them or just cling to them. Don't worry, she will only do it if she was friends with them.
♢ She will hug anything close to her while sleeping, pillows, stuffs or even a person.
♢ If she saw a cat, she would definitely give it a pat or hug it.

FEARS
♢ Don't ever make her watch horror or gore movies, or anything that is related to horror, horror games or even just the sound and audio of sa horror movie. She'll definitely have horrible nightmares at night. 

SONE TIDBITS...
♢ Trains at Cube Entertainment for 2 years.
♢ Was rumored to be added in the CLC line-up in 2016, but it wasn't confirmed and stayed as a rumor.
♢ Kind of rich, but she had no idea, so she's very generous and not stingy.
♢ Still had the spanish culture ingrained in her deeply. You know what she drinks when eating? It's either red or white wine. She likes to drink it at most random times.
♢ Yes, she drinks, has a high tolerance for drinking. 
♢ Tends to skip on breakfasts, since it wasn't really important while she was in Spain. The most important meal of the day is lunch. It has to be sumptous.
♢ Don't expect to be satisfied with a meager meal for lunch, she'll definitely cook a full course for it. (Yeah they had lunch full course).
♢ If they still haven't figure it out, yes she's a great cook. Yum. 
♢ Yuhwa still had her siesta time, after taking her lunch, she had to take a nap! 
♢Second reminder, don't be shocked when she's eating her dinner almost at midnight, it's spanish thing.
♢ What does she do when greeting her close ones? Double kiss on the cheeks for the girls and a big hug for the boys.

♢ Her hands is the first part of her body to get cold and really sensitive, so she kept rubbing her hands when's cold. 
♢ Yuhwa said that her nervousness disappears when she sings, so whenever she's nervous, she'll sing quietly to soothe her nerves. (Idk but this is  effective for me)
♢ She gets too excited like a child when she saw cats or flowers, and hell she doesn't care what would others say about her when she is in that MOOD. 
♢ Her Aunt Leticia taught her a lot of Latin dances and years of dancing to Flamenco made her body very fluid and flexible. She can do splits.

This is her tiger aunt, who speaks no gentle words but only the truth. She's very supportive of Yuhwa and cares for her like she was also her daughter too. She had always wanted for Yuhwa to be more brave and courageous but it is seems difficult when the latter strongly latches herself to the thought of her gentle and kind parents. Among the family, she's the one who's very adamant in supporting Yuhwa in becoming in Idol. Leticia wanted Yuhwa to develop herself and get out of her comfort zone, unfortunately not in a gentle way but a harsh way, since she believes its the effective way of shaping a person's experience. For their interactions, her aunt leticia flies to Seoul from time to time just to visit Yuhwa.
 

Uncle / Junyoung Kang / 49 / Chef / Sensible, Rational, Tepid / 

Junyoung always felt guilty and sad whenever he remembered how Yuhwa lost her parents. He doesn't want her to grow up such lonely and brooding kid that he feared so he tried to gave her the normal life of having a family even thought without her parents. His greatest concern is also Yuhwa's simple mindedness, he felt it was his fault for always telling her how generous and nice her parents that they also wanted Yuhwa to be also a charitable person, maybe that's the reason why Yuhwa was so instilled in becoming kind just like her parents. 
 

Eldest Cousin / Sofia Joaquin-Kang / 25 / University Student / Gregarious, Naggy, Supportive / 

For Yuhwa, Sofia is cousin-slash-sister-slash-bestfriend, everything that she could wish for. Sofia was like a stage mom, but the sister one and she meant good for Yuhwa instead of being overly meddling with her life. Whenever Yuhwa had doubts, Sofia was already ready to deflect all of it and do anything to make her cousin realized her love for singing. However, it is somehow difficult for Sofia to see Yuhwa being so soft all the time, is that really difficult to be strong-willed?
 

Second & Youngest cousins / Elena Joaquin-Kang, Cristina Joaquin-Kang / 23 & 24 / University Students / Confident, Bold, Overprotective/ 

These two were always the troublemaker ones in the family, they always wanted Yuhwa to have fun, but their kind of fun wasn't really for Yuhwa's Personality, as they like to go to blind dates. They weren't helpful at all for saying such words of support because it always end up in 'Tell me if you date an idol!' 'Find me an idol to date too!'. But Yuhwa knew that aside from her Aunt Leticia, these two are most protective of her in the family, always shielding her from the guys and kicking them up if they tried something funny

Without her counsins around, Luna is the sister figure for Yuhwa. She admired how sociable she is and can easily lead people with her rational mind. It's almost like Yuhwa wanted to depend on her whenever she encountered problems.

Yuhwa can find grounds with this japanese member, especially in loving peace. Yuhwa dislikes and avoids conflict, so she felt grateful having a member who was also peace-loving. She can't help but feel gravitated towards her, maybe because both of them are both helpful and selfess?

Trainee Life.

When Yuhwa was accepted to Cube, she thought that the training was twice harder on what she experienced with her Aunt Leticia. Atleast, when training with her Aunt, she got to rest but in training to become an idol, there's a small amount of rest, and the trainees were giving her looks, just standing by instead of talking to her! What made it harder is when korean isn't her native language. The first few months of training brought a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but thinking of her supportive cousins and her proud aunt was the motivation that made her still go on and continue the training despite how she wanted to give up. As months goes by, a few trainees started to talk to her, that 'achievement' made her really happy (poor thing). She had no idea that it was her face and appearance that clears away those trainees who wanted to approach her. For the good part, she was known as the trainee who was bewitchingly good, and thanks to Aunt Leticia for practicing her face expression when dancing.

So when Yuhwa heard a gossip that she was going to be added in the line-up of CLC, even though she's easy to trick, she felt it was impossible for her to jump that high given that her duration of trainee years can be counted in her ten fingers. Yuhwa was very sad when 4Minute suddenly disbanded in June 2016, it was like half of her motivation was gone because of that news. Nevertheless, she still diligently trained, knowing that her Idol HyunA was still in the company and she felt like it was a waste since she wasn't still a trainee for a year. But after 'suffering' for two years, Yuhwa made up her mind that she wasn't really to be an idol, despite of her family asking her a million times, she still left cube on October 2017.

How did she got to International Idol survival show? Thanks to her cousin, Sofia who was excited at the fact of having a survival show who wants idol to reach globally, and correlating it to Yuhwa who had know foreign language and culture of Spain, she broke the news to the reluctant Yuhwa, but somehow got convinced by her whole family, especially her Aunt Leticia, to join the survival show. It was just a few months away, and Yuhwa joined a lot of vocal and dancing classes to ready herself.. somehow.
